Rating: Summary: Re:Gen X Review: The Matrix, a film masterpiece for the 21st century. There are many reasons to own, watch, or rent the Matrix, and I will give you a few of the most important. 1) The special effects & sound are like no other movie to date. This movie blew me away. I had the privelege of viewing this movie on a very large screen with digital sound in Washington, D.C. The small screen does not really do this movie justice, but it can suffice if need be. The sound is so crisp, and when the scenes go in slow-motion, it is like nothing you have ever seen before. 2) Keanu is actually tolerable. Reeves does a good job of being the main character, Neo, and it seems like the role was written for him. He shines with the interplay between him and Larry Fishburn, and with the Special Agents who are trying to destroy him. 3) The themes! Is this our future? Will computers rule the world? Have we lost our soul? What is real? Will you swallow a blue or a red pill? All issues you will be drawn into and have to digest as your view the Matrix. Those are just a few, but all important reasons to see this generations new anthem of malaise and questioning. The matrix is a movie, you just have to see.

Rating: Summary: Slow motion masking a bad film Review: Contary to what has been written about this film, I don't see anything ground breaking, but only cliche'. The reluctant messiah story is as old as Buddha, Jesus, and Burt Reynolds in the Longest Yard. Even worst, it takes forever to more this tired story along. I felt insulted as a viewer with average smarts by the "Alice in Wonderland" reference. For all the CGI hype, it is just that. Slow motion bullets with trails have been done years before in "Sniper." I am surprised that the few scenes of over the top gun play where the good guys never get hit still plays with the young who seem to love this movie. There is nothing visionary about taking bad Bruce Lee knock-off fight scenes and put them to slow motion. Production value and cinematography is a disappointment too. Under exposure, and bluing doesn't create a mood, but does creates good night light of two plus hours of sleep.
Rating: Summary: Redefines sci-fi goodness Review: What can I say about such an overhyped movie that hasn't already been said? I wasn't too interested until my friend asked me to watch it with her, and I was pleasantly surprised. With an inventively original plot (for American cinema) that isn't afraid to make the viewer think, The Matrix injects some depth into a genre I had all but given up on long ago. Feel-good fluffy garbage like Star Wars (uh oh, here comes my funeral pyre for that one) pales in comparison to a franchise with actual potential. The paranoiac questions about the fine line between reality and illusion integrate well into the cyberpunk-noir background, and even burned-out concepts like evil robots and far-flung apocalyptic futures are rejuvenated with a flair unseen for quite a long time. The over-the-top special effects, naturally, were the commercial draw, but I quickly tire of gimmicky eye candy. This is where the surprise came for me: amidst slow-motion bullet-dodging, slow-mo 180-degree fight scenes, and unsettling reality warps, the plot actually stood up. Sharp and intelligent, the concept, though perhaps not entirely original, is executed near-flawlessly. As expected from big-budget blockbusters, the plot inevitably dips into cheese for periods of time (especially the highly forced love scene[s]), but not enough to marr the overall experience. Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss slip into their roles wonderfully, and Joe Pantoliano makes himself wonderfully easy to hate as Cypher. The only downside is that Keanu Reeves, as always, can only be Keanu Reeves. He's typecast as himself. Even the usually-sharp dialogue slows down when he opens his mouth, with lines that seem like the script had blank spaces on all of Neo's dialogue and Reeves just wrote his own in. A clever, dark, and intelligent sci-fi flick. I think everyone on Earth owns this in their video collection, it's like a law or something, so just go on and buy it if you haven't yet. It may not be the best thing ever made, but it's still good enough to enjoy despite yourself.
Rating: Summary: I'm Caught In The Matrix Review: I loved this movie. I still pop the DVD in, watch it and repeat everyone's dialogue like a kid. I can't wait for the sequels to come out in 2003.

Rating: Summary: A point of reference for action movies Review: Neo (Keanu Reeves) is the real name of Mr. Anderson. On the one hand, he is a clerk who works for an enterprise, living the life of a current man. On the other hand, he results to be a hacker called like that. He meets an odd woman (Carrie-Ann Moss) who carries him away in order to meet Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). They are a hidden group of people also called by unusual names, and Morpheus is the one who tells Neo the truth: the world where he lives isn't the real world, but one called Matrix which is made by machines for humans that don't know they are prisoners. However, they do know this, so their duty is to save human beings from there looking for someone special, chosen to be the one who will finish this war and let people be free. Morpheus believes Neo is that person, who's not sure of himself, but he must try to open his mind and see he's capable of everything now, even jumping over buildings. He will have to expose his life to danger to save Morpheus' and fight with the dreadful agents that will bring them in many problems. So brilliant. Yes, this is the best action movie I've ever seen with no doubt because a lot of things. First, it doesn't deal about gunshots and explosions most of the time, but about martial attacks, one-to-one fights, assaults in the air and people being able to do more of what a normal human would do. The special effects are excellent, and the script as well, I mean, the idea of that the world where we live is not the real world, and the conflict established between human beings and machines. Another important thing here is the look of the characters, all in black, wearing sunglasses and carrying mobile phones of the new generation. I also liked their conversations. You should watch it. There's no praise enough for this work, and I'm waiting anxiously for its sequel.
