Summary: A SCI-FI FOR MANY MILLENIA
Review: As 2001 a space odissey was the sci-fi top film of the 60's, Star Wars of the 70's and Blade Runner of the 80's. Matrix is already the icon of this pre millenium tension. I've seen it thrice and I intend to go much more. An outstandingly convincing script with very few failures. I felt as like a new religion, as The Force used to be, coming out. There was also an unexpected harmonic cast with Keanu on the top of his maturity as an actor. The glamour that lacked in Star Wars Episode I was all drained to this state-of-art movie. 5 stars aren't enough. I need some more. I haven't tasted nothing alike since '83. Thrilling

Summary: SMART, FAST & FUN - "THE MATRIX" HAS IT ALL !!!
Review: The Matrix is one of the finest sci-fi action movies to come along in years. This movie successfully combines a gripping, quick paced story, and deep plot with some of the most fantastic imagery and action sequences ever shot. I've seen it twice and could easily watch it with keen interest many more times. In short...if you haven't seen The Matrix, you're missing one of the best movies ever made!

Summary: The good blend of Sci-fi and Philosophy
Review: I have already seen this movie three times, and will probably see it one more time before it disappears from the big screen. Even though I am not a Keanu Reeves fan (don't tell him that though!) him and his co-actors are in their best, as if they were born to act in this movie. The cast, scenerio, special effects are brilliant. I am sure everyone has seen this movie found something to relate in themselves. If you are looking for good special effects blended with a touch of philosopy, romance, and action, this is the movie you are looking for. Not to be missed for collectors.

Summary: The Best Movie I've Ever Seen!
Review: The plot was pure guiniess. A one in a million. It all fit so perfectly together that you don't even see how well it was put together till the second viewing. I won't give it all away though, see it for yourself.

Summary: Mind Blowing Experience
Review: I was a little leery about seeing this movie because Keanu Reeves really doesn't impress me much as an actor but I must say I enjoyed his presence in this film. This movie is definately one of the top movies of 1999. I can't stop raving about this movie.

Summary: THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!
Review: I won't lie to you - I've seen many, many movies in my life, but this one takes the cake. The Matrix is by far the best movie I have ever seen in my entire life. The non-stop action mixed with drama and suspense is a killer, and the plot line keeps moving at a very fast pace. I went back to see it again, and found that there were many things I had missed the first time. Even if you do not like action movies, you will love The Matrix. Also, despite popular opinion, this movie is NOT gory at all. There is very little blood shown, except for one or two scenes. The plot line also really gets you thinking. I'm not saying that any of that is REAL, but it at least makes you think about it. I left the movie the first time with adrenalin pumping through my veins and an unimaginable about of ideas going through my head. And Carrie Ann Moss - she's hot, she's spontaneous, she's an awesome actress, and she is a major contributing character to both the plot and the action of the movie - what more can I say? Keanu Reeves has another great part in this movie, and the Agents - what can I say? They're cunning, ruthless, and very well played. The entire movie is phenomenal - I assure you, you will not get bored. If you've already seen this movie, see it again. If you haven't seen it yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING THIS!? GO SEE IT! I would definitely recommend this movie in any format you can get - I'm planning on getting it in DVD, VHS, and anything else I can (maybe two copies in case one breaks). I don't know how else to describe this movie, so I'll say it again - THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE! Watch it and, whoever you may be, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: A philosophical masterpiece
Review: This masterpiece of a movie is of ineffable genius; it is rare to see a film so densely packed with multiple meanings, which like a baroque composition, the more you listen the more subtle insights are gained-an intellectual delight. And neither is it too obstruse to understand! Indeed, since it has so many levels, it would be a great movie for even the less perceptive and imaginative of action moviegoers. This movie deserves to be shown in college philosophy and political science classes, not just film. It is in fact a powerful artistic expression of an actual situation, of the dynamics of the system we now find ourselves immeshed in and struggle with in different ways. No doubt, like Neo, many of us who watch the film, can feel as Neo felt-that there is something going on, etc. but cant put your finger on it. This is because it powerfully resonates with truism, truths many of us would rather not be made aware of, hence the lure of the "matrix" and our fear of being "unplugged" from it.

Many people have interpreted a biblical/Christian message out of it, but I disagree. It is not saying that reality is false, that we create reality and by expanding our minds we can simply create another reality behind the reality. No, the reality is created for us, a false reality, a false consciousness, but material reality objectively exists independently of us. How it manifests in our consciousness is more the point. We can break free from the illusions of what we have been conditioned to believe is "reality," but seeing the truth comes at personal costs, and usually impels us to struggle for change and face repression. This is a basic Marxist tenant. What Marx called the 'superstructure" of a society, is the culture, ruling ideas, institutions, politics, etc., that creates a false consciousness but are functional to existing power relations, reinforced by existing social relations that stem from its production relations. Yes, exploitation is an integral part of world capitalism, and we are like batteries for the system-an accurate allegory to surplus value. Yet, we are hidden from many of its ugly facets around the globe and a rosy picture is instead created for mass consumption. The media "manufactures consent." We become sheep, plugged in to this nexus and once you unplug, it is hard to go back to this dream word of ignorant bliss. Make no mistake, the Matrix is here with us now. This movie is more like a leftist documentary about class struggle than a sci.fi film per se, and it is brilliantly done to include the many subtle philosophical and political elements that are involved. If you saw this film and didn't like it, go see it again and again and again. Sooner or later, you too will break out of the matrix!

Summary: Art on the level of Star Wars.
Review: Most aspects of this movie were not original. The idea of everything being an illusion is old and Matrix adds little to the concept. The character development was the worst part of the movie, and only Morpheus was anything more than utterly shallow. The soundtrack seemed adequate. But...come on, people! This movie was fun! Like Star Wars 20 years before, Matrix draws on many cultural elements and ideas and weaves them together in a wholy original, well-executed manner. The result is at the very least refreshing, often creative, and always engaging. The parallels to Star Wars go further. There is a rich, compelling universe; a hero gifted with supernatural powers; top-notch special effects; and finally a background with a cheesy, but still meaningful and well-delivered message. It is the synthesis, not the parts, that make Matrix original (and more than a simple action movie).

To me, a good movie is one that compells additional viewings and strives for originality. The Matrix acheives this at a level rarely matched in this decade.

Summary: Something for everyone.
Review: This movie is a perfect mix of those hard core action fans and those deep thought movie fans. it makes you think on weather or not our lives are controlled by an unseen force...and then when you figgure that out you want to kick its @$$. it's the BEST movie of 1999....even better than Jar Jar Binks (never want to see that guy again!)
