Summary: It stands out.
Review: It does indeed. It's not an Oscar drama film nor was it ever supposed to be, so play down this argument if you ever happen to hear one. Most likely, however, you'll hear compliments to the creators for a really outstanding job, for creating what has been considered by many as "the ultimate sci/fi movie" before, but that sadly could hardly be ever seen. You know what a good movie should be like, you can feel it, but all movies that intend to be it usually fail and only few get to achieve this state of near perfection. These few are remembered and referenced for a very long time and Matrix is one such movie in its genre. Chances of you liking it? - 99%, leaving that 1% for somewhat twisted people who like that nobody likes and hate what everyone likes.

Great production values, great acting, great plot. This movie hardly has any serious flaws worth mentioning. The movie is dynamic and has plenty of tense moments, well crafted indeed.

You most certainly know the story by now, so to keep it short: A programmer for a big company (Keanu Reeves) and also a hacker in free time is troubled by a feeling that there is something terribly wrong with the entire world that sorrounds him, a feeling that would soon grow into reality as he discovers with the help of underground rebels (that the entire world is nothing more than a sophisticated setup by high-tech AI. Moment at which struggle against machines for human freedom starts.

Watch it and you'll most certainly love it, that is if you mature enough to understand everything what happens on-screen.

Summary: Best Sci-Fi Action Film I Think
Review: This movie is so good it's not even funny. It's got great actors, an awesome plot, great action, great special effects. This movie has everything. The first time I saw this was when I was 10. It amazed me and I couldn't wait for the sequels. If you don't have a copy of the DVD, you're missing out on one of the best movies ever. In order to get the full experience, you need the DVD. It's got great sound (5 out of 5) and great anamorphic widescreen picture quality (5 out of 5). This movie is AWESOME!!!!

Summary: This movie is awesome!!
Review: This is one of the best action/sci-fi movie to date! The special-effects are the best. Everybody says Keanue Reeves acting in this movie was very stiff, but I think they just can't get over some of his other movies, because all the acting in this movie is superb. Carrie-Ann Moss' role as Trinity was brilliant, and Lawrence Fishbourne's role as Morpheaues was equally amazing. And of course, the best part of this movie is the action. I was very impressed with the Bullet-Time effects.

The movie focuses around Neo, a hacker whoose world is turned upside down as he finds that the world he and everyone else exists in is only an illusion and a prison to the entire human race. The leader of a resistance group fighting for the freedom of mankind, Morpheaues, believes Neo is "The One", destined to save humans from total destruction.

If you look at the top of this review, you notice that I gave The Matrix 4 stars instead of 5. The one complaint I have is not with the movie. The one complaint I have is with the MPAA. My question to them: Why is this movie rated R? There decision to give this movie an R rating was, in my opinion,....

That aside, this movie is awesome.

Summary: Looks good but no people
Review: This flick is all computerized special effects and characters who are as bloodless as the computers. That is, the effects are fun but the people are of little concern, since they have no reality -- being involved instead with leaping great distances through the air, walking on walls, and dodging bullets. The plot seems to involve the premise that everyboy has been created or controlled by a computer somewhere. The principals, who may be human beings, lie about hooked up to a computer aboard some sort of vehicle. What we see on the screen appears to be what's going on in their brains. Then there are other human-like creatures trying to hunt them down. Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburn sort all this out.

Summary: For those who like a good plot with an action flick.
Review: After hearing all the hype on the Matrix for the past three and a half years, I finally got to see it for myself--and, I'll tell you, it was well worth my time.

The plot involves a man named Thomas Anderson. He's an average guy that works at an average office--until he receives a phone call from a strange man named Morpheus. When the two meet, Morpheus shows Anderson (now going by the name of Neo) that his life is not real--it's actually the Matrix, a computer program set up by machines so that they could blind the humans from the truth. I won't tell you too much, but chances are your mind's boggling already.

I truly have to give props for the incredible action scenes and great choice of actors.

Summary: it was...good
Review: The Matrix was a good movie but it was far from great. The hype over Matrix 2 is way over blown. I just don't like it when a movie's strongest point is it's special effects. The Matrix storyline takes a backseat to the "wow" factor. It's filled with bad acting and poor matrial arts scenes. The specal effects are neat for the first 20min but get old. How many times does somebody jumping in slow motion look cool? One.

Summary: A Bit Overrated
Review: This is a good movie, but doesn't deserve the fanatical following it has. Some reviewers below commented on the "good story" in the movie, but that is really it's weakest point. There are so many holes in the plot and entire concept that you can't possibly do anything but go into suspended disbelief mode and ignore the so-called "plot" entirely.

Other people talk about the "innovative" plot, too, but I've read science fiction books in the 1960's and 1970's that covered the same story line. Sorry, guys, but there is very little new under the sun; the plot (such as it is) for this movie certainly isn't new in any sense of the word.

Another criticism that other people inexplicably argue with me over - the acting skills, and I use that phrase lightly, of Keanu Reeves. He has improved a bit over his horrendous performance in "Speed", but still, he is one of the worse actors in the business today. Lawrence Fishburne's acting consists mainly of looking cool in his sunglasses, too. He pulls it off, but it's not a challenging or engaging performance at all. The best actor in the movie is Joe Pantoliano, who went on to be the gangster everyone loved to hate in "The Sopranos".

So what does the movie have going for it? Great innovative special effects, and for people who aren't heavy into the martial arts genre, good fight sequences. Those of us who have been following martial arts movies BEFORE "The Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" have seen all this before, and done far better, too (Hong Kong has it all over Hollywood in this department). But still, even though the actors have NO martial arts skills, the action sequences are reasonably well done. That's a credit to Yuen Wo Ping, the fight coordinator. Again, those of us in the know have been following his work for years. Once again, nothing new...

The buzz for "The Matrix - Reloaded" is all about - what? The special effects. That says it all - no one cares about the story, they just want to see new and better FX and action sequences. So I'm afraid the movie will be all about out-doing the original as far as action sequences and special effects go. That's fine, but there needs to be more to it than that. Well, then again, maybe there doesn't...

Now, the DVD. In spite of my criticisms of the movie, this is still one of the best DVD productions, in some way, on the market. The unfortunate part is the visual aspects of the movie. The Wachowski brothers purposely made the movie dark, with very little color or detail. So it is not reference quality, visually, at all. Don't use this disk to show off your video system; it just doesn't deliver in that deparment. But the audio is outstanding; one of the best sounding DVDs ever. I'm surprised so few DVDs releases since this one have equalled it's audio quality.

So is this DVD worth buying? If you have a good surround system, yes, absolutely. Just don't try to follow the story - sit back and enjoy the action.

Summary: The Matrix
Review: The Matrix is a movie about the world being taken over by robots, who have us in a virtual world. The hacker Neo (played by Keanu Reeves) is brought out of the matrix and learns of the real world, and how the people are trying to help everyone out of the matrix. I thought that this was a kick ass movie, and I've gotten all the lines down, I watched it so much. This is the movie that did new things with the camera, and after this movie, almost every movie had a seen in it that was created by this movie. I would suggest this for people who enjoy action, sci-fi type movies.

Summary: Hated it
Review: I may be the only person who hated this movie but I sure did. It consisted of fights! And more fights! Dumb, dumb, dumb
