Summary: overrated
Review: Well-done; but not nearly as good as most people think it is. The whole virtual reality/reality angle isn't particularly new, or even presented freshly, but since most people aren't acquainted with science fiction that well they're impressed. The acting is horrible; I wouldn't expect much from the male lead, but even the other actors, some of who have showed talent elsewhere give wooden performances. The movie is put together well, and while the art direction is the usual Ridley Scott/H.R. Giger ripoff it's at least done professionally. The action scenes are well-choreographed, though I've seen a lot better. All in all a decent movie.

Review: I loved this movie! It had excellent special effects and sound, but I am upset at the people who didn't like it just because of Keanu Reeves. I admit, he isn't the best actor in the world, but with the help of Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving, he is awesome. His lines, short as they are are totally cool. I especially liked"Guns. Lots of guns." and when they're in the subway,"You're empty. So are you." This is excellent and I reccomend it to everyone.P.S. I personally like Keanu Reeves alot.

Summary: I'm not sure why this movie blows everyone away...
Review: It's an interesting flick with a thoughtful premise - artificial intelligence gone wild and the physicality of real life is not at all what it appears to be.It is a movie that makes you think and I did enjoy much of it. However, perhaps I didn't get the deeper message of "The Matrix." Haven't we all had that feeling that life is more of a mental experience than a physical one? That physical life is downright puzzling at times? What proof do we have of our own existence, outside of our five senses? If this movie is the medium that gets everyone to thinking these deep thoughts, then I suppose it's a good thing. Einstein said many years ago "To those of us who are committed physicists, the past, present and future (ie: mortal limitations?) are only illusion, however persistent." And one of those good old philosophers (maybe Kant?) said, in substance, "if I fall asleep and dream that I'm warming myself in front of a fire, the whole experience seems to be completely real. How am I to know what is real and what is the dream?" (my paraphrase) Perhaps this movie is simply the vehicle that gets the young folks asking the deep questions the philosophers have pondered for centuries. I found this movie kind of so-so, myself. A strong 3, but not much more. Fisburne's acting was exemplary, but he's one of my faves, anyway. The violence and graphic depictions (such as the de-bugging) pretty well grossed me out.

Summary: Think before you buy
Review: I saw this movie right when it came out, in a theater with a huge screen and dolby sound and all that, and I LOVED it. It was dark, edgy, pushed a lot of boundaries and I was thinking about it for days afterwards. Well, I rented it again last week (and was thinking of buying it) but I found that at the second viewing, the movie had really lost its edge for me. When you already know the intricasies of the plot and have already figured out where the labyrinth goes, most of what is left is a bunch of special effects and fight scenes. Admittedly the special effects and fight scenes are excellent examples of editing and high tech computer graphics, but the movie did not draw me in on the second viewing and I'm glad I didn't buy a copy of it.

Summary: visual eye candy masterpiece
Review: this movie has visual excellence and story to go with it even though it copies off of John Woo, dark City, Japanese animation, and comic books it blends it all together perfectly opening your mind grabs you spinning you around in slow motion. the matrix will have you like no other movie. like it or not it is ground-breaking.

Review: This is the best action movie I have ever seen, plus it's sci-fi. It has a tremondous plot line that's original. I was so dissapointed when the movie ended, because I wanted so much more. I can't wait for the sequel/prequel.

Summary: imaginative
Review: The laurels for this movie are accumulating and not undeservedly-it's full of invention and captivating energy. Consider two elements. Hugo Weaving's ( the bad guy )deeply modulated tone of voice. This guy encapsulated his performance entirely in the idea that his voice, which is the only physical attribute that is truly available to him in his rapidly changing incarnations, can be the menacing, darkly efficient force that his character is meant to suggest. Given so little to work with, but having some of the best dialogue, Weaving portrays one of the most rational, smart, ruthless, and, consequently, scary villains in a long time. I'll bet this is one of the performances he will be remembered for his entire career. Another element to consider is the screenplay. A great many people are either confounded by Wachowskis' work or dismiss it as a contrived cop-out to hang the F/X on, but look at the genuine invention that calls attention to itself in practically every scene. Those who compare The Matrix unfavorably to Dark City miss a fundamental point. DC is a smooth and interesting narrative because it evades explanations and works more by implication, by relying on tone and atmosphere to tell the story. Matrix is there on the screen to be scrutinized in every aspect, as the fault-finders see the misses (which there are), but don't see the cumulative, visionary stroytelling that is also there. Wachowskis' is an inquisitive, dynamic intelligence, which attempts not only to redefine (which is common enough), but also to EXPLAIN (not common at all) the movie's world in terms that are revolutionary, though understandable to ourselves. It does not make us think as some movies do because the material has been thought through and finessed for us to an extent that makes any further contemplation unnecessary, but the ideas it offers are as fresh and as captivating as anything put on the screen in '99. When the movie aspires to so much, and accomplishes it so brilliantly, it must not only be given credit, but forgiven for the rough edges.

Review: This is Morphius, and I want you to trust me, that when you see this movie, you will experience something you've never experienced before. If you take the blue pill, you will return to your bland "Full House" reruns. If you take the red pill, you will be taken on a journey that is this movie. Follow the white rabbitt, watch for the lady in the red dress, walk on walls and ceilings when dudes are trying to gun you down with a million bullets. Unless you do, you will never know if you are the ONE.

Summary: What a ride!
Review: If you enjoy an intelligent, multi-layered plot that is absolutely non-predictable, you're going to love this movie. If you delight in meticulous detail and some of the coolest special effects ever created for celluloid, you are going to love this movie. If you like a story so complex you enjoy it even more on the second and third viewing because of more content you were able to extrapolate, you are going to love this movie. And if you love to watch smart characters doing logical things while interacting with cogent dialog, you will love this movie. Unless you have access to a 6,000 horsepower, nitro-burning funny car and can get your jollies in a sub five-second pass that changes the curvature of your eyeballs, then rent this flick. What a ride!

Summary: A Fantastic Movie
Review: This is the ultimate in SciFi. Though, I think they borrowed a great deal from the World of Darkness gaming system. It's very much like "Mage". I was a little worried when I first heard that Keanu Reeves was in this movie. He's a terrible actor. He's monotone, and ruined what could've been an otherwise good film in A Walk in the Clouds. However, somehow... they managed to make a fantastic movie, with him involved. Others have noted, and I also point out, that Keanu really doesn't speak much in this show. He does a lot of posing and looking cool... perfectly appropriate for the film, and has a lot of short lines. Somehow the Director made it work, and Keanu was very good in the role. I recommend this movie highly, on VHS or DVD.
