Summary: Every story has to start somewhere.
Review: Those who are disappointed with The Matrix should be ashamed of themselves. Every great story has to start somewhere. Take Star Wars for instance. A great series started with 'A New Hope' the movie where we learn about the plot. Those who love Star Wars respect 'A New Hope' for the fact that it tells you where and when you are. The same goes for the Matrix. Respect the movie for the fact that it shows you where and when you are in the series.

Summary: Better than The Phantom Menace
Review: Those words are hard to type. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have seen the original trilogy hundreds of times. I saw TPM over 10 times. The Matrix is superior, especially upon repeated viewings. The story is fresh and grabs you from the start. The special effects, sound, and editing are incredible. If you have a DVD player this movie is reference material. If you are a sci-fi fan this should be the next movie you buy. I would have given it 6 stars if it was possible.

Summary: The best movie I've ever seen!
Review: Though I am not a big lover of sci-fi or action this DVD is the best I have ever seen. It is packed with beautiful, stunning scenes, and none of the action scenes feels like they are faked. Normally I can enjoy an action but I am always thinking in terms of "Yeah, right I know how they did this..." but trough this movie I caught myself literary catching my breath several times beacause I had forgotten to breath. This is more than an action, it has a good script with characters you really take to your heart and a good plot. The scenes, environments and the characters clothes were so well designed that all I could do was line back and enjoy. This might sound exaggerated but I really mean it when I say that this movie changed my life. It left me with a great feeling of joy and strength and it made it impossible to really enjoy an other movie, since none can match the experience of the Matrix. In a way I am sorry I have already seen it beacause I would love to have that experience left.

Summary: Sets the Tone for Action in the New Millenium
Review: Though it came out a year short, I consider The Matrix to be the 1st movie of the 21st century. This film successfully combines all of the best elements of past action movies and propels the genre forward into the digital age. By the mid to late 80's action movies had evolved enough where the hero could be an ordinary guy. Strongmen like Anuld & Sly, hard boiled private eyes, lone wolf cops and deadly assassins still had & have their places but there was the growing acceptance of portraying the hero as a family man with real concerns, a tormented soul living in troubled times or just a guy caught up in events beyond his control. The Matrix takes this further by, finally, proving both computers and virtual reality are usable elements for action movies. Previous attempts to integrate computers and virtual reality into mainstream action & Sci-Fi have met with mixed results at best. The Terminator movies, especially T2, were probably the best of the lot at combining an alternate reality with present day action. Certainly, virtual reality and alternate reality are different but they belong in the same family. The Matrix turns this upside down and inside out. The real world is presented as fake and an alternate reality; a post apocalypse machine ruled world, is posited as the real world. In this movie, the characters themseves get to choose their characters as they leave the real world and enter the Matrix. They wear leather and sunglasses. The know martial arts and how to handle guns and pilot attack helicopters. In real life, they are hunted & largely helpless. In the Matrix, they are studs. Most of the 1st half is philosophy 101 as Neo (our hero) must decide between a lonely and unsatisfying false reality and an exciting but dangerous post-apocalypse where machines feed off humans and supply them w/ a world to keep them alive. Predestination vs. free will, of course. Man vs. machine. Immediate gratification vs. long term viability. And so on. Most of the second half is fantastic action (often in slo-mo) to rock music and a budding love affair. Smart, cool, modern & pace setting.

Summary: Don't think it's good............know it.
Review: Thrilling, action-packed, cutting-the-edge graphics, intelligent film, cann't watch it enough, I wish I could rate this a 6 star. This film is a rollercaster ride of excitement.....choose your pill.

Summary: Totally Original
Review: To answer the person who made the comment on the batteries: If you remember, in the movie they explain that a human being produces much more electricity than any battery ever can or will produce. Therefore it is more efficient to use humans. This is definitely one of the best Sci-Fi movies I have ever seen. The story is excellent, the special effects are amazing, and the direction is superb. As you watch this movie, you can't help but wonder how the directors were able to so perfectly capture their vision on film.

Summary: An fun action movie, but highly overated
Review: To be brief, "the Matrix" is, at best, an "OK" action film with intellectual pretentions that come off sort of goofy-cyber-juvenile. Still, it is alot of fun to look at (until you realize the whole thing looks like a Playstation version of a Gap commercial). Keanu Reeves is at his "pretending not to be a complete stoner moron" best and Mr. Fishburne looks very pleased to be making so much money for such little acting effort. The real star (human wise) is the character of Trinity who is absolutely stunning to look at and has some of the best martial arts moves. But even the tough as nails Trinity couldn't save me from feeling this film was basically a B-grade flick on a A-grade budget. Worse of all, it takes itself so deadpan serious that I couldn't help but laugh through most of it. Still, if your looking for some mindless techno-dystopic fun, see the film. If you want something in the same vein with a little more substance, try "Blade Runner" or "Cube" or the animated films "Ghost in the Shell" or "Akira".

Summary: Nearly a revelation.
Review: To deal with the flaws in 'The Matrix' might take a while. It isn't a high-brow or particularly profound film. What is it? An exhilarating, exhausting, immersive ride through some imaginative filming and unimaginative writing.

Complaints about Mr. Reeves can, in my opinion, be more than cancelled out by applause for Mr. Fishburne, who is nothing short of magnificent for the first half of the film. Hugo Weaving is also a great surprise as the inhuman Agent Smith, and should be raking in cash for his next few roles, if there's any justice in this world.

Give thanks, please, for the moody and perfectly-placed soundtrack, the clever SFX, and the enthralling fight sequences. Niggles 'The Matrix' may have, but, while you're watching, you won't have the breath to criticise. And that's all you can ask from an action/sci-fi movie. 'Blade Runner' it ain't.

Summary: Hard to beat
Review: To fully appreciate the Matrix, watch it on DVD with ProLogic.

Excellent script, acting, effects, stunts. Jackie Chan meets Hackers. I found it reminiscent of Dark City and perhaps Total Recall, in that things are not always as they appear...

Summary: An ACTION packed SPECIAL EFFECTS master piece!
Review: To me this movie felt like a wild ride on a Ninja zx7 going 130MPH down a winding San Fransico hill. It was intense and at the same time insightful and somewhat philosopical. It made you look at reality in a whole different light. At times however the dialog got a bit monotonous but overall 4 Stars.
