Summary: Superb, shame about the green tint
Review: This is an excellent film that realy does need a second look, so what better that the DVD version with all those extra features. One concern though was the green tint on the film transfer, that is not resident on any of the extras. Be good to know if anyone else has seen this on this Region 1 played in the UK.

Summary: Woah, Very Cool!
Review: This is an excellent movie. I recommend it to everyone! There are a few problems with the story, but it is good for the most part. Lots of people think it is hard to understand the first time you watch it. But I on the other hand, got the whole story the first time. I must admitt though, it is much better on DVD. Good luck.

Summary: Enjoy The Matrix... Until You Unplug...
Review: This is an exceptional film, full of action, suspense, mystical philosophy and symbolism. The story is set in a sci-fi future where AI machines have taken over the world and plugged biological humans into the Matrix, where they experience an illusory reality while their body serves as a battery/energy source for the machines. "Neo" Anderson ("One" "Son of Man"), played smoothly by K. Reeves is contacted via hacking of the Matrix by a group of renegade humans who have been able to hide from the machines and escape enslavement while they prepare for the "One" expected to lead humanity to freedom. Adventure ensues when Neo is unplugged and joins the freedom fighters. This story is a wonderful allegory for human existence and civilization, and the film has excellent effects, solid acting, and an impressive script for a movie of this genre. The DVD has cool bonus features and is a must for those seeking subtle symbolism and other nuances of the film.

Summary: Incredible movie - very poor DVD format -
Review: This is an exceptional movie - however - the VHS video version has the full frame of the movie - the DVD widescreen letterbox version cuts off tremendously from the top and bottom in the leterbox format, and elongates in the center way too much in the 4:3 format (keanu now looks like he lost 40 lbs..and is 8 feet tall). Just bought 1/15/00, a brand new Panasonic DVD player and a 25 inch Zenith TV, I played with all the TV screen aspects, and modes 4:3, 16:9, but I could not get a decent picture! Why is this incredible film burnt from the master so poorly? The VHS has a full screen but the picture resolution is unfortunately not as crystal sharp as in the DVD. Can MATRIX be reburnt onto a standard format? If anyone compares the VHS to the DVD, the VHS clearly shows a far more percentage of the screen without it being cut-off. Mine was a Region 1 video, and I'm in the US. Did anyone else also have Matrix in the VHS format, and notice the tremendous amount of picture that is left out in the DVD format? Why can't MATRIX have been burnt onto the CD like its predecessor - Johhny Mnemonic - another incredible movie. Johnny Mnemonic was burnt to the DVD in 2 formats - the STANDARD and the Widescreen. The Standard side (Side B) has the full uncut picture and looks great!, but the widescreen side cuts off tremendously on the 25 inch Zenith TV. I tried all the different combinations for TV and screen aspect, on the widescreen side, and frankly, the widescreen DVD side is very very poor picture quality, simply because it misses so much of the top and bottom. I hope I can find someone to write to to find a way so that they will burn from the original master the full picture rather than the cut-off letterbox (widescreen version).

Review: This is an exellent movie! The Sci-fi/action was great, the special effects were awsome, the plot was very clever and the acting was very good to. I saw this movie 3 times it's an absolute must-see. I'd say the best movie of the year!

Summary: Extra-ordinary movie and fascinating plot
Review: This is an extra-ordinary movie with a fascinating plot about artificial intelligence machines in the future, so advanced and "intelligent" that they can control and harness human beings' bio-electricity as energy, and create a virtual reality world (called the Matrix) to keep people deceived and contented... except for some, like Morpheus and his crew. The movie has many interesting points to look out for, many of which have been mentioned in some reviews here. There is one more, about the characters and their names - notice that the humans have "non-human" names (like Switch, Apoc, Tank, Dozer, Mouse, Trinity, Cypher), while the non-humans (i.e. the agents, which are actually sentient computer programs) have human names (Smith, Brown and Jones)!! Talk about switching identities. By the way, Neo and Choi (Neo's "customer") happen to be Chinese surnames (transliterated from certain dialects) and thus ring a bell for viewers who have these surnames, especially if he's called Thomas too!

The plot summary has Keanu Reeves as Thomas "Neo" Anderson, a computer programmer and hacker, but don't expect to see him do any programming or hacking work in the movie. But...who cares? The adventures he went through, in and out of the Matrix, with Morpheus, Trinity and the rest are enough to fascinate any sci-fi/action adventure fan.

I watched the video with some students (primary school age) during the school holidays and they thoroughly enjoyed it, although many of them have already seen the movie before, even knew what was coming up next, and could remember their lines. The story-line and philosophies in some of the dialogue may not be easily grasped by children, but the action, fabulous stunts and visual effects are definitely a treat not just for adults but for kids too. And who says only women find Keanu gorgeous? A few of the students I watched the video with, went "Wahh, handsome, man!" when they saw him (on his visit to the Oracle). And mind you, these are just primary school boys.

All in all, it is one of the few movies we enjoyed watching more than once, and the story contents, something that you can ponder or debate about.

Summary: Matrix is an instant favorite - easily makes my top ten
Review: This is an invigorating movie. It is so satifying on so many levels. While being one of the best action movies, it is addresses the plight of every human being with a story that mirrors Biblical teachings. An eye openning tour de force!

Summary: nice effects, but,...
Review: this is an ok SF film, with an OK soundtrack, decent acting but the story is another spin on, what I would call, the Jesus story because of the following. U have good n evil, a lady called trinity, a Judas n a messianic character played by Reeves. I would rate this film 2.5 stars but that s not possible. It s not bad but it aint great.
