Summary: Deserving of the Hype
Review: The 'Matrix' combines elements of Alice in Wonderland, Japanese anime, Kung Fu flicks, post-apocalyptic sci-fi (most notably 'the Terminator', but also elements of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' and even 'Soylent Green')and theology (Buddhist/Hindu concept that life is 'maya' or illusion; plus elements of Christianity -a retelling of sorts of the crucifixion with Morpheus as John the Baptist, his crew are the 'disciples' plus even a 'Mary' and a 'Judas'- Neo is killed and then 'resurrected').

"The Matrix" copies the formula and success of 'Star Wars without repeating it and creates a stunning, classic action/sci-fi movie with a rare combination of equal style and substance. The DVD includes various commentaries, a "Making of...', and a cool feature which allows you to sidebar into clips of how certain special effects were created - all of which you will gredily consume and still leave you salivating for the sequal.
This intense, nearly flawless film is highly recommended!

Summary: Bwahahaha!
Review: The 5 stars aren't for the movie but for the ingenius review by Dennis Littrell. I had read the "12 Year old Viewer review" after I posted my own which is right above it, and remember thinking that it was ridiculous and not being sure if this was serious or not. But regardless his latest review is nearly perfect. i just thought i'd give credit where credit is due. :)

Summary: Great Story, video and sound
Review: The action is furious with great Dolby Digital surround. The story is clever and the special effects are second to none. It is eye candy with a story. I haven't enjoyed a video like the Matrix in a while and I've seen a few in the last six months. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Great action, easy to understand plot!
Review: The action was great. The plot was very easy to understand. The best techno-thriller ever! It's a gotta-have movie for sci-fi special FX fans!

Summary: It was awsome, I don't have enough thumbs to stick up!
Review: The action was well coordinated and it is an action movie that, for once, had an interesting/comsuming plot.

Summary: Exellent plot, Exellent Effects, too much overacting
Review: The Actors in The Matrix took overacting to the extreme. Instead of playing their characters the way they should be played, they pretended to be all gloomy and dark, screwing up their lines, making them sound forced. However, the rest of the movie more than makes up for it, with Awesome fight scenes, Exellent visual effects, and a great ending sequence. All in all, 4 stars.

Summary: A Frightening Look at Humanitys Future in the Next Millenium
Review: The appeal of _The Matrix_ lies in the idea that our everyday, banal existence is a computer-generated illusion.

It is also a cyber-punk movie that deals with the rapid evolution of technology and its horrific consequences.

Neo, the protagonist, is the savior of the world who has been plucked out of "reality" to fulfill his destiny as the destroyer of the Matrix. Neo's character is reminiscent of Jesus: his coming is prophesied, his purpose is to save humanity from the technological monster it has machinated, he is killed, and lastly is resurrected and henceforth reveals his God-like status.

The Matrix is an ingeniously crafted film with ground-breaking special effects and an absorbing storyline.

Summary: What a Waste of a Great Story.
Review: The basic story and the effects of "Matrix" are as good as Hollywood is capable of, but Keanu Reeves provides yet another dramatically bland performance. Not as bad as his monotonous destruction of Speed, he nevertheless serves to prevent a great idea from becoming a truly great film. Watch "12 Monkees" and the performances of Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, then compare to Reeves' pitiful work --- it's sad. Even Fishburn, who's capable of great depth and charisma, appears one-dimensional and miscast. Must be the result of lackluster direction. The movie is worth seeing however, as the concept and the effects are unique and highly watchable.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE EVER, NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: The best action ever, the best sfx ever, the best "could-be-true" plot ever, etc. Think there is something a little bit strange about the world? Maybe it is not the real world, but just a figment of your imagination. Actually, this movie proves that it is just your mind.

Summary: What is the Matrix?
Review: The best advantage of this dvd is being able to see the behind the scenes footage. To see the story boards and the ability to understand the concepts. This is a movie that have further progressed the advancement of cinematography (sp). A great futuristic movie.
