Summary: Best Movie of the 1990's
Review: One word: Whoa. This movie blew me away! It is by far the best movie of 1999 and, as a personal favorite, on my top 5 list. To me, this movie was the perfect combination of Eastern thought and Western Society. To understand this movie, you must have incredible knowledge not only of computers, but also of Eastern thought. Reaching spiritual Enlightenment would be like being "Unplugged" from the Matrix. By reaching Enlightenment, you come to realize that the whole world and everything in it is an illusion. You come to realize that "There is no spoon." Not everyone can reach Enlightenment, much like how not everyone could be informed that the Matrix exists, as we saw in Neo's skepticism in the beginning and Cypher's inability to handle what he knows. In 1993, Keanu Reeves starred in a movie that I think helped prepare him for the Matrix. The movie was called Little Buddha. It is the story of a young boy from Seattle who finds out that he is a reincarnated Tibetan Lama. He, several Lamas, and his father travel to Nepal and find out that two other children exist who are also believed to be reincarnations of the same Lama. This movie also features the story of the Buddha and his journey to Enlightenment. Keanu Reeves plays a wealthy Prince Siddhartha, who has no knowledge of the outside world. He begins to get glimpses and feelings of the world that surrounds him, and decides to leave his Kingdom, Father, Wife and child to find out what is in the real world. He reaches Enlightenment while sitting under a Bodhi tree, which is where the name of the famous Bodhi Tree Bookstore in Los Angeles comes from. Had Reeves not played this role as the Buddha, I don't think that he would have been as knowledgeable about Eastern thought. After I saw the movie, I thought, "What if this was real? Our lives would be controlled and mean absolutely nothing and our bodies would be nothing more than a Duracell battery." I felt much the same way after I saw The Truman Show. Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne both play incredible roles in this movie. The Matrix is both of their best, by far. Agent Smith was also incredible. Something about his performance blew me away, even though I have no idea what it was. I think this movie excels at combining Buddhism, modern technology, computers and so much more. I saw this movie 2 times and my father did 3 times. I will definitely buy it when it comes out on video. I strongly recommend it for anybody that wants to experience this ultimate thrill-ride!

That's all. I like Mr. Reeves also. The way he's acting. The Matrix has you.

Review: Other reviews will give you more than you need to know about the plot of this movie; really, though, the point of a film like this is the special effects. And the special effects are dazzling. The visual atmosphere created in this film is numbingly consistent and appropriate for the situation and the story told--that is, dark, artificial, yet glamorous. The characters are dressed and made up to be cyberpunk heroes and heroines, all in black leather (Laurence Fishburne is particulary resplendent in his first scene in a full-length black leather coat), dark glasses, and rebel attitude. The computer-aided freeze-frame rotation shots, first seen (to my knowledge) in commercials for the Gap, are perfected here and used on multiple occasions. These glossy surfaces, however, represent the only reason for watching the film. The premise of the film--that the reality we all know and experience is a computer-generated fiction played out in our sleeping brains while the computers themselves feed off of our energy--seems promising (albeit cribbed from any number of precedents dreamed up by science fiction writers decades ago), but in the end it provides little more than an excuse for Keanu Reeves & co. to shoot up stuff, and an alarming number of people besides. That most of the victims are innocents is beside the point; Reeves and his compatriots are among the enlightened few who have awakened from the dream, and this godlike status gives them the moral authority to cut down whoever gets in their way. Thus, at root, there is no moral center whatsoever to this film. I view "The Matrix" as perhaps the perfect example of Hollywood's desensitization to violence, or of its subjugation of horror and outrage to style and attitude. I know this sounds pollyannish, especially for someone like myself who finds the intermittent attempts of various government figures to goad Hollywood into producing less violent fare to be, at best, silly, and at worst, dangerous. But to me this movie seemed like an adolescent boy's self-centered fantasy of power, and it had nothing else to moderate that influence. I know I shouldn't expect too much--this is, after all, also a Keanu Reeves vehicle. The role he is given here is perfect for this living mannequin, all monosyllabic lines and slow-motion action sequences, so for once he contributes to rather than detracts from the film. Still, I truly wish there had been something underneath the black-leather glamour, something less superficial to admire. "The Matrix" is visually resplendant and superficially entertaining, which is all that most audiences really seem to want anymore. If I say that it has all the depth of your average carnival ride, that is not to say that it can't be as transiently thrilling. Just don't look for anything more.

Review: out of ALL the many movies i have seen throughout my life, this is THE best. from the suberbly choreographed kung fu scenes, to the in depth biblical referenced storyline, it is the best movie i have seen, i've seen it at least 10 times and know theres people out there whove probably seen it 3 times that at least.not much more else to say except that it still is not perfect, (the phone dropping and door bouncing-through-flames special effect) but for anyone who has not seen this movie, i command you to go RIGHT NOW and watch it! enough said

Summary: Live Inside The Matrix
Review: Outstanding! This is definately must see. I can honestly say that this is the best movie I have ever seen. The movie totally explains all the questions that arise. The more you watch it the more you pick up. The cast was amazing, the soundtrack is equally as good. And the special effects and weird camera angles made the movie all the much better. Go get you a copy of this movie!
