Summary: Best Sci-Fi flick of the decade
Review: Imagine a plot as thought provoking, or even at times confusing, as Total Recall but with more action, better special effects and acting. The music score and costumes combined with the slow motion action sequences will surely send a chill down your spine. At the same time this movie will also make you think about the surreal possibilities of the future. A must see if even only for the eye candy.

Summary: Matrix - go see it, you'll be impressed
Review: Imagine if you woke up one day and found out that the life you were living was all a lie, and that in fact your current life was merely a facade to the 'real world'. This is the theme that this film revolves around. The matrix is a wonderfully-produced, very engaging movie, filmed in Sydney, Australia and based somewhere in our future. It takes on influences from all genres of film, including the popular Japanese 'manga' film style. Many interesting questions are raised - like whether our perception of life is actually being programmed into us, and whether we are all being deceived by a 'higher power'. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie - I recommend you buy it.

Summary: Can you survive the Matrix
Review: In "The Matrix", Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) leads a double life - nerdy, anonymous and put upon computer programmer, and master hacker at night under the name "Neo". When not hacking into forbidden systems or pirating software, Neo tracks the movements of a shadowy master-hacker named "Morpheus", not knowing that he is being tracked both by Morpheus and a trio of sinister government agents led by Mr. Smith (Hugo Weaving) who hope to catch Morpheus using Neo as bait. At this point Neo may be thinking that he's needed to hack into some major computer or steal some hot new source code. Morpheus, when he finally appears, offers something else - a choice between going for reality or persisting in accepting the world as it is with its many apparent but implacable inconsistencies, nothing having to do with computers or hacking. Everybody seems to say that the world doesn't work right, but only a very few will rally to Morpheus' side and shatter their illusions about what is real and what is merely a virtual reality called the Matrix, in which humanity toils away under the watchful eye of a sentient and ruthless artifical intelliegence embodied by the "Agents". The agents are evil and, because they have a limited ability to bend the rules of reality within the Matrix, all-powerful as well. Although Morpheus and his band of resistance fighters (including the oily Joe Pantoliano and the excellent Carrie-Ann Moss) can enter the Matrix and power themselves up (conjuring up vast armories of weapons and instantly downloading into their minds vast tracts of information on topics such as flying a helicopter or kick-boxing), they remain vulnerable to the Agents superior powers. Only the legendary "one" can defeat them by matching the agents in their capacity to remain above the laws of reality in a world that doesn't really exist, and Neo, Morpheus decides early on, must be that one."The Matrix" excels as the cyberpunk epic we'd probably given up hope of seeing (at least with the similarly casted "Johnny Mnemonic"). The script wisely leaves the nature of the virtual reality's creators shrouded except to the degree of their overwhelming power and their intentions for us. Under the special effects (bullets that slow down in mid-air, fight scenes in which the laws of gravity are suspended ala "Crouching Tiger") is a great story of vulnerable people at the edge of existence. Laurence Fishburne is great as an almost biblical prophet whose lines are still sufficiently free of the Hollywood mix of zen and technobabble that sunk Johnny Mnemonic and kept anybody else from taking cyberpunk to the screen. Reeves is good because the script doesn't require him to say much. But the real stars are Carrie-Ann Moss and Hugo Weaving. As the dark and beautiful "Trinity", a leather-clad killer who manages to slip between seemingly impossible extremes of vulnerability and strength - something Hollywood does routinely with male characters - Moss will steal your heart. As the evil head-agent, Weaving uses a precisely clipped monotone of an indeterminate accent to convey a startlingly convincing alien presence with a deeper impact than any special effect. Because it is a visual treat, the standard cropped-screen version is hard to follow - get the widescreen.

Summary: TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THAT IS THE DECISION
Review: In "The Matrix" a small group of individuals is inclined to free humankind from the claws of Artificial Intelligence. A few machines, who need solar energy to survive, have taken to themselves to make energy thru human feelings and emotions, in a world where the atmosphere has been destroyed and the sunlight does not reach the ground. In this battle against A.I., this group, led by Morpheus, is searching for "the One", who will be able to control the Matrix and bend it to his will. When they find Neo, they think their end is over, but to be the one, Neo must believe he is the one. When he believes it, he will become the one who will start the revolt against the machines, and free the human race.

Review: In 1999, Audiences including myself all saw this Amazing Sci-fi
Action Blockbuster that shattered the box-office records of that year. for those who haven't seen it, i cannot tell you what it is about, just go rent it and be happy. Absoultly recommended and worth buying, plus it will become a Classic.

Summary: techno lovestory set in a grotty digitally controlled future
Review: In a story with a convoluted plot set in the 1990s about machines controlling peoples imaginations so they think they are in the 1990s when they are actually plugged into a huge computer programme running sometime in the 23rd century, a computer hacker called Neo wants to know "what is the matrix ?". Along comes Trinity played by the fit Carrie-Anne Moss to recruit Neo to the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar, a hover craft crewed by a resistance force of humans trying to defeat the control of the machines. Is Neo the One?, the prophesised hero who will take back control from the machines, or is he just another guy ? The first half of the film is all about setting up the sceanario for the second half, Neo taking on the machines. Full of funky views on what is reality and a fairly grim view of the future, the Matrix is a movie about the love that grows between Neo and Trinity while in their struggle with the machines.

Review: In a summer that was supposed to be dominated by the new Star Wars movie, The Matrix took everyone by surprise. The trailers that I saw for it promised some cool looking effects and possibly a pop philosophy/existentialist subtext. Never before have I gone into a movie with expectations that were at a level so far below the level of the movie as I did for this one. This is one of the best movies to come out in a long time. I'll begin with the effects. Bluntly put, this movie represents the biggest jump in effects since a blue screen was first used. The creation of 'bullet time' allowed the 360 degree filming of stilled subjects. This is the greatest effect that I have seen in a long time. It's possibilities are endless. The movie's use of it in fight sequences made the fights better than most any I've ever seen. The only ones that are better are for sentimental reasons or pure skill, but the sequences in the Matrix look better than anything. This movie is also very full of style. Everyone is got up in black and wears sunglasses. You might think that this would seem gimmicky, but it works. Black trenchcoats have never looked better. As for the movie itself, the plot and subtext is phenomenal. You could teach a Philosophy 101 course based on the themes brought up in this movie. It has everything ranging from Utilitarianism and Hedonism to Nietzsche and the basic questions of metaphysical exploration. Even if you ignore all of this, on the surface it's a great Sci-fi/Action movie. The gunfights are great and Keanu is actually a good cast. Laurence Fishburne was a perfect cast for Morpheus and Carri-Ann Moss was great. If you get this, go for the Widescreen version. Otherwise, you miss so much. Definitely get this movie.

Summary: An awesome, millennial film
Review: In a time when many science fiction films (not to mention films in general) seem just regurgitated stories told before, THE MATRIX boldly stands out. This is high-concept, imaginative film-making, and though it has its share of requisite gun violence, the sheer momentum and scope of this movie overcome any wrinkles. Anyone claiming it has no content should read the (favorable) review that appeared in TRICYCLE: THE BUDDHIST REVIEW, a religious magazine! I loved this film. Not only does it say a lot about reality and how it is perceived and created in the mind, but it's also just plain cool. I place THE MATRIX right alongside my two other favorite sci-fi films, BLADE RUNNER and GATTACA. Grab your popcorn, turn out the lights, and be blown away.

Summary: What is the Matrix? A Great Movie.
Review: In a time when movie making is far from an intelligent, creative process and cookie cutter movies such as ridiculous love stories or really stupid comedies are everywhere, the Matrix comes along. Thank God. Or Neo. A very smart movie that is a visual special effects masterpiece. A movie that holds your attention throughout and on that you will want to watch again. I admit that through one viewing some people may not get the story because it can be a little confusing at times. My recommedeation: watch it again. The story is one that we have seen variations of before, where a character is a modern day savior or Jesus Christ if you will. But this is told in a very entertaining manner and is very well written. I know that this review is a little vague as to the overall story but that is the beauty of the movie and I would rather not spoil it for those who have not seen it yet. The best movie of 1999, American Beauty (which I also loved) included.
