Summary: Summer fun in a great DVD package
Review: One thing I hate is when studios put out multiple versions of the same movie and each package contains different features. New Line Cinema is doing this with Lord of the Rings. The same was done with Men in Black. Thankfully, with MIB most of the special features that were on the single disk version were included on the dual disk version, so I don't think I missed anything. However yet another version of this DVD is in the works. I'll be sticking with what I've already bought.
The movie itself is your typical summer blockbuster. It may not set new standards in story telling, but it is certainly a lot of fun with some good looking CGI special effects, something that's becoming a rarity these days. The acting in the movie is probably the most fun, especially the villain of the movie, and Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are great. The movie may be lacking in depth, but it is supposed to be an action comedy. So this is excusable. This film is worth the purchase, and the load of special features are more than enough to keep fans of the summer blockbuster genre busy for hours on end.

Summary: It's a bug-a-boo
Review: Every one is so busy watching Tommy Lee Jones make his stoic looks and Will making one-liners that they miss the person that hold it all together. In addition, that person has to do act throughout the movie in an Edgar suit. Have you ever tried one on? Vincent D'Onofrio has to look unnatural and act natural. This was one movie where I felt sorry for the bug. He even drops his snack (Linda Fiorentino) near the end. I just shows that bugs lead a hard life.
If you are into recent bug movies, look for "Out There" where they mention bugs in a rug

Summary: The dry wit of the commentary makes this a necessary buy
Review: The "Men in Black" Collector's Series DVD boasts the de rigeur CGI into and menus. They look great and provide access to a small wealth of hidden material, and the movie itself is great. Almost everyone reading this knows that already, so why belabor the point? This review is specific to one small facet of "bonus" material that influences every one of my DVD purchases 100% of the time: The Commentary.

Very simply put: together Tommy Lee Jones and Barry Sonnenfeld shine as a great tag-team of dry wit and companionship as they watch and play witness to their film again.

I love this movie, and bought the DVD specifically for the commentary. I was amazed to find that this is not the standard commentary that you get from almost every other DVD with boring technical specs and folks gushing over each other's performances, but instead is filled with so much subtle humor and good, personal vibes that it is much more interesting than the audio track that it subserviates and obscures. (The bicycle joke referencing "For Love or Money" is brilliant in its self-deprecation!) There are, of course, technical insights, but are buffered on all sides with a true concern with the movie and watchers -- very little of the standard "this scene was shot using a Claytometer lens and a forester-filter" kind of stuff that very few of us care about.

Putting the humor aside, the commentary track makes watching the movie feel like you're watching with a pair of good-humored uncles (well, I'm only 31, so it could happen). Tommy Lee Jones constantly mocks amazement as the plot progresses while providing insight and asking questions, and Barry Sonnenfeld mellows out and points out some incredibly interesting facts while never being anything more than an omniscient observer.

All in all, the humor within is refined, intelligent, and genteel, like what you would expect from an NPR broadcast. If you thought that Will Smith was the comedic powerhouse of the film, then you may not appreciate the commentary. If you recognize Tommy Lee Jones as the man with the best character and truly the best lines, then you should get this DVD and experience even more of his genius!

Summary: The best of Men in Black
Review: Men in Black was a great movie and the second one I think will be a blast! The first movie gave me the chills because I was 6 years old when I first saw it, but I did like it. I really hope
you put your minds to it and make me get the chills again!

Review: Will Smith ( fresh off the Success of Independence Day) stars in
" Men in Black", a Entertaining and Charming Science-Fiction Comedy with Wit and skill. This DVD has nice extras for a excellent movie such as commentary, Trailers, Behind the Scenes and more to please those who love this movie.

Summary: Fine Goofy Fun
Review: Much less serious than it's comic book origins, Men in Black takes a finely-keyed tone of action and ludicrousness, bolstered by some surprisingly fine performances. Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent D'Onofrio are standouts here, with standup support by Will Smith, Linda Fiorentino and Rip Torn. Great transfer to this DVD, with plenty of interesting goodies to boot. Good commentary by director Barry Sonnenfeld and Jones, with an intersting option to watch sillhouettes of them on the screen as Sonnenfeld uses a pen to point out things on the screen. Highly recommended DVD for showing off your player and large-screen TV to friends. And hey, really cool Rick Baker effects get squished reall good.

Summary: "3 stars is really being too kind"
Review: I like Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, but this movie really wasn't all that good to be honest. I don't think that actors with their reputations should have done a movie this silly.
