Summary: Sequel lives up to first...
Review: "Empire Strikes Back," "X-Men 2," "Terminator 2," "Lethal Weapon 2." What do these have in common? They are all sequels that live up to and succesfully complement the original. "Lethal Weapon 2" reunites us with Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Riggs (Mel Gibson) and adds a new character, Leo Getz (Joe Pesci) into the mix. The results are explosive and hilarious. While the first was mostly about the two characters and their lives, this is more about action and suspense. But the development of characters is still there and still very strong. The plot revolves around South African diplomats, who are conducting some bad business and yet can't be stopped due to diplomatic immunity. The action is very well executed and the story is about as good an action plot as you can get! I would strongly recommend this to any action fan.

Review: A lot of sequels are shameless retreads of earlier material with nothing new to explore or for the audience to experience. Then there are some sequels which are worthy of the original, and there are even few sequels which outshine the original. Lethal Weapon 2 is one of those. This first sequel in the "Lethal" series is from beginning to end a roller coaster ride of action, comedy, suspense and drama. It is more "Lethal Weapon" than the first film was.The story picks up a few years after the first film as Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as cops Riggs and Murtaugh. They are on the brink of busting a huge drug smuggling ring and are reassigned to protect a government informant named Leo Getz played by Joe Pesci who should have been considered for an Oscar in this performance. The introduction of the Getz character is the film's stroke of genius. In the first film Riggs and Murtaugh complained and bickered with each other. Now 2 years later the audience knows they are close friends, so bickering would seem unrealistic and a retread of the first film. They now have Getz to complain about and insult which gives the film many comic scenes. This action/adventure is as funny as a straight out comedy. While the action is more abundant this time it does not replace story or character development like in most sequels. This film pays great respect to the events in the first film by continuing the Riggs/Murtaugh friendship storyline and having them bond even more than before. Lethal Weapon 2 is everything what a great sequel should be.

Review: Although this one does not start out [like] the first movie it still has a good beggining that sucks you right in. But don't wrry just because there arn't [bosoms] in the beginging doesn't mean they wont show up later in the film. There is even more action in this film in the origial and Joe Peci was a great addition to it. "whatever you want Leo Getz! you get it?" classic.

Review: Another action romp with Gibson and Glover. The obligatory explosions, car chases, and plenty of shooting. Mel Gibson fans will enjoy this flick. Plenty of humor along with the action.

Review: Finally! The Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon 2 is out on DVD. I was hoping that the initial DVD release would include the restored moments, but I was set up for disappointment. Warner Brothers finally came around, though, so I've less reason to gripe now. Although I thought the second outing's theme was kinda preachy (the same deal would happen with the next two sequels), with a plot that involves an apartheid-supporting South African drug smuggling ring being protected under diplomatic immunity, it had some great action sequences. Who could forget the stilt-house takedown or the obligatory final fight between Riggs and the South African henchman? It also had some surprisingly amusing moments with LW newcomer Joe Pesci as informant and former mob accountant Leo Getz. His 'What They Do To You At The Drive-Thru' riff is to me the most memorable moment of all the Lethal Weapons, even more than the bomb-rigged toilet scene. Boy, Murtaugh's house doesn't seem to catch a break at all, does it? And, this being the Director's Cut and all, there's also the restored moments, like when Leo's figuring out out the stilt house's address using a complex numerology system. There's also the new snippet following the opening chase, where an LAPD mechanic puts Murtaugh's station wagon back together with a temporary hood, windshield, and duct tape. Priceless. Like the other two 'Lethal' TDC discs, this one doesn't have too many extra features. Just a theatrical trailer, a featurette showing how some of LW2's action sequences were set up, and cast & crew filmographies. Oh well, guess I just gotta throw on 'Lethal Weapon 3' instead... 'Late

Review: Gibson's got stamina, an ex-suicidal roman candle vietnam veteran who unleashes all his rage when Pleter Vorstedt said softly to him: "I pulled this mop of bloodsoaked hair to see this woman's face. Your wife, right?" Riggs lets all of hs fury loose on the cougar ants, to avenge the demise of his wife, (similar to Bruce Lee in the Chinese Connection) or angry that they might kill his Dutch sweetheart, such as when he iced that one guy, and said: "Master Race." Gover's married, three kids, worried that Riggs (Gibson) is going to get the two of them smoked like a hookah, but his nervousness gives him that deadly, bad boy angry attitude. For instance, when he picked up the nailgun and drilled those two South Africans, stops, takes a deep breath, and in a rugged, worn-out tone says: "Nailed 'em both!" Pesci's got an in-your-face, ranting, humorous personality, such as: "Everyone cheats a little bit, look at he Pentagon!" Or when he said: "See these these silk pajamas? Free!" Murtaugh replied: "It's not free, it's taxes paying for it!" "Oh, come on, it's the same thing, okay, okay?" By the way, is that Home Alone, or moan on the phone? O'Connor is pure evil, and builds up his anger, when Riggs is reading his diplomatic liscence, saying: "Ok, you're Vo-Vorsh-enofk, ah, forget it, I'll just call you Adolf. His appearence extremely wicked, and his delivery of his lines and the look in his eyes when he was spin-kicking Riggs in the face on the cruise is 100% demonlike.
