Review: Lucasdefinetly hit the bullseye this time, episode 1 was the best, most exciting movie of the year, and the 2nd best star wars film of all time (my fav is return of the jedi). The only mistake lucas made with episode 1 was JarJar, i really dont like him. A very good story line and great SFX. BUY THIS VIDEO!

Summary: A good, clean, fun adventure.
Review: Let's get this out of the way first, Episode 1 did lack the feeling of magic and wonder that the old films posessed. Now let's make an excuse. Episode 1 is set in a completely different time frame (40 years earlier I believe),with new (old?) characters and struggles that are entirely political, and thus action will not be heavy until the final confrontation at the end. This movie does not make a heavy first impression, but definitely DOES grow on you. Only recently when reflecting back on the film do I start to get the nostalgia I have with the other three. Sorry critics, but I think you'll find a healthy chunk of us found Jar Jar endearing. This film is good in the sense of a Saturday morning cartoon. It leaves you with a sigh of "well that was fun" at its end. Those who worry about it being too childish may have forgotten what it was like to be a child. I'm assuming that the lightness of this film can be accredited to the guaranteed darkness of the next two, which will have their own sets of critics. But in ten years, society will reflect back on all six and think : "Man, what a ride!"

Summary: Star Wars Upgraded
Review: A Prequel must move us from a trilogy that I watched from start to finish over 30 times and fit into the sequence as smoothly as possible. The Phantom Menace did that for me. Yes, there was some lack of a specific villian but it had to tie back into the trilogy and get us back to Darth Vader. We're there and ready for the next action packed movie. I intend to buy this on DVD and suggest that you consider the same action.

Summary: George Lucas had a dream, and a quite good one!
Review: Big Budget movies tend to have a history of being bad movies, but not Episode 1. The special effects of this movie were unlike that of any other. Liam Neeson did a spectacular job or portraying Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn. The only major disappointment regarding the characters was that Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu) had a very small role. Ewan McGregor did a quite nice job of playing the young padawan Obi Wan Kenobi. George Lucas definitely had a vision 23 years ago when he thought up the idea for Star Wars, and this movie reflects his idea quite nicely. It is without a doubt the best Star Wars movie yet. Even better than Empire Strikes back.

Summary: It's a whole lot of fun
Review: For those of us who remember to just have fun and enjoy a good old fashioned swashbuckler this movie has it all. Ewan Mcgregor does a fantastic job bringing us a young Obi-Wan Kenobi and Natalie Poortman is wonderful as the young queen forced into a confrontation out of her control. Hey! I even loved Jar Jar Binks! For those who think he's annoying, try watching a Chris O'donnell flick. These movies were never meant to save the world. They're meant to remind us all to be kids and have fun. You want reality? Watch the news. Enjoy it!

Summary: Lame, amateurish movie by a great film maker
Review: This movie is all hype. I tried not to get excited about seeing the movie so that I would not expect too much, but finally I did watch it. I would give this movie two stars if it were not for the fact that it was a Lucas film. This movie is not half as good as any other Lucas film including Willow. The dialogue is terrible and none of the characters are sympathetic. Young Annakin is the worst character of them all. Jar Jar Binks is the worst creation in the history of computers. He is not funny at all and he doesn't look real either. Am I the only person who thought the special effects were terrible? The entire battle scene was boring and fake. I can not enjoy a movie if the characters have no personality. Little kids may like this, but I'm sure they would prefer the original star wars trilogy. This movie makes me wonder if George Lucas really cares about making a good movie, or if he is just in it for the billions and billions of dollars the movie will make.

Summary: Glorious eye-candy and very little else besides.
Review: Years before the Empire was formed, the Republic send two Jedi knights to deal with tax problems.It was nice to see the Star Wars opening theme again after all these years, and there are cameo appearances throughout the film by characters such as the Jabba the Hutt, Yoda, etc. The soon-to-be emporer is present, is a well-acted and marvellously scheming character. But the main problem with this film is that the aliens are on the level of cartoon characters. Some people found the Ewoks silly, but they're far more believable than the 'Muppet Show 1999' on display here. And the 'big fish eaten by bigger fish eaten by still bigger fish' sequence is straight out of a comic strip. Another problem is the fact that this film is so obviously based around commercialism. The hundreds of different kinds of aliens are present to sell toys, the pod race is there to sell a video game. In fact a lot of this film felt like watching somebody playing a video game. The actors play second fiddle to CGI effects, are hardly ever given the chance to show any real character. Darth Maul is well-designed and looks impressive, but is just wasted in a minor role. Certainly worth seeing if you're a Star Wars fan, but once you've seen it once there's no reason to ever watch it again.

Summary: The elders wanted it - but it's made for the younger crowd
Review: George was trying too hard to make this film accessible to kids. But he must have known that everyone who spent 10 years of wondering (and an additional 6 years eagerly awaiting, once Lucas' outlines were leaked on the Internet in '94) was his "target market." This film is still a marvel. However, I wonder if Lucas will gloss over the imminent genocide in Episode 3 with more cute characters a la Jar Jar Binks. Genocide is not something you can gloss-over, George. I pray that Episode 3 is a dark and gritty film for teens and adults only. Lucas definately needs help in the screenplay department. In the meantime, we should enjoy the two sequences on Episode I that will stand the test of time: The Pod Race, and the final lightsaber duels. Amazing stuff!

Review: When I went to see the movie, I had high expectations. I hadenjoyed the first three films and thought this would be as good. I wassadly disapointed. The only good thing in the whole movie was the pod racing scene. It had better effects, but lacked the same plot, suspence and character that the three older films had.

Review: I must admit the first time I saw the movie I was so hyped up with anticipation that all the movie could do was leave me with a feeling of disappointment. I am an avid follower of Star Wars and followed every move of the pre-production notes. I decided to see the movie a second time and enjoyed the film much more so than the first time. Watch it once and you miss a lot because things move so fast. Watch it for a second or third time and you begin to love it. Despite the lack of character development of Qui-Gon and Obi Wan, it definetely lives up to the Star Wars name. The only reason I give this movie 3-stars instead of 4 or 5 is because of Anakin. Put in a kid as the focus of a movie and you usually end up disappointed by their lack of acting skills. Episode II should prove much better - the kid is grown up and you can focus more on the Dark Side. Just please don't ruin part II by casting Leonardo DiCaprio.
