Summary: Greatest achievment ever!
Review: Ignore all the obnoxious people who want to rain on your parade! With Liam Neeson as the heart and soul of this film, the acting is right up there with the special effects and soundtrack! If your a true Star Wars fan, you can't be dissapointed!

Summary: CGI-laden live cartoon.
Review: For those of you who aren't aware of the Star Wars saga (if such people exist), this is a prequel to the other three films, taking place some years before 'A New Hope', and telling the story of the beginnings of Anakin Skywalker.

Some people might have thought "it hasn't got Han Solo, Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker in it so it won't be as good". These people can now give themselves a modest pat on the back.

Certainly this film is entertaining and has countless, amazingly detailed, CGI effects. It's just a pity the characters aren't quite so sensational. The two jedi knights sleepwalk through the whole thing, the briefly-seen famous actors are never given a chance to act and the aliens are idiotic video-game characters. There are a few good characters. Palpatine is wonderfully scheming and Darth Maul is well-designed, despite being underused.

But the endless merchandise we're currently awash with only goes to prove that this film is about money. If you're a dedicated Star Wars fan it might be worth a look, but if I were you I'd be content with the first three films.

Summary: See my review below...
Review: I was very impressed with this film. I am not sure why others feel it was the worst of the year...I feel it was one of the two best. I have heard many negative reviews of this movie to the effect that it was "nothing like the other three". Well OF COURSE IT WAS'NT! It wasn't supposed to be! I totally agree with the person who felt that it was different from the others to offset the tragedies that must occur in Episode 3. Keep in mind that much happens between Episodes 1 and 4, including wars and everything else. As for the notion that George Lucas lost something between the other three and this one, I say au contraire! If anything, Mr. Lucas is much more skilled at movie-making this time around, and the film is much slicker and much more proffessional looking. The effects were incredible, and Lucas still has the knack for coming up with new characters, such as the destroyer droids. If another director had thought those up, his entire movie would have revolved around them; with George Lucas, they were just a good idea surrounded by several other good ideas. Now, I must agree that there may have been a little too much comic relief, and I certainly have no love for Jar-Jar Binks; but if you will think about it hard enough, you will realize that there were even elements in each one of the "perfect" first three movies that made you cringe (Anyone remember the stupid 'Tarzan' yell that Chewbacca does when swinging onto the AT Chicken-Walker in Episode 6? Point proved). The fight choreography in this film is sheer genius compared with the others, and I could go on about it forever...just suffice to say that whatever cons this movie may have, the pro's outweigh them to an incomprehensible degree. I would definitely recommend this film. It is well worth your time. George Lucas is the Shakespeare of our time.

Summary: Bottom Line, the film doesn't work with the first trilogy
Review: It's hard to believe that the films sequal from 1977 has loopholes, or perhaps Lucas accidently made loopholes, who cares, the film doesn't work. First off, kill Jar Jar, comic relief, he help kill the film, and since when do aliens seem so cultural, you know Japaneese accents, even Jamican. The film seemed to computorized, note to Lucas, every stinking thing in the film doesn't have to be computor animated. Then C-3P0, Ha! If Anikan is a slave boy, then how could he build a robot in which there are other types of the same kind. And wouldn't C-3P0 know that vadar was his builder. And I though Ben said that the force is in everyliving thing, yeah, were going to test for the force. Hey, the podrace sceen, annoying, who needs {or wants to} see ten minuets of people racing. Perhaps it is true, if you don't do any real projects {I know that the special edition was a project, but it was just to release great films to a generation that saw deteriating films} you do lose your talent, the only thing good about this film is the Wierd Al song.

Summary: Star Wars or Star Bores!
Review: From the opening scene i realised that this film was absolutely nothing like the other star war films that have been made;which contained excitement power and sometimes even emotional scenes. After watching this film i was disappointed to say the least as it had definately not lived up to its high expectations. This is not a film i would recommend to others.

Summary: The Year of Blockbusters
Review: Every year, and sometimes not, there is one movie that makes you go "WOW", fortunately this year there were two fantastic movies one being The Matrix, the other one being The Phamtom Menace. The special effects and the flawed 'superhero' type rescuer Qui-Gon gives us, the movie goers, a bundle of action and success that succed in making this flick completely amazing. The first time I saw this movie I walked out with a smile because I had enjoyed myself so much. If I was either reminiscing an old childhood folk tale or if I was just attached to the storyline, one thing is for certain I had not had so much fun since Empire Strikes Back: Special Edition(which is my favorite Episode). This movie was very well presented and I actually loved it more than the Matrix. My only complaint is why isn't it coming out on DVD? And I mean a reasonable explanation not that George Lucas wants to release an entire box set in 2050.

Summary: Nice and cute film.
Review: You gonna love it if you are a Star Wars fan. Its somehow more cute than it should be, but still, it's fun and exciting.

Summary: Sure is purty but ain't that smart...
Review: As a little boy, I remember circling the tree in my front yard with all of the neighborhood kids and discussing the latest Star Wars film. (I did this a few times- just years apart...) I beat myself senseless to get tickets to opening night. At the end of the movie, my 11 friends that I had rallied around me, stood anxiously at the entrance to the theater. They were waiting for my reaction and wouldn't make a peep until I'd given them the go ahead. "I have waited 20 some-odd years for THAT." Once the floodgate was opened, similar comments poured forth for hours. This time, we went and shared the latest Star Wars entry over a beer and I can honestly say that not one person in the group had a positive thing to say. I enjoyed the movie visually but then again I enjoyed Independance Day and Godzilla VISUALLY. Guess I can finally get rid of my original Star Wars Toys...

Summary: Farewell to Star Wars, its enchantment undone for good
Review: Twenty minutes of this show was enough to leave me bored and free from my years of keeping the earlier installments for canvas of my mind.

The newest installment revealed the flaws of the original plot, with its sick and ujust division of all and everything onto pitch black and dazzling white, either hellish or heavenish with no middle tones, no human complication, no humane warmth. The author's imagination was off the rocker a little bit initially, and it turned out to be touching then, but now it's like 98 years old former fashion model in the pool -- overall outlines are still there, but I'd rather look the other way.

Reading the script added more insult to the injury -- it's plainly stupid. Take all special effects and visual beauty away and there's nothing left. Your average sunset on the Pacific Ocean gives me much more inspiration.

Summary: Remember - It's Just A Movie
Review: Let's remember what Lucas said in an interview shortly after the release of Phantom Menance - "it's just a movie". Do I miss Luke and Han? Yes, of course. Remember though that this film is set forty years before "A New Hope". Lucas is trying to lay down the events that led to the other films and is building a groundwork for the next two installments. If you have to think a little and mentally "connect the dots" well, I think that makes for a better story (like a good book) - not everything is laid out for you and you are forced to read between the lines (kind of like watching office politics). I'd see the film again. The special effects and the soundtrack were fantastic. I'm buying the video in widescreen (I wish it was on DVD). I can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds. Please, no more Jar Jar, though.
