Rating: Summary: If only a few years earlier... Review: The problem with A View To A Kill is that Roger Moore wasn't a fast running man anymore. Time passes even for James Bond. The history has its good points, some memorable shoots (firetruck in San Francisco, chasing Grace Jones on Paris and others), but the action is in somewhat slow motion. Not what you would expect from a Bond movie. The DVD is fine, as all the others on this series, with interesting extras. Would've benn much better if Moore were a few year younger.
Rating: Summary: A View to a Kill Review: First off let me tell you "A View to a Kill" is one of the best Bond films of all time! Give Roger Moore some credit, the man did his best at his age. It's not like he made the call to star in yet another 007 film. It's known that if the producers of the film did'nt want him there, they could of got someone else! They did'nt and Moore turned in one of the best performances of his Bond career. Tanya Roberts was sub-par, but she was pretty, not as pretty as Talisa Soto in "License to Kill", but pretty none the less. Walken as "Zorin" was outstanding! His plot was brillient, and with the help of "Mayday", he almost had it all. This movie had me thinking the whole time, and that's a good thing considering that I always know where Bond movies are going. This is a must see for Bond fans. Moore gives everything he's got left, and it's worth seeing! Thrilling, witty, and eventful "A View to a Kill" is a must see among Bond movies!
Rating: Summary: A View to a Kill Review: I thought"A View to a Kill" was action packed and it kept my intrest to the end. The plot was great, the villins were sinister, and most of all: it was Roger Moore's last outing as Bond...James Bond! let me be one of the few that think Moore further secured his place in the Bond files! Even I know that This was NOT Moore's best performance but, with Walken putting on a splendid show, "A View to a Kill" is a classic among Bond films. I don't see why this film takes so much heat. If you look at "Live and Let Die" (Moore's best outing) he had the same suspect acting (the fight in the alley in Harlem) that he had in this film. Moore was always the Bond that needed his stunt-men and extra's most! With that in mind, I thought for his age, the great screen-play by Walken(like always) and a solid performance by Grace Jones, add the best sound track of all the Bond films, "A View to a Kill" is one of the greatest Bond films of all time!
Rating: Summary: The worst of them all, what a tragedy. Review: 'A View to a Kill' I am sorry to say is the worst bond film in the entire series. It is such a shame that Roger Moore had to bring his great reign as 007 to such a dreadful end. I like most people, believe he should have departed with 1983's 'Octopussy', an excellent bond film and one of Moore's best, it would have been a great send-off. However that was not to be and Roger Moore played James Bond 007 for the 7th and last time in 1985. The problem I had was believing in Moore's character this time, at 57 years old he was way past playing the role, he also seems to have aged alot in the two years since 'Octopussy', more than any of his other bond films in the past. You can tell he has had loads more make-up applied to him than in previous films, as well as the excessive use of stuntmen (just look at the car chase in Paris near the start of the film, where the car gets broken in two). Another problem is the bond girl, Tanya Roberts, the worst in the entire bond series and her acting is incredibly poor, all she seems to do is scream throughout the whole film. 'A View to a Kill' was also far too long, and for the first time ever (in a bond film) I began to get bored about half way through. Anyway, I have given the film '2' stars for its soundtrack, which is pretty good, but not one of John Barry's best (check out 'Octopussy', 'From Russia With Love' and 'The Living Daylights' for Barry's best scores). You never know, had Roger Moore retired at the end of 'Octopussy', and had Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan taken over as 007 in 'A View to a Kill', maybe it would have been much improved?
Rating: Summary: One of the best in the Bond series! Review: Featuring an outstanding theme song (performed by Duran Duran), the gorgeous Tanya Roberts (the most beautiful of the Bond girls in my humble opinion) and outstanding performances by Christopher Walken (Zorn, a psychotic industrialist who plots to dominate the world's micro-chip supply and kill millions in the process) and Grace Jones (Zorn's sidekick). In settings from the Swiss Alps to the Eiffel Tower to the Golden Gate Bridge, Roger Moore displays the same characteristic wit and charm which have made him one of the best Bonds. This was my favorite of the Bond series.
Rating: Summary: A bad departure for Roger Moore as he leaves behind 007 Review: Roger Moore was excellent for playing James Bond his humor and personna kept the chracter going strong over the course of the 70's, but all good things must come to an end too bad "A VIEW TO A KILL" had to be Moore's last bond film he went out looking tired and it seemed very clearly he was getting too old to play the role of an secret agent. Even the action scenes were getting tiresome with the opening credits when Bond was being pursued by Russian Agents down the mountain on skis isthe same scene that was done in "THE SPY WHO LOVED ME" And what's with having the Beach Boys song "CALIFONRA GIRLS" blaring in the background when Bond was racing with a snowmobile, The producers were trying to add a touch of humor but i thought it was totally moronic. Christopher Walken as the villan Maz Zorin, an psychopathic industrilist who's also a renagade KGB Agent who has plans to blow up Slicon Valley, the largest producer of the micro chip and leaving him total control of the market. Walken's performence is neither great or memorable with his fluffy white/blondish hair he looks too much of a cartoon chracter to be taken serisouly. MAY DAY played by Grace Jones Walken's deadly muscular assitant/lover is well cast in her role she should of been the main villan then this film might of been more worthwhile. As for the bond girl Tanya Roberts has to go down as one of the stupidist bond girls ever makes Mary Goodnight the bond girl from THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN" More intelligent. The only thing that keeps this film barly alive is some good stunt work during a chase on the effiel tower through the streets of paris. A pitiful and terrible departure for Roger Moore ending his unforgetable legacy as 007 with this embarssment to the ledgendary series.
Rating: Summary: A View to a Kill Review: The final outing of Roger Moore as James Bond and his weakest. An exciting teaser is followed by a mudane plot with less than adequate villans, uninteresting ladies, and lame action sequences (a steeple chase sequence and escaping from a burning building, not exactly up to the usual Bond standard). Thankfully the climax of Bond battling Zorin atop the Golden Gate Bridge, accompanied by John Barry's exciting score, is worth the price of the DVD. This DVD also includes an extra "The Music of James Bond" paying tribute the the great works of John Barry, Shirley Bassey, David Arnold and others. It is worth adding to your shopping cart for the teaser and climax sequences.
Rating: Summary: We Miss You, Roger Moore Review: A viewer below mentioned how the scene where Roger Moore carries Tanya Roberts out of City Hall reminded him of a time when heroes were heroes. I could not agree more. "A View to a Kill" is not the best film out there, I admit, but to me, it is more than just a movie. It marks the end of the genre of the classic Hollywood hero. There are heroes today, but those actors also do comedies, dramas, and other types of movies. Roger Moore is the truly the last cinematic hero. Some of his films are not perfect (nobody's are), but his name alone is associated with action and adventure. You see his name in the credits, and you know that you're in for some sort of spectacle. For me, Roger Moore belongs up their with the likes of Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Guys like Pierce Brosnan and Nicholas Cage are good, but I know they're acting. Moore was a natural. He was the last actor that you believed WAS the character. They don't make them like that anymore. That's why I love "A View to a Kill." Not so much for its content, but for what it is.
Rating: Summary: Actually 2 1/2 Stars Review: A View to a Kill was Roger Moore's last Bond film.It wasn't a bad movie, but it just wasn't up to par with others.(My personal favorite of Moore's was The Spy Who Loved Me,A View to a Kill ranks right behind Moonraker at the bottom)It seemed at times like the actors were just going through the motions.I didn't really care much for Max Zorin as a Bond villain,he just wasn't all that scary.I did, however, like the charactor of May Day.I also liked Tibbet, although he didn't last very long.As for Stacy Sutton,I thought she was very pretty, but not a very good Bond girl. The film had a good musical score by John Barry(It sort of reminded me of On Her Majesty's Secret Service at times),and the title song by DuranDuran was excellent.Overall it was an okay movie, but as a Bond film it probably has to be my least favorite. The DVD is very good with lots of extra features.
Rating: Summary: Zero stars if that is possible Review: This film was so bad it is the only James Bond DVD I refuse to have in my collection. I love the series - with the exception of the cheesy Moonraker and the rather dull and lifeless Man With the Golden Gun - but this film is start to finish a complete waste of time, talent, money, and celluloid. Roger Moore looks like he is years past the age when he should be out chasing super-villains like Christopher Walken and the funky Grace Jones. Tanya Roberts never really did much of anything beyond Charlie's Angels, this film and Sheena. Duran Duran's title song is likewise a clunky bore. At least Octopussy had a bit of style and something along the lines of a story. This is just a pale sad retread of what is possibly the second best Bond film - Goldfinger. (From Russia With Love is still the best.) View is one of those rare films that could only be improved during editing with lighter fluid and a match. You have to wonder if some of the people writing the favorable reviews here work for MGM or have some vested interest in the success of the disc. There is no other logical explanation. Go with almost any other Bond film. View is the pits.
