Summary: The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD Box Set is truly great!
Review: The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD Box Set includes all three films: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade. You also get a Bonus Disc with over 3 hours of bonus materials such as: A new feature-length documentary of the making of the trilogy From the Lucasfilm Archives, The Stunts of Indiana Jones, The Sound of Indiana Jones, The Music of Indiana Jones, The Light and Magic of Indiana Jones, Original trailers, Weblink to exclusive content including dozens of behind-the-scenes photos, an animatic sequence from Raiders, and a PC game preview. What is best about this collection is that all three films are in their original format, but are restored and digitally remastered frame by frame giving the best possible picture quality that these films have ever been seen in. The picture quality is so good that it makes you feel like you are watching a movie that was made not to long ago no matter what size of TV screen you are watching this collection on. The sound is now presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital, which gives even more new life in to each of these films. I can say that The Adventures of Indiana Jones DVD Box Set is a wonderful edition to any fan, or movie collectors collection. I could not ask for a better Christmas gift.

Summary: GREAT, but there's one problem!
Review: What movie collection is complete without Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' classic INDIANA JONES TRILOGY?

I must say it has been a long wait for this, and all three films RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE all look great in widescreen format, and as always for the DVD the picture and sound quality is great. Action and adventure at its' very finest and a definite forerunner for many other films to follow. The fourth "Making of" Documentary disk is another real treat and is a great behind the scenes on the evolution of the three films.

The only disappointment I have is there is no audio commentary accessible during for the films, except for the usual Spanish or French audio. This isn't too relevant but, TEMPLE OF DOOM being released in 1984 would have made it's 20th ANNIVERSARY by 2004. Would it not have made sense to have waited until next year for its' 20th Anniversary release? 1984-2004. I mean it's better than a 19th ANNIVERSARY - 1984-2003! That's how I heard they were going to be released at first - one at a time. Therefore TEMPLE OF DOOM in 2004, and LAST CRUSADE in 2005. Oh well!

BUY IT!

Summary: FINALLY!
Review: I love the great movies of the 80's and it's a real treat to find some of the giants of the era finally getting released on DVD. The Indiana Jones trilogy was a defining cinematic event of the 80's and spanned nearly the entire decade. Along with Rambo, Robocop and many other big titles that became household words with entire franchises built around them. Just hearing the classic theme music from the trilogy will trigger memories, and that classic indiana jones hat is instanly recognizable.

The entire Trilogy is great. Harison Ford plays Dr Indiana Jones, an edventurer/archaeologist who gets himself in some pretty amazing situations. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the first movie (released I believe in 1982) th film was the brain child of Stevel Spielberg (the great director) and George Lucas (Creator of Star Wars). The movie practically defined the adventure movie genre, with lots of cliffhanger scenes, suspence and action, all while staying light-hearted and humorous.

"Temple of Doom" was the second film of the three, and was slightly darker than the other two, while the final movie has indiana searching for the Holy Grail (released in 89) with his long lost father. From fighting Nazi's to running from giant bolders, the action kept audiences of the time on the edge of thier seats. Each movie has more than one scene which will stick in your mind forever as just unforgettable (IE the scene where jones shoots the guy with the sword).

The whole trilogy had a lot of style too. The 2nd and third movie made many referrences back to the first two (indiana's fear of snakes, the sword guy getting shot scene was spoofed in the second movie etc). The movies all had a lot of character and charm I guess you could say.

All 3 movies are perfectly remastered for DVD, picture wuality and sound are excellent. Also we are treated to a bunch of bonus material - in fact, a whole DVD's worth of it! Including a 50 minute documentary for EACH film and a bunch more stuff. Not only that but I was so happy to see that this trilogy (like the rambo and back to the future trilogies) were released in both widescreen AND FULL SCREEN formats! This edition being fullscreen, so those of us not planning on buying widescreen tvs this decade, wont have to stare at the black bars! Unfortunatley, unlike the rambo trilogy, you must buy one edition or the other (Rambo included both widescreen AND fullscreen editions together in one set - whic really is the best value).

Still this release is excellent in every sense of the word and the movies themselves are americana at is's best. They will always remain part of pop culture and the public love for all three films wont die out any time soon.

Summary: Worth the wait!
Review: Like many "Indiana Jones" fans, I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the trilogy on DVD for a long time. Few other movies deserve the DVD treatment more than these amazing films. But after getting the DVD set, I knew it was well worth the wait.

Being too young to have seen the first two films in the movie theater, and only having viewed them on TV, it was a treat to see the movies with superb picture and sound quality, and in the same picture ratio as they were originally filmed (which is why I recommend that everyone get the widescreen version, even if you have a regular TV). It's great to finally have quality versions of all three films to keep and view for years to come.

The extras are great, and are put on a separate DVD so they're easy to find (instead of having to search through three separate DVD's). The DVD has some of the best "making of" documentaries I've ever seen. They're really informative and fun to watch, and are never overly-promotional like many of the other "making of" documentaries I've seen on other DVD's. The documentaries give an honest look at the creation and legacy of the films, with interviews with a broad cross-section of cast and crew members. Though the documentaries were good, I would have loved to see audio commentaries by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for all three films, as well as deleted scenes. But these are minor complaints, and overall the DVD set is excellent. It's a must-have for any "Indy" fan!

Review: After some blinding lowlights this has got to be one of my Christmas highlights. This is a stonking great package.Three great movies in one package. I like them all with raiders getting the edge. You dont get much better than this except of cause for the Lord of The Rings. But this is close runner up. Picture and sound have been reproduced so as you would be hard to tell it wasnt made recently. This wops it right up the likes of tomb raider and charlies angels which will never stand the test of time these 3 movies have. 5 star entertainment, nuff said.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I received this as a Christmas present, in the Fullscreen, not Widescreen , format. I am a movie buff, and I know that Widescreen is generally superior. Yet, and I say this honestly, it is a testament to this dvd box set that I have never considered taking this version back. I havent seen the Widescreen dvd's yet, but the fullscreen is so excellent that I am absolutely in no rush. With such spectacular sound and picture reproduction, who can possibly complain? No matter what format you might obtain it in, this set is a winner all around. Best box set ever. Period. The end. Go Indy!!!

Summary: The Ultimate Movie Experience!
Review: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981)

In 1977, following the release of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, Steven Spielberg was vacationing in Hawaii with his friend George Lucas, who had just broke the record for the highest-grossing movie of all-time with STAR WARS. Steven expressed his desire to direct a James Bond movie. Lucas told him not-to-bother with the Bond franchise and that he had a better project: Indiana Jones. Spielberg loved the idea and agreed to direct the movie and Lucas would produce it. They hired Lawrance Kasdan to write the script of Indiana Jones. In 1979, Steven Spielberg released "1941", who failed at the box-office and George Lucas was producing THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK when the script for Indiana Jones was finally finished. It was called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, Spielberg and Lucas both loved it and they took the script to many studios who passed on it. It was Paramount Pictures who took the risk of financing such a big project. The movie was given a $22 million budget and casting began. At first, it was Tom Selleck who was given the lead part of Indiana Jones, but the pilot he had shot for CBS was picked up and he had to retire from the project to make the TV show MAGNUM P.I.Steven Spielberg and George Lucas then hired Harrison Ford, who already knew George Lucas from the STAR WARS movies. They hired Kate Capshaw to play the lead female role and production began on RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK in the summer of 1980. The movie was very difficult to make, but they got it make and the studios loved it. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was released on June 12th, 1981 and grossed $242 million domestically, becoming the biggest hit of 1981. Not only it launched the career of Harrison Ford who prooved that he could do something more than STAR WARS and it put Steven Spielberg back on the hot directors list that he had left since the release of "1941". Spielberg and Lucas then agreed to make two sequels to RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK whenever they would have time.

INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984)

The first Indiana Jones movie called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was a $242 million box-office hit, so it was almost certain that Spielberg and Lucas would make a sequel. After the gigantic success of E.T.THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL in 1982, Steven Spielberg started to work on the Indiana Jones sequel that would be more darker and violent than the first movie. Harrison Ford was re-hired as Indiana Jones and so as Kate Capshaw for the lead- female role. George Lucas finished producing RETURN OF THE JEDI and in the summer of 1983, they all got back together to make a sequel. The movie was called INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM and people were expecting a lot from this movie especially Paramount Pictures. When INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM was released on May 23rd, 1984, some critics were disappointment of the movie saying that it was too dark and violent. Steven Spielberg fought with the MPAA who wanted to give the movie an R-rating, but Spielberg and Lucas didn't give up and finally they got a PG-13 rating. INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM grossed $179,9 million at the box-office, it was less than RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Spielberg who defended his movie at first, finally apologized for the violence and told the parents not-to-bring kids under 10 years old. Although it was a good sequel, it didn't beat RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989)

After the release and bad reviews of INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM in 1984, Spielberg and Lucas waited a couple of years to release the third and final installment of the Indiana Jones trilogy. Spielberg directed two movies: THE COLOR PURPLE in 1985 and EMPIRE OF THE SUN in 1987. This movie would have to be better than the second installment or the movie would fail. So, Steven and George fot back to the old recipe of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, which was mixing comedy with action. They re-hired Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and they hired Sean Connery as Indy's father. The movie was given a $37 million budget and production started on INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE in the summer of 1988. The movie was release on May 24th, 1989 to great reviews and $197,2 million at the box-office. The trilogy was complete and in 2004, production for Indiana Jones 4 is to begin. The DVD collection is a must-have collection for everyone.

Summary: INCREDIBLE package!
Review: What a gem! This is what all DVD box sets should aspire to. I have not one complaint. I bought this set and was thrilled. What I hadn't counted on was the awesome picture clarity and the sound. Each film is in 5.1 Dolby surround, with a super-clean image.

I use a Samsung DVD player on a Toshiba HDTV running progressive scan, and let me tell you - these three films look superb! I am one happy happy customer indeed!

I love Indiana Jones. I grew up with this series and it's a big part of my personal film vocabulary. These films were so "neat" [for lack of a better word]. They are an interesting experiment that totally works. They are now a legacy and I cannot wait for Indy 4 in 2005.

Don't hesitate to buy this DVD set: it's well worth every single penny! Great job mastering three great movies.

Summary: Yep, we waited and waited...
Review: ....and I have bought way too many VHS copies of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I even bought it on the short lived RCA CED discs. Well, the DVD's have been cleaned up and look mighty fine on the home screen. I thought I had it made when I got the VHS widescreen and compared it to my original VHS crapola pan and scan, but of course I had to have Indy on DVD. I haven't seen Temple of Doom yet as I like the other two much better.

Of course, the bonus disc has the interesting behind the scenes and making of bits, it is still a letdown to have no director comentaries from Spielberg. Everybody must take note of LOTR to see how the ultimate DVD's are made. I would take off a star when compared to any LOTR sets, but I do like Raiders and all the items associated with it, so I'll give it 5 stars anyway.
