Rating: Summary: Great Sequel Review: First, please see my review for Rocky I:"I sometimes wonder how many people under the age of twenty-five have never taken the time to view this film. I would hope the number is low. This is a movie that can inspire anyone, not just boxers or athletes. This movie is about taking that "one" shot, many of us sometimes get, and doing something with it - really using that chance. Rocky is a film about overcoming what seems to be impossible odds with sheer character; a simple mind does not equal a simple soul, and as Rocky Balboa clearly demonstrates - when you get the shot you've always dreamed of, make it worth every second. Sylvester Stallone did just that - he wrote a novel about getting that one big shot, and it became his one big shot. The actor, director, and producer takes a lot of ridicule from the artsy-fartsy crowd but most of that is just plain jealousy; a forceps delivery left Stallone with a speech impediment, but his brain is just fine. As another reviewer stated recently, if by some chance a person has not seen this film, they need to - it is in a class by itself." Okay, now make all of that ditto for Rocky II. This sequel is just as good as the first installment. Apollo Creed feels that Rocky just got lucky in their first bout, and after a ton of hate-mail arrives on the champ's doorstep, he decides he wants a rematch with Rocky Balboa. But Rocky's wife, Adrian, wants him to live a normal non-boxing life. This movie is a little deeper than the first one. My favorite part is when Mick (Rocky's trainer) tells Rocky they should go knock Apollo's "block" (head) off, and Rocky agrees, and they set out to start training again. After you've see the first one, the second installment is a must! See ya next review. www.therunninggirl.com
Rating: Summary: Interesting , But Not Engrossing Review: I hadn't seen any Rocky films since I was a kid (which was many years ago now) but lately I've been going back and watching them after being compelled to buy the original film on DVD. It can be interesting to see if you can still get the same thrill from a movie after you've grown up and developed more sophisticated tastes.
My verdict for ROCKY II is unfortunately different than what it was twentysome years ago. From the very start of the film as we watch the ambulances rush our two contenders to the hospital, what we hear is a totally dreadful 70's style soundtrack which was horribly inappropriate!... and the music didn't get much better from there! As I was watching the film, even though I felt it was interesting to see the changes in Balboa's life after his bout with Creed, this movie just seemed to go through the motions without truly drawing you in the way the original did. And what happened to Apollo Creed? We all saw Apollo as an honorable opponent in the first film, but there seems to be a personality shift. In ROCKY II, we don't know him or even care about him anymore because he was made out to be a villian this time around. Why? And as for the training segment and the rematch itself, it was like a rehash of the first film, but without really absorbing us or inspiring us the way the original did.
By no means would I discourage anyone from watching this movie because it is after all a continuation of the first film, which left us with a lot of unanswered questions. My simple advice is this: Don't compare it to the original like I did and maybe you'll like it better.
Rating: Summary: The best Rocky film sequel classic in history! Review: I have this movie because I only have it on VHS. It's a good film that i've ever seen in a long time. The story continues from where the original 1976 first one left off!Back again in this 1979 sequel is Sly Stallone as the italian stallion boxer Rocky Balboa. Talia Shire as his wife Adriene, Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed. Burt Young as Rocky's brother Paulie. And Burgess Meredith as Rocky's boxing manager Mickey. From all these characters it's what makes this motion picture so special because of the fighting match scene between Balboa and Creed in here I like!
Rating: Summary: Rocky II-Good Solid Sequel(but more of a rehash) Review: Probably, this is the best of the sequels as it is a good, solid follow up to the excellent original. It is a sequel in every sense of the word as it picks up right where the last one ended. There really, however, is nothing new in this one. The situations that the particulars go through change(Rocky now married to Adrian, baby on the way, new apartment, Rocky taking blue collar job in meat-packing industry, Paulie working at Rocky's old job as collector), but the story is the same. It is another million-to-one shot(only this time, there is a danger that one more drastic punch could lead to blindness), with Rocky again being trained by Mickey for a rematch with Apollo Creed. Exciting training & fight scenes deliver the action and there is that same sense of good old fashioned human drama, but we have been through all of this before(read my review of ROCKY I).Followed by the silly, but entertaining ROCKY III, the cold-war tale of ROCKY IV(even sillier, but still fun), and an interesting final(is it?) to the series, ROCKY V(John G. Avildsen directs).
Rating: Summary: A Great Story Part II Review: Rocky and Rocky II are movies in which every parent should show to their kids. These two really capture the meanings of life and the hardships it can bring. But the messages these films provide are priceless! As I said, these movies should be shown to every school kid across the country with the messages in the film being if you work hard, have heart and determination, and aren't afraid to get what you want out of life, you can become successful! Truely these are powerful messages that today's stupid movies don't in the least portray. Overall it is a great movie that a anyone who is a fan of movies should see!
Rating: Summary: Good as the first one!!! Review: Rocky II is a great film. In this movie, Rocky gets married to his girlfriend, Adrinne. Apollo wants to have a rematch with Rocky. Mickey tries to help Rocky but is to busy with things. Adrinnie wants Rocky to win. Will he?
Rating: Summary: "Yo Adrian...I did it !" Review: Rocky II is the best in the Rocky movie sequels.
Released 3 years after the Oscar winning original Rocky, the movie takes place right after the exciting fight between our hero, Rocky, and the champion of the world Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers.
The difference between Rocky in the first and Rocky here is that now Rocky has become famous for going the distance against the champ, recieves a nice chunk of cash for the fight which he spends on a new house and unnecessary clothes and items, and is getting offers to appear in commercials, which he does. However, the fact that he cannot read results in the rejection from the director of the advertisements, rejection from employers to hire him, and his failure to obtain an 'office job'. Rocky finds himself struggling to keep a job, especially after his now wife Adrian, played by Talia Shire, becomes pregnant. Rocky finally returns to work for Mickey, his trainer, in the gym where Rocky has now become 'royalty'.
In the original Rocky, Rocky had to deal with being a nobody struggling to make a voice for himself, in Rocky II, he has to deal with swallowing his pride and keeping his head up despite the lack of a decent job and a humiliating ordeal of holding the bucket for rookie boxers to spit in. In the meantime, the equally proud Apollo will not put up with his fans' harrassments and accusations that the fight against Rocky was fixed and that he has lost his edge. Apollo determines to prove to the world that Rocky going the distance with him was a matter of chance and challenges Rocky to fight him a second time. The rest is history!
Sylvester Stallone's script of Rocky II is equally powerful to that of Rocky, only the thrills are more vibrant in the original. All the actors who lit the screen in Rocky return to the sequel. Director John G. Avildsen, who earned an Oscar for his work on Rocky, does not return. It's none other than Stallone himself who directs this one. He will also go on to direct Rocky III and Rocky IV. Avildsen would return to the director's seat in Rocky V. Stallone does this movie justice.

Rating: Summary: SEQUEL IS REALLY AN UNOFFICIAL REMAKE OF THE FIRST MOVIE Review: ROCKY RETIRES FROM THE WORLD OF BOXING. BUT AFTER HE FINDS THAT HE CAN'T GET A REGULAR JOB, HE EVENTUALLY RETURNS TO BOXING TO FIGHT APOLLO CREED IN A REMATCH. SOAP OPERA-TYPE STORY KINDA BOGS IT DOWN A LITTLE BIT, BUT THE CLIMATIC REMATCH BRINGS IT BACK ON TRACK. REALLY AIN'T NO DIFFERENT FROM THE 1ST MOVIE, BUT, IT'S STILL AN OK MOVIE TO LOOK AT.
Rating: Summary: Step Into the Ring with the Itallian Stallion... Review: The first Rocky movie of 1976 was a blockbuster hit. Sylvester Stallone delivered a movie with great screenplay, great characters, a great plot and all together a wonderful movie everyone will remember. Stallone continues the Rocky story with his smash sequel, "Rocky II." At the end of the first movie, after the fight ends, Apollo said to Rocky, "There ain't gonna be no rematch." You just now that was foreshadowing the events that would happen in the sequel in 1979.
The movie starts out with the end of Rocky's fight against Apollo that ends up as an even draw. Rocky happy with the results of his fight and decides he is going to retire from the ring and get a real job now. Plus he has seeing problems in the right eye. So after leaving the hospital, Rocky marries his beloved Adrian. Now, without boxing, Rocky has to find a real job. He looks everywhere. First he tries to do commercials which is a total failure because he can't read, then he tries to get an office job which is impossible without education which he never completed. Finally he lands in a Meathouse which later on he gets laid off. Rocky turns to his only option, the one job he knows how to do, his calling, BOXING.
Rocky, convinced he can still do it, but his trainer Mickey doesn't think he has the "tools" anymore with a bad eye. Adrian doesn't want him to fight, so there is no support. Then the opportunity of a life time comes up again. Apollo Creed is very upset with the last match's result and accuses Rocky of being just a "lucky" fighter and publically demands a rematch with Rocky. Rocky and Mickey get right to work.
With determination and strong will, Rocky trains harder than he ever did before to go all the way again with Apollo. This time, Rocky just doesn't want to shock the people, he wants to win the title.
Will Rocky do it? Can he beat the World Champion? Buy this DVD to watch and find out. This movie is even greater than the first. "Go get him, Rock!"
Rating: Summary: Elegant Structure, Touching Performances Review: The original film seemed to be more of a street story, along the lines of a Taxi Driver character. Rocky is a product of his neighborhood, and with his determination, he gives Apollo a run for his money in a joke bout. I felt that the original film was a setup for the sequel, which is a classic. Rocky II has great characters...you've got sweet and shy Adrienne, who works in a little pet store, her overprotective bum of a brother, Pauly, a hardened trainer of the old school, Mickey, Apollo Creed, a champion whose success and vanity have gone to his head, and Rocky, the underdog with a lot of heart. A particularly memorable scene was when Mickey motivates Rocky in a church after Adrienne's fallen ill. The flow of this story is great. Highly recommended.
