Summary: Bond Bombs Out!!
Review: Don't let the one star rating fool you - this one is a BOMB and the worst serving on offer from the "McBond" series (worse still than 1973's L&LD and 1974's TMWTGG combined!!!). After 1977's superb TSWLM the owners of the Bond Franchise dished up this tripe almost as an unintended parody of the series. After a fantastic teaser, M/raker quickly plunges into a quagmire of high farce. Not even Jaws can save this movie from itself. Contains the most hilariously absurd movie scene I've ever seen: Bond wrapping a floppy Boa Constrictor around himself. Unfortunately the snake lost and Bond saved the day yet again (Whooppee!). Worse still, Moore performed his excruciating interpretation of Bond on 3 more occasions.

Summary: Almost killed the franchise.
Review: The only reason to watch this awful Bond episode is for the lovely Corrine Clery. I'd recomend "Story Of O" instead for that reason. Roger Moore should have never been cast as Bond to begin with. His quips in this movie and the ridiculous Jaws character give fuel to every Austin Powers parody. Thank goodness the Connery films will always be available to the true bond fan and that the current films like "Tomorrow..." are being produced with thought and creativity. Check the grammar of any positive reviews of this movie. Nuff said.

Summary: I loved this movie
Review: There is only one more movie better than this, The spy who loved me. Now, This was a great movie complete with a lot of action, romance, and destruction. My only problem is I wish James would have got more involved in the ending shootout sequence, but he killed Drax instead. But still, a great Roger Moore Film.

Summary: Moonraker: Doesn't quite make orbit
Review: Moonraker is the eleventh film of the James Bond series and the fourth starring Roger Moore in the title role. It continues the comic book/parody theme established by the previous Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me". In fact, "Moonraker" is in many respects is a retread of "The Spy Who Loved Me", where Bond allies himself with a beautiful female spy to battle a rich industialist bent on destroying humanity so he can establish his own little utopia, and of course, lots of outrageous technical gadgets. One can actually make a game of watching the two films and seeing not only the common plot elements but also that they often occur almost in the same sequence! The two films even share the steel-teethed henchman Jaws played by Richard Kiel.

Moonraker had the biggest budget of any Bond film up to that time, much of it used to produce the special effects, some of the best seen in a Bond film until the '90s. Unfortunately, the bigger budget did not translate into a better film. The elements that meshed so well in "The Spy Who Loved Me" fall a little short in "Moonraker". The relationship between Bond and his love interest CIA agent Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles) is lacklustered and a poor attempt was made to give the killer Jaws a love interest. Even the superior special effects in the outer space scenes has an unintended effect: in order to show it off, the flow of the story must be slowed to a crawl. The basic strength of most Bond films is that although the stories are fantastic, they maintain an air of pausibilty. Moonraker breaks this rule in several places, most blantantly at the very beginning by the way a Space Shuttle is hijacked while in transit. The ability to suspend belief is sorely tested in this film.

Still, there is still much to recommend about this film. Bond is involved with not one but two great boat chase sequences, a battle royal with Hugo Dax's first henchman Chang and the most outrageous climatic battles between the armies of good and evil in the whole Bond series, and of course, Bond saves the world, gets the girl and embarrasses his superiors.

About who likes this movie may well depended on what kind of Bond fan you are. Roger Moore fans will probably rate this film rather highly while Sean Connery fans or fans of the original Ian Fleming Bond will probably hate it. This is one of those Bond movies that would probably not appeal to a Bond novice. My opinion is that Moonraker is a slightly better than average Roger Moore Bond film but it is not a gem. It has a number of good parts but this is a case where the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. It would not be the first Bond movie I would buy but if I were a Bond fan, I eventually would have get it.

Summary: This movie is pretty bad
Review: Moonraker was a mistake. I do not reccomend buying this DVD unless you are trying to collect the entire 007 series. Moonraker is an embarrasment to 007 fans everywhere.

Summary: Moonraker like you've never seen it before
Review: Wow! I was really impressed with the quality of the video--an excellent transfer all around. I never saw Moonraker on the big screen so this disc was a real treat. The audio is excellent as well. Initially I wasn't sure how the sound would come out on my surround system but the Dolby 5.1 track had my subwoofer rockin' and the remastered soundtrack is first rate. There are a few extras including one 'easter egg'. If you like Moonraker you'll love this disc.

Summary: ULTIMATLEY A MASTER PIECE OF THE CENTURY
Review: This is probally in the TOP 5 James bond movies ever, Stroey line was great, and that guy above mine who says james bond was a kidder and a jokster. HELLO! look at the james bond movies he jokes except the ones with stupid timothy Dalton. I especially love the part in venice and at Drax industries JAMES BOND is like a God too me. Deffinetly James Bond Ranks up Number #1 on my list up near StarWars, And the X-Files.

Summary: TWO STARS FOR CAMP VALUE ALONE
Review: James Bond meets Lost In Space (the TV Series).

Although not an adament 007 fan, I do enjoy this franchise and have seen all of the films in their entirety.

Moonraker deserves praise if not simply for the fact that it is one of THE campiest films ever made. My friend and I were on the floor, gasping for air and tearing up with laughter when James' Gondola is transformed into a totally impractical hovercraft ! When watching this sequence, check out the shot of the bird doing a double take - one of the worst cinematic devices ever employed.

Suspend your disbelief, enjoy Shirley Bassey's opening number (which lyrically makes about as much sense as the film), and hold on tight. This is a wild ride, stretching ones imagination beyond any reasonable limmits !
