Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST SEQUALS EVER!! Review: BATMAN is back to challenge a new evil threat to GOTHAMCITY the red triangle circus gang wich has been viciously attacking and harassing Gotham citizens until Batman shows up to crash their fiendish party. HOWEVER there is much more to this dark and somewhat haunting film. THE leader of the sinister circus gang the evil PENGUIN plans to romance Gotham city into electing mayor to reclaim the birth right he was denied at birth when he was thrown to the sewer by his own parents. The siniter PENGUIN is aided by an evil industrial businessman MAX SHRECK who plans to suck power from Gotham City and who also pushed SELENA KYLE out of a high window but she comes back as CATWOMAN this film is packed with action and is a must see for any BATMAN fan!!
Rating: Summary: Eeeyew! Review: This movie is disgusting. None of the characters are the least bit interesting and it seems the sole purpose of Danny Devito's Penguin is to be gross. At least the original Batman movie had some wit and decent music. Don't waste your time with this worthless use of videotape.
Rating: Summary: A sprawling mess with a great Catwoman! Review: Lose the penguin, & I'll give it 4 stars. Lose the Max Schreck power-plant sublot & I'll give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: The best BATMAN ever!!!!! Review: Tim Burton's direction shines in this picture. It's perfect. "Batman Returns" is dark and mysterious the way it should be. The series needs to return to these dark roots again; take the neon off the batmobile, take the nipples off the batsuit, and please get rid of Alicia Silverstone!!!! (And bring Catwoman back.)
Rating: Summary: Best one of the series Review: Ignore the other lame-@$$ reviews on this one, it is no boubt the best of the Batman movies. I am a huge Batman fan, and while it does not hew too closely(OK make that hardly at all)to the comics, it does the character the most justice. It is the darkest of the four films, and this is what makes it so great. Too depressing? Nah. Batmans world (as it is portrayed in the comics) is a bleak and terrifying one. I mean, for christ sakes his parents were shot in front of his eyes! In making no attempt to candy-coat gotham, this film, while not acurately reflecting the REALL(comic book) Batman, gives an extremely acurate feel of Batman and his world. For me, second only to Star Wars.
Rating: Summary: So far, the best Review: All the Batman films have missed the mark, but by far, this one is the better one of them all. The immediate eye-catcher on this one is Batman's costume. It is the most logically built one. Batman literally looks like he's wearing armor plates. That's realistic, that makes sense, and that makes it more realistic. The fact that this movie retains it's PG-13 rating amazes me due to the grotesque (and accurate) portrayal of the Penguin. The movie isn't good for its story. In fact, like all the Batman movies, the stories are totally unoriginal. The rather odd and sometimes goofy set construction in Batman Returns doesn't help add the realism the film needs. In fact, it becomes annoying as the film progresses. Tim Burton is a visionary...but not for Batman. But, what does work is the overall dark, brooding aura that pervaids in the film. It's almost claustraphobic and that's exactly how it should be. The hostile relationship between Catwoman and Batman works well, but not enough time is devoted to it because the movie is crowded with too many major characters, hence a bad and incomplete story. The fight scenes are well executed and exciting, but the animal (penguin) effects make you cringe a bit. So, it winds up being a mixed bag: there are some big flaws in the film, but there are some solid extras which make it quite watchable. The best of the Batman films, but the best one of all has yet been made, nor will it ever likely be made because the right people have not been assembled yet. Kind of like on the Superman films.
Rating: Summary: This has got to be the worst batman movie ever. Review: Batman Returns is just plain sick at times. The Penguin, who used to be almost loveable in the original comics, is a homicidal nutball in the movie. The catwoman (who is in herself at times very disturbing.) is blond (she is supposed to be raven haired) and more of a pain to watch then anything else. The only redeeming value is the occational funny line from Penguin.
Rating: Summary: Very dark and creepy Review: I watched this movie on HBO one afternoon, expecting something like Batman Forever, and was shocked. It's so weird! The scene where Pfifer is pushed out the window, and then goes nuts, was actually scarier than most slasher movies. The part when Peguin's parents throw him in the river is incredibly haunting. And strangest is the end, where Penguin's burial at sea made me sort of teary eyed. All and all it's a good movie which could have spent more scenes with Bruce Wayne and less scenes with Penguin eating raw food. The film fits in well with the series, it keeps up a Batman tradition of cool visual effects and parts where people fall from very high places and somehow survive.
Rating: Summary: IN ONE WORD BORING!!! Review: I found BATMAN RETURNS to be a dull film even for the caped crusader I felt that MICHEAL KEATON looked and acted bored in this film. MICHELLE PHIEFFER I really could'nt stand either, the only person I liked was DANNY DEVITO as the PENQUIN as he stole the show like JACK NICKHOLSAN before him he's the only reason this film is'nt a total disaster. I'm not going to even metion CHRISTOPHER WALKEN'S character you'll see why when you watch this film. All in all this film is not as bad as BATMAN AND ROBIN but it's close. One final word TIM BURTON how could you?!!
Rating: Summary: The best Batman Film Period Review: What are these professional reviewers thinking? Of all of the Batman films, this one had the best character development, stongest visual style, and most complex emotions. You do feel bad for the Penguin at the end...at that is good, because he it not totally evil... And Michele was perfect. If you want mainstream hype this is not the film for you. If you want a film where Burton dares to be an artist, this one needs to be in your DVD library. Perfect film during the holidays. (Film set at Chirstmas time)
