Summary: One movie to rule them all!
Review: This movie has it all terrific actors, great action, a worthy cause and true friendship. Elijah Wood stands out as Frodo the Hobbit. Hobbits are the smallest creatures in middle earth and it is Frodo who takes on the quest to destroy an evil ring in order to save his world from domination. I've seen this movie in the double digits so you know I truly loved it. 2 more movies in the trilogy will be released over the next few years, I can't wait. Run don't walk to this movie, you'll never regret it!

Summary: Awesome!
Review: This movie has it all... great storyline, great actors, great action sequences and unbelievable graphic and visual effects. The recreation of the vaious "worlds" is truly amazing and illustrates the endless possibilities that computer graphics offers to a skilled programmer.
There were so many opportunities for this movie not to live up to all of the hype. However, Fellowship of the Ring truly delivers! I cannot wait for the sequel, and there have been very few movies that evoke that response from me. I would recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys the fantasy-adventure genre or just wants to see a well-made and directed film.

Summary: The Best Movie Ever Made
Review: This movie has so many cool things in it. It clearly explains the book too. There are also many cool things on the extra features. This is truly a great thing to see. I think older kids should see it because little kids might be scared. It also has great music so if you don't want to watch it you can just listen to this powerful movie music. There are many great visuals of battles and various statues and architecture. You will defiantly get lost in this great visual epic. By: Elby

Summary: One movie to rule them all...
Review: This movie has to be one of my top 10 favorites. It is positively a beautiful film. The classic characters are brought to life through incredible performances from the cast, and somehow Peter Jackson managed to capture the charm of the novels on film. No matter how many times I've seen it or read it, I still find myself in tears with the closing scenes.

The costuming is glorious, and the scenery is completely believable. The sets ARE Middle Earth, and you are utterly lost in this story through the dramatic, wonderful way it is told.

The DVD is great. The sound is better than I could have hoped for, and the picture is better than I had expected. A wonderful carry over from the theater.

The special features are also a blast. The 10 minute preview of the Two Towers is great, leaving you on the edge of your seat to see the next film, which (regretfully) we have to wait for December to see. A slight insight into Gollum is given (at least how he is created in the movie), and even more great clips are waiting. Of course, the trailers are great as is everything else on the DVD.

It would be an absolute crime against humanity to purchase the full screen version of this, considering even in the widescreen it is hard to take in everything in any given shot. Go with the widescreen, the full screen is so chopped it has a clostrophobic feeling to it. And of course, the VHS can't have as sharp of picture as the DVD, and believe me, the picture is great on this.

I'm looking forward to the extended version, due out in November, but this is a marvelous movie and a delightful DVD. Pick it up and allow yourself to be swept away into middle earth. Remember: "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your front door..."

Summary: Wonderful Adaptation
Review: This movie has turned out to be highly controversial. When you think about it, it's hardly a surprise. This is the first attempt at live-action adaptation of one of the most beloved novels of all time. And I think that it had to wait this long to be done well.

And done well it is. There isn't much deviation from the novel, especially compared to the treatment other novels have received in big screen translation. The cast is wonderful, working as an excellent ensemble while still defining their own characters. Ian McKellen stands out as Gandalf the Grey, bringing a keen emotional depth to his character while also taking on the mantle of wise leader. Elijah Wood is also great as Frodo, showing through his actions and emotion just how great the burden of the One Ring is. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, John Rhys-Davies as Gimli, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, and Sean Bean as Boromir are all well cast as well. This film is about relationships, and these relationships feel real. Liv Tyler is surprisingly good as Arwen.

The fictional Middle Earth looks great as well. Filmed in new Zealand, it's hard to take your eyes off of the beautiful landscapes that surround our fictional company.

Howard Shore delivers an excellent score here as well. Very 'classic', yet it feels new. Using lots of chorus and brass, Shore helps convey the urgency of Frodo's quest.

Kudos to Mr. Jackson. Bring on The Two Towers.

Summary: 10 times better than the first, but not for small kids
Review: this movie is 10 times better than the first (which was very stunning). It's not good for small children for 2 reasons, 1 it's very long (30 miniutes longer than the first 3 hour movie) the added scenes do make the movie better though for somone with patience, good taste, and likings for the lord of the rings. and the second reason is more violince and ect. which brings me to the conclution that it should almost be rated R.

Summary: Great movie, OK DVD
Review: This movie is a great. A modern classic. It's one of my top three movies, along with Memento and Chasing Amy. I'd definatly buy this movie for the movie, but if you're a DVD buff looking for a DVD jam-packed with special features, hold out until November to buy the Special Edition with four DVDs. The movie itself is great, but the DVD is a little twitchy. Right out of the box, some parts of it skipped for me. It seemed to load a little slowly on my new Sony DVD player, and even slower on my Playstation 2. I don't really like the menus, and the special features are kind of lacking. But the movie!

Summary: Magnificent
Review: This movie is a masterpiece. Combining intense action shots, rolling landscapes, and well-developed characters, this movie is the archetypal adventure. But the wonder of this movie is that it is not limited merely to the surface level of action and adventure; it conveys deeper themes about life. In allegorical form, it shows the epic distinction between good and evil, the utter corruption of sin, and the sovereign care of God. It shows the joys of simple living, and the beauty of culture in middle-earth. All of this lifts you upward to the climax of emotion and gratefulness for the life God gave both the hobbits and us humans.

Though I missed seeing the Lord of the Rings in the theatre, this DVD made up for that tragic blunder. All the same, you may wish to wait for the extended edition, containing an extra 30 minutes of footage over 4 DVDs, to come out in November. It sounds very good.
