Rating: Summary: Its been done already Review: This film is silly. It is just a remake of the first 3. Its too predictable, and assuming that you never saw the film before no prizes for guessing who the (yawn) winner is.Why this film was made is beyond me. They should have donated the films budget to charity instead.
Rating: Summary: A great movie, not a piece of art Review: This movie is fun, has an outstanding finale fighting scene, and is appropriate for the Cold War era in which it was shot. If you don't like this film, then you take yourself far too seriously.
Rating: Summary: The second best Rocky movie Review: Though not eclipsing the first Rocky in terms of the purer elements of film and script quality, this movie is by far the most enjoyable of the series. This, after all, is a movie--not a "film" to be taken seriously or rigorously analyzed for any deep symbolism or content. This movie has an excellent boxing scene and does a great job in depicting the intimidating grandeur of Soviet decorative and anthem writing ability as well as the garrishness of American boxing hype during the Apollo Creed death scene (which is pretty predictable because Apollo neglects to participate in any training montage). However, my review may be a bit biased since I am relatively conservative and really do enjoy feeling the spirit of 80's militant patriotism.
Rating: Summary: Good nonthinking fun Review: While this might be the worst Rocky movie in terms of plot and, well, deep feeling, this is also one of the most fun Rocky movies to sit down and watch with friends. This movie definitely has the best training sequence of any of the movies. It's amazing to see just how in shape Stallone was during this movie. The end fight scene puts all the other movies to shame in terms of sheer brutality, but it also is the most unbelievable fight scene as well. Each punch from either man sounds like a sledgehammer on concrete. If you're looking for a good movie to watch and get exited over, pick this one. If you want to watch a really well done, thoughtful movie, pick up Rocky I.
Rating: Summary: Rocky IV Recaptures what the first Rocky had... Review: After watching Rocky IV, i just amazed me that they could get the heart filled moments with what the first on had. It puts the whole East vs. West thing in it, and the drama when Apollo Creed dies. It puts into the viewers mind that the movie is Good vs. Bad, or USA vs. Russia. It makes the viewer want to see The Russian get knocked out, made me want rocky to kill him, if you are a die hard rocky fan i suggest buying this one first, if you have never seen a rocky watching the first one the this one...
Rating: Summary: Rocky & The Cold War Review: I remember seeing this on the big screen in its premier when I was 16, and that was the good ol cold war era when the Russians were the bad guys. I remember I enjoyed seeing our hero beat the tar out of this huge mindless Soviet machine! It was a very patriotic and Xenophobic film that aroused U.S. nationalism in audiences here. Now, the film seems dated as the world situation as changed(If Rocky IV were made now, maybe the Rock would go 15 against an Iraqi backed by the Hamass!), and it is a good piece of film nostalgia. The movie plays much like ROCKY III with a reliance on a lot of MTVesque sequences that are nothing more than music videos(for example, after Apollo's funeral Rocky climbs into sportscar and speeds away into the night as we are treated to a montage of flashbacks from earlier films while rock music blares on the soundtrack). It is another example of how pop & bubble gum the films got, but ROCKY IV is still good entertainment!
Rating: Summary: Rocky IV Review: The training sequences alone blow the other rocky movies away. The training (thats what boxing is about, it's in the preperation) is emotional, passionate, and awsome. That combined with the final fight between drago and rocky make this the best of the series. And to those critics who say "its unrealistic, drago's punch could take rocky's head off"......remember "he's not human, he's like a piece of iron"
Rating: Summary: Ooooo...Rocky fights He-Man! Review: Ok, no nukes, the cold war, it was 1985 after all. No excuse for this one. It's better than Rocky 3 though. I hated to see Apollo go out like that but you had to wonder when one of these guys would get killed. Dolph Lungren makes Stallone look like a midget. Drago is stiff and awkward. So is this movie.
Rating: Summary: Rocky IV Review: Rocky IV is to me without a doubt not only the best movie in the saga but the best action-packed sports drama ever made. The emotion and suspense begins when retired heavyweight champion of the world Rocky Balboa's best friend, ex-champ Apollo Creed, is fatally struck and doesn't wake up by a mammoth 6'4" 261 lb. Siberian Express from the east in a Las Vegas exhibition match. Seeking vengeance, Rocky trains emotionally hard in the bitter-cold December of Siberia for an avenging bout in Moscow with the goliath Russian Ivan Drago, trained by enhanced Soviet technology and armed with a 2,000 psi punch and the whole country on his side. This film is the greatest story ever, with awesome music and lyrics by composer Vince DiCola and spectacular training sessions with an awesome soundtrack with artists such as Survivor. A definite must-see movie.
