Summary: Special Effects were great!
Review: I had watch this movie 3 three times and enjoyed it verymuch. The special effects were splendid. However, the movie plot didnot satisfy my taste. Maybe because it is the first episode. I can not wait for the other to come out.

Summary: Okay film, BUT THIS IS STAR WARS WER TALKIN ABOUT
Review: I hate Jar Jar Binks. I Hate Jar Jar Binks. I hate Jar Jar Binks. I could say this forever and ever. This movie had some of the best special effects that I have ever seen. The Story wasn't half bad. But the acting, well it was just pure carp (haha). Jar Jar Binks was annoying. This might have been the most over hyped movie, but it was nothing compared to Princess Mononoke ( the best movie of the year). It still had this Star Wars feel to it, though, and that is a plus. Obiwan and Qui Gon were awsome. I also liked looking for all these little spoofs in it (a hidden race of ET's, Indiana Jones and such). But why did they have to add laughter? Jar Jar Binks made me cry he was so bad (well, not cry, BUT HE STUNK). I hate Jar Jar Binks. I hate Jar Jar Binks.

Summary: May the force be a load of junk
Review: I hate this film more than any other film I have ever seen. The dialog is some of the worst I've ever heard, I have never known any kids to ever say "yippee" at all, yet Jake Lloyd say it twice in less than two hours. I think every one knows that Ewan McGregor is a good actor, you would only have to see Trainspotting to confirm that, but he looks lost in this film, the same as I felt when I was watching this...

Lucas has tried to defend this film by saying "its for kids" well that still doesn't get rid of the bad acting, weak script, flat direction and special fx which are far from special - it just makes it [bad] kids film!

Summary: I have a bad feeling about this," says young Obi-Wan Kenobi
Review: I have a bad feeling about this," says the young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Well, you said it, Obi-Wan. I wanted to like this film, instead, I ended up shouting half-way through it "We waited almost 2 decades for THIS?"

After all, the third Star Wars film, Revenge of the Jedi, really didn't live up to the first two films. Man, those Ewoks. Yeck, too cute. And the re-release of the "director's cut" first Star Wars only pointed up that we loved that film because back in the 70's, we'd never SEEN anything like it. The script, in retrospect, is thin. The cast was good and they held up what today looks like a pretty basic sci-fi effort.

Well, things can go from bad to worse. "Phantom Menace" is, without a doubt, WORSE than "Revenge" and the weakest film in the whole lot. I watched it twice, just to make sure I wasn't mistaken. No, I wasn't.

What is bad? Well, for one thing, the plot just seems to take skips and jumps. We sort of, kind of, learn things about Queen Amidala and the rebellion. We get a glimpse of the Emperor but learn not a lot about his motivations. We peek into the world of the Jedi Knights, and get a bit more insight into their hidden world, but again, not enough to really flesh out this intriguing brotherhood.

And then there's Jar Jar Binks. Without a doubt, the WORST character ever. Whoever objected to Jar Jar as a racist stereotype was right on the money. Not only racist but really annoying. I kept hoping he'd get speared in the battle scene, but as usual in films, the bad guys have incredibly bad aim. And that flying blue wasp shopkeeper was also pretty poor. If Anakin was so smart, why didn't he just pick up a big flyswatter and do us all a favor?

What's good? Anakin Skywalker as a child, and his mom. Some viewers didn't like the babyish Anakin--thought he was too young for the role, but I liked him. I thought he was superb in the pod race and when he interviewed with the circle of Jedi Knights. Jabba the Hutt is always terrific. I am huge Jabba fan. And Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) had real dignity and poise, and her costumes were thrillingly huge and imaginative. The end, where one of the Sith is killed and we learn there are always two Sith, master and apprentice, does a lot to explain some of the mystery of the Empire's struggles. That left me wanting more.

The special effects are, of course, excellent. With so many films using stunning effects nowadays, it's easy to get blase about good effects. But the natural movement of the animated droids, fighting machines, and yes, even Jar Jar Binks, is something that you just have to admire.

We can only hope the "Attack of the Clones" improves upon "Phantom Menace." That shouldn't be too difficult.

Summary: Back to basics
Review: I have a basic observation of the film vs. the original Star wars movies. Why did Lucas choose to bring out the later episodes first, and episode one later? All things in life have a beginning, middle and an end. Logic should tell us that the first episode would set the stage, building on the entire story from there. As time progressed the story, the characters, technology in the story, as well as the technology surrounding the making of the movie would progress as well. As I watched the movie I found myself trying to piece the history and the characters together in reverse, but it didn't click for me. I don't think any sequel will have the same freshness and charm that Star Wars did. You really cared about the characters in the original movies. Did you care about these characters? I didn't. For me the mark of a good movie is one the involves the viewer. Does it draw you in as a participant, or are you just watching a big screen video game. Episode I is a special effects masterpiece, not a great movie.

Summary: Racism?
Review: I have a big problem with people who say Star Wars I has racism in it just because Jar Jar speaks English with Jamaican accent. What is racism, by dictionary, racism is a belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. So my question to those who say Star Wars I has racism is this: Do you think American English is superior than Jamaican English? No matter if you do or not, let's consider another fact, is American English superior or British English superior?
In my opinion, no accent is superior than another, it's just the matter of how many people are using a particular accent. By the way, most people in Star Wars universe speak American accent, should a English man say that's racism too?

Speaking of the film, can you really believe that Jar Jar would speak a perfect British accent? That would make people laugh. And remember, Star Wars is not made just for Americans, it's made for all audience around the globe. And people elsewhere don't have the accent issue at all, why Americans are so different? Stop saying RACISM now.
