Summary: Critics Are Off-Base; This is A Good Movie
Review: Of all the movies released in recent years, undoubtedly the one that has been given the most unjustified criticism in recent years is "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantomn Menace". The reasons for this are varied, but the truth is that this movie is quite good. This is of course Chapter One in a six part story (a fact most critics of the movie seem not to understand the implications of:). The movie is therefore not going to give you a "they all lived happily ever after" though it is amaingly able to come close to it. Brilliant effect is piled onto brilliant effect and there are many great sequences: the journey through the planet core, the escape from Naboo, the pod race, and on through the finale.

The only criticism is that some of the acting is a little stiff (Natalie Portman's Queen Amidala is a little weak though she does just fine as handmaiden Padme) and that C3PO is left on Tatooine and thus misses the last third of the movie.

I would point out that once Episodes 2 and 3 are released, I believe the reputation of Phantomn Menace will soar, as I am sure there was some forshadowing in various places that one just can't see without seeing Episodes 2 and 3.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: Of course critics abound when a new movie in a series comes out. I tired to watch this movie as a stand alone and thought it was enjoyable. The storyline kept me going, the set design was awesome, and the Williams score was good. Overall, I enjoyed it and have seen it several times.

Summary: The Chosen One, I think
Review: of Course the original trilogy is the best, but everytime i watch Episode I, it feels like there is a hole in me, and the movie fills it. So theres something great in the film

Summary: George Lucas Strikes Again
Review: Of course, we all knew that he would. George Lucas wrote almost as good a story for Phantom Menace as he did for the originals. The music is wonderful, the charachters and plot are wonderful. My favorite scene is the pod race. I have the computer game, but it gets redundant because I win every time. Everything you would expect from George Lucas and Star Wars is in this movie. The only thing I didn't like was Jar Jar Binks. He annoyed me. Oh, well. It was still a great movie and well woth yyour money.

Summary: Hollywood's "Technology God" throws us a bone. . .
Review: Oh boy oh boy. The first of what will doubtlessly be 14 different releases of E1 on DVD. I'm not rating the movie here, I'm rating the Lucasfilm Imperial marketing strategy. I have gone from child of the Star Wars trilogy to father of children who don't really give a damn about Star Wars.

While I'm sure I'll buy a version of E1 on DVD, it won't be this one. I'll wait for the supermegaultra double trilogy that comes out in 2029.

Proof positive that Lucas doesn't care about movies, he cares about marketing. The true Darth Sidious.

Summary: SO COOL!
Review: Oh man! This movie is great! I think it's one of Lucas' best! There is just about non-stop action, thrill, and suspense! And one ofthe really good things about this movie is that there is no blood, gore, extreme violence, or any nudity. I can't wait until episode 2 comes out, I know it will be just as good, or even better! END

Summary: Hmmmm....
Review: Oh yeah!!! Star Wars is coming to DVD!! October 16 can't get here fast enough!! Six hours of extra stuff!! The time we have all waited for has finally arri...

Oh wait, never mind. It's actually Episode 1 that is coming out on DVD, perhaps the biggest disappointment in film history. So sorry for the false alarm. I guess it's back to waiting until Lucas gets off his butt and releases the original trilogy, movies that were actually good.

Summary: The Lucas Menace
Review: Oh, man, this movie has no substance. It's a fest of special effects spread amongst a group of actors that has no material to work upon (including the poor Jake Lloyd...).
Ok, we have something similar to a plot, but it's so derivative and inocuous when compared with the classic trilogy, that you just can't stand it.

The atmosphere of the movie has no suspense, no lurking danger, no sense of imminent disaster like the others. IT's all about trying hard to create a new phenomenal franchise in the style of Star Trek. But all the Star Trek movies at least had a soul of their own.
The PHANTOM MENACE simply has no soul, no matter how hard Lucas and the army of special effects guys must have worked.

Summary: Phantom Menace Rocks!
Review: OK - at 20 years old, whne the originals came out I was too young to see them in the movie theater. This was incredible. I think those who hated this movie wanted some kind of Sci-Fi religious experience, not a movie, made to be enjoyed by the whole family. Jar Jar Binks may have been annoying to some people, but the kids I know loved him. This is a MOVIE. Not some kind of Sci-Fi convention. It was meant to be enjoyed, not analysed, and I enjoyed it very much.

Summary: Lousy movie -- amazing extra DVD
Review: OK -- so everyone knows the movie was lousy. Anyone who argues ith that is in major "Star Wars denial". There are many major problems with the plot and general characterizations. Even though done well, I would have liked to see a little less CGI. Then there's Jar Jar... don't get me started.

The extra DVD, however, is absolutely amazing. The "making-of" featurettes are awesome to watch. You can watch a couple scenes from original storyboard, to computer animation, to completed version all in side-by-side screens. Lucas takes you back to the very beginning, Day 1, of writing & conceiving of the movie. You get amazing detail into the creation of the wonderful costumes and sets, as well as the choreography for the fight scenes. Definitely worth the purchase.
