Review: I'll only bother mentioning the special effects because that's all that people debate about. Everyone acknowledges that the plot stunk. The computer generated people just didn't look real. Maybe compared to computer games but anyone who has been outside and seen real things knows that something is wrong. What's wrong with using costumes like they did in the good Star War movies? I'd rather see a cantina full of costumes and Muppets than an arena full of cartoons. I'm optimistic that the next one will be better. PLEASE don't animate the wookiees.

Review: I'll start with the movie itself, then the DVD. First off, this movie was of course, highly anticipated. More than any movie ever! Unfortunately, there was no way that people would love it as much as the originals. Why? No Han, Luke, or Leia, and Vader is still an innocent little boy. Most fans may not admit it, but these are the main reasons they didn't like the film. Oh, and one other reason, Jar Jar. But why do they hate Jar Jar so much? I believe it is because of the first few scenes that he has. First impressions are everything and he made a bad one! If you were to walk into this movie, having never seen it before, AFTER the characters have left the Gungan Sub, you would probably not understand why people hate Jar Jar, because after that point he was not really annoying at all. In fact, he was pretty likeable. But before that, back in the swamps, and under the water, he was like C3PO times 10! The whineyness that we liked about 3PO was amplified in Jar Jar, waaaaaay too much! Also, all those phrases he stole from Full House were probably his worst mistakes. I mean, those are what annoyed me the most. But seriously, the more you watch this movie, the less annoying he is, and if you are capable of watching a Star Wars movie without the original cast, there really isn't any reason not to like this film. But there are still some things people just can't get used to, like that fact that this film is just so visually overwhelming! Let's face it, the first 3 were not! Because of that, it just didn't look like Star Wars. The Enhancements made to the original trilogy weren't even enough to make them match with this new one. Still, the effects were spectacular and no one can say they didn't look amazing! A personal complaint though, even though I did love the movie, I thought the podrace had some characters that were a bit too cartoonish, and I thought the announcer guy was a terrible idea, but I seem to be the only Star Wars fan who didn't like that stuff. This film is by no means perfect, but then neither were the originals. Some of the acting in this movie may be overdone, but do you remember the original? There was some majorly bad acting in that first Star Wars! The plot moves fast in this new film too, and is not as simple as rescueing a damsel from a gaurded castle and sleighing the beast. It's more in depth, and I guess it was too complicated for many of the fans who went to see this movie. That's too bad because it's all very interesting when you know what means what. Many people complained about the plot, character development, etc...as if this movie was meant to be scene on its own. You must remember people, these movies are being made to be watched all six in a row, only getting up for bathroom breaks and drink refills! This movie probably doesn't stand on its own the way the first one did, but it was never meant too. Jedi wouldn't have made much sense to people if it weren't for A New Hope and Empire! Just think about that! People who saw Jedi before the other too would have been like, "What is this crap?! What are they talking about?!" And I bet that happened a lot with this film. The fact is, no one should review this film untill all six are out and shown together, but then it's too late for that. On the bright side though, I feel these films, once all together, will be an amazing story! I only worry about the originals "matching" with the prequels. And as for Episode 1, despite a few minor problems, it's really quite good, just misunderstood. Now for the DVD. Excellent, don't miss a moment of it! Watch ALL the extras! And wow, no one wears jeans like Natalie Portman! This is tied with Snow White for being the best DVD ever outside of those big boxed sets like the Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box. Incredible what you get for the money with Star Wars, Episode 1!

Summary: A Few Flaws but Delivers
Review: I'm 15 and when I was little every year I saw a Harrison Ford marathon that they showed on Channel 13 (Panama) they used to show the Star Wars trilogy and Indiana Jones movies and I remember that the first Star Wars movie that I saw was ROTJedi and when I saw Jabba I got hooked I rented the other 2 and a couple of years later like in 1995 I bought the THX Trilogy and then I saw the Special Edition and they were definately between my favorite movies but now Lucas does this children movie that haves great effect and a good story but some bad parts like every scene with Jake Lloyd and a couple of scenes with Jar Jar I think that Lucas has lost the magic or he is just playing with us and is going to throw a bomb with the next 2 episodes. I think that Qui-Gon lost to much time on Tatooine that part of the midiclorians shouldn't have been made and another thing that this movie didn't have was a space fight what a stupid way of destroying the federation battleship but who doesn't loves Duel Of Fates, The Duel, the details on every location. Well I'm not going to buy this VHS edition I'm waiting until 2005 for the DVD for the 6-pack

Summary: Greatest Epic of Modern Times
Review: I'm 40 years old now, and haven't seen a single Star Wars movie, and seriously doubt that I will ever sit through an entire Star Wars movie in my lifetime. But I must say that they are among my favorite movies. Steve Lucas' phenomenal movie-making talent and story-telling ability have set the standard for sci-fi movies, and it is unlikely that anyone will match Lucas' brilliance in the foreseeable future. Even though I have not seen any of his movies, except for about 6 or 7 minutes of American Graffiti on HBO about 20 years ago at my neighbor's house, I base my reverence on the many articles and positive reviews I have read about the Star Wars movies and it's brilliant director. The characters of KooBraka, the robots 2-4-r-3 and q-c-v-O, and the valiant heros Hans Walker and Duke Jolo, the memorable villain Dark Maker and even the amphibian characters introduced in the "prequels" - Piggly-Wiggly and Mott the Hoople, have all become permanent cultural icons and will be discussed in literature and film classes for years to come. I highly recommend these movies to anyone interested in the art of epic story telling and great film-making.

Summary: Okay movie, but the best DVD out there
Review: I'm a big star wars fan and I have to say I was a little disappointed with the film when it first came out in the movies. I don't think its as bad as a lot people said it was, its an okay movie but it is the worst one out of the star wars series. The story is kinda weak and some scenes just didn't fit or make sense in the movie. But as far as the DVD is concern, if you have a surround sound system in your house, this is a must buy DVD. The sound in this film is simply amazing, this is the best DVD to show-off that system. The special features are also great with a lot of behind the scenes, documentary, and deleted scenes stuff. Also the pod race is the best part of the movie and you get a longer version in this DVD. That by itself might be worth.

Summary: George, George, where did it all go wrong?
Review: I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars movies just like every other reviewer here I'm sure. However, when I left the movie theatre after seeing The Phantom Menace, I realized that George might need some help after a 20 year absence from writing and directing. The movie would have been easier to do as a total digital cartoon with the amount of F/X he overdid for it. The only cool part that reminised the early trilogy was the ending lightsaber duel. The script was poorly written, and the character development was so one-demintional that the already proven talented actors (McGregor, Neison, & Portman) could not shine through the haze. Lets face it, he took poor and mediocre actors (Hammil, Ford, & Fischer) and made them shine. What happened George? I hope that George inlists a co-screenwriter like Lawrence Kasden from the original trilogy, and maybe kick back as an exectuive producer instead of director. Maybe let his ILM prodigy David Fincher take the director's chair. I also hope that he tones down the special effects, and actually tries the novel idea of building sets, and models like in the original (by far, the look ten times better then the poor excuse of the Gungan-Federation battle scene in TPM). I didn't expect the new triology to be better than the original, but I was hopping for a litte better outing than this. Please re-kindle the old magic the next two goes around George...please!

Summary: HIGH EXPECTATIONS NOT CAUSE FOR DISAPPOINTMENT.........
Review: I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and even though I give THE PHANTOM MENACE only two stars....I do it for good reason. My opinion of PHANTOM MENACE is quite simply explained. The original Star Wars looked real!!! It looked real because it was real!! Models and sets. That was the beauty of it! PHANTOM MENANCE, it seemed, was written in a manner to suit the computer effects they could do. Many of the scenes served absolutely zero purpose, other than to show off the computer CGI JUNK. Which, quite frankly, didn't transport the audience to a GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY, but instead into George Lucas' computer. The other thing that ruined the movie for me, was the way they chopped up the final battle. Cutting back and forth between the battle in the field and the lightsabre battle sucked the intensity, suspense and excitement right out of it. Leaving me going... humph, instead of WOW!! It's a bad movie. It's a cool movie, but it's a bad one....
