Summary: The Tolkien Purist can shut there mouths
Review: True Jackson did alter parts of the story. But either way, he did make a GREAT movie. If anything I think the changes, (i.e. Faramir's character, as well as the Ents, make much more drama in the movie). Remember, not everyone that saw these movies had read the books, we are talking about most of the globe....

Summary: Commentaries explained a lot!
Review: The Two Towers Special Extended version has a lot of scenes that provides character development. There are scenes with more background information about Aragorn, an explanation by Gandalf why Merry and Pippen are with the Ents and has a scene where there's a understanding why Faramir acts like a Boromir replica. There are so much more but others have done good job describing the scenes. The commentaries with the director and actors are also good too. Jackson explains why he deleted those scenes (they are good reasons too). He also explains why he made Faramir so different from the books and why he placed the Elves in the Helm's Deep. People who hated those 2 additions in the first place would understand why Jackson made the change. The actors tells stories about what happened during "that day of filming" and is quite enjoyable. For the special features, there is a 30 minute Gollum thing where they show Andy Serkis auditioning, what Gollum originally looked like and a more in-depth look of what Andy Serkis and the animators had to go through. Just seeing that long hard process made me glad that they won the Oscars for special effects. There is also an in-depth look on the Battle of Helm's Deep which they talk about how long they filmed it and what the stunt people as Uruk-Hai goes through. Truly a great set to own! If you're going to rent, make sure you have a lot of time because those special features and commentaries are worth to watch/listen too.

Summary: Definite improvement over theatrical version
Review: The extra footage in this edition of The Two Towers goes a long way towards improving the film adaptation of this book. I was especially glad to see the fleshing out of Faramir because it shows you why he wanted to bring the Ring to his father so badly, and his parting conversation with Frodo and Sam in the sewer below Osgiliath further redeemed his character. It was also nice to see Sean Bean again as Boromir briefly in flashback.

Summary: Thwarted by the InterActual player!
Review: I watch DVDs on my computer system, and I can't watch discs 3 and 4 because the content on those discs can only be viewed with the InterActual player! Problem is, this player always makes both of my systems crash (one has 1/2 gig of memory, the other has a full gig). I was able to watch discs 1 and 2 (HOORAY!) using another player with no problems. Anyone else have this trouble? I'm returning my copy in the hopes that the new one won't have this problem. New Line, why do you insist on providing the InterActual player? It's a really poor excuse for a product!What I WAS able to watch was stunning, hence the 5 stars. I couldn't get over the high quality -- this was recorded at a higher bit rate than the theatrical release -- and it shows! The movie itself is an awesome achievement and all of the performances are riveting. I've noticed that other movies are now touting the authenticity and detail of their costumes, sets, etc. Well, PJ and crew did it first and have done it to perfection. Bring on The Hobbit!

Review: the two towers extended edition dvd lives up to the expectations with every possible extra feature that any LOTR fan would have ever asked for! this is definitely one hell of a dvd you'll never regret buying. peter jackson's finesse and craftmanship in every frame of the film leaves you asking for more. no words of appreciation are enough. even 10 stars are less.

Summary: Defective disks! how many are out there?
Review: I'm rating this with one star as a protest against New Line productions because I'm having to send my copy back, a problem I'm encountering more and more with new DVDs and it is no end aggravating. DVD quality control seems to be no better than with good ol' VHS tapes. My third disk won't play at all, just cycles endlessly without displaying so much as a menu screen or being responsive at all to any input. BOO!!! Hassles and frustration for the holidays, not exactly what I'd had in mind. Lucky thing I didn't give this as a gift. Is this problem common? Anyone else had this experience? Cause I did with the extended version of Fellowship and now it's happening again to me. All I can say is, beware, there may be a bad batch of disks in the distribution chain. Watch out for suspect used copies.

Summary: (One of) the Greatest Movie ......
Review: Honestly, it could be THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE and maybe "will always be". But unfortunately it has become a "One of the greatest". Just to be clear, I love the movie(s) - perfect realization of what you imagine when reading the novel, yet something is missing. I didn't feel affected or get involved emotionally or shaken by any of the scenes, even by the so-called spectacular Helm's Deep battle.

Summary: Smeagol statue not as good as...
Review: I just bought my SEECGS version of the Two Towers. The TTTEE-DVD is very cool. The added scenes really explains a lot of the story, in spite of the theatrical version. However, the extra added DVD shows a Smeagol statue which is very very well done! The Smeagol you get with the package is not! Whereas its the same statue!! I believe this might be due to the fact that they were made in enormous amounts, but still. I don't like it!

Summary: Pure magic, again!
Review: With The Fellowship of the Ring, I said that if you did not like the theatrical version, the extended DVD version would probably not change your mind. I can not say the same for The Two Towers.
Understanding that the middle film in a trilogy is difficult to make in any situation (with the possible exception of The Empire Strikes Back), I still left the theater somewhat confused and let down after seeing The Two Towers. This was no doubt due, at least in part, to my feeling the film fell short of the excellence of The Fellowship. From my recollection of the books, it seemed that characters did not behave as they should, and at the end of the film were not where they were supposed to be.
However, after watching the extended DVD with it's many added scenes and very informative commentaries, so much is cleared up and "justified" that you are left with an almost completly different film.
As with the first film in the trilogy, I would say that this DVD version seems made with fans of the book in mind. But beyond that, due to the massive improvements over the theater release, I would say that if you want The Two Towers in your DVD collection, this is the version you must have.
