Summary: Forget The Bozos who complain about Adherence to the book
Review: This is a movie.
You try making an interesting script out of that book the way it's structured.

For anyone who understands movies and script writing and what needs to happen for a story to be conveyed, this script and this movie are absolutely AMAZING accomplishments.

For Tolkien nerds who care more about strict adherence as if the Two Towers were the written word of GOD, I suggest you try to understand what Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, William Friedkin and others have had to understand:

That an amazing book needs to be ADAPTED before it can make an amazing movie and this is an amazing movie.

But enough fighting off the losers who can't get over the fact that movies and books are different by definition.

Smeagol alone is enough to make this the greatest movie of 2002.

I'm not sure when I've EVER seen a character so perfectly developed and executed... let alone one that isn't really there... or at least only sort of there.

rent it, but it, own it see it again and again.

Movies simply don't get better.

Summary: Wow.....
Review: I think my title explains it all. The movie was absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe it. The only thing I didn't like...but it was awesome anyway, was that the battle of Helm's Deep was 1/3 of the movie. But then there is the directer's cut. (Sorry Peter, I know you hate directer's cuts!!!) Some stuff from the book wasn't in the movie. But I think it would be rather hard to adapt such an amazing book, into an amazing movie. It was done! And it was 3 hours long. But DEFINENTLY worth sitting through again and again. (I did) Peter Jackson over-powers any other directer. It was brilliant. Howard Shore's music score for the movie can't even be described with words. I couldn't believe how fantastic it was. It matched the mood of what was happening in the movie. Also...there is the cast. I don't think they could've done better with the casting. From Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom, to Gollum and the CG Ents. It was AMAZING. Everybody was perfect for their part. (This is getting too long, so I'm leaving you now) But don't take my word for it, BUY THE MOVIE. It's a burden if you don't...like Frodo carrying the One Ring. Hee hee hee...just buy it. :)

Summary: The Lord Of The Rings : The Two Towers
Review: In 2001, the best film ever made was released. This, of course, was "The Fellowship Of The Ring." I did not see the movie in theaters, but heard good things about it. I decided to buy it. I loved it and it made me want to read the books. Then I heard that the sequel (The Two Towers) was going to be released next December. I couldn't wait!

My girlfriend and I were first in line (on the first night) to see the sequel. We walked in and began to watch the movie. As soon as THE LORD OF THE RINGS popped up on the big screen, I knew it was going to be good.

The Plot: I have to say the plot is more complex this time. First off, it sort of abandons the One Ring part a bit. Second off, we meet new people that will come back in "The Return Of The King."

Frodo (Wood) and Sam (Astin) are traveling down the road to Mordor, the place where the One Ring can only be destroyed. They come along a CGI created Gollum (voiced by Andy Serkis). Frodo and Sam learn more about Gollum as the creature himself tries to help them to Mordor.

Aragorn (Mortensen), Legolas (Bloom), and Gimli (Davies) are traveling through different locations to find Frodo's other friends, Merry and Pippin. The two have been captured by Orcs, escaped, and have met the Ents (talking, moving trees). Aragorn and the others are found by the rulers of Rohan. Rohan is a place where people take refuge. Saruman (Lee) decides that Rohan must be destroyed and sends a great army to eradicate it. Gandalf (McKellen) returns and saves the people of Rohan at the final battle at Helm's Deep.

My Feelings: I truly loved this movie. The final battle at Helm's Deep is worth the price of admission. Gollum is fascinating to watch. The friendships and angers grow stronger. This film is darker though. In the first one, we had the happy, little Shire. We start this movie with a view of Mordor off in the distance. Yet, this film stands out. I do not think it is better than the original. Yet, it is just as incredible.

Summary: It doesn't follow the book 100%, it's still a fun watch
Review: Only a couple truly exceptional movies come out each year, Two Towers belongs in that category. Maybe it's the large scale adventure, the terrific cast, the incredible fighting scenes, or
story behind the madness of the war,the struggle to go on, despite how hopeless it may seem. Whatever the reason, I enjoyed the film from start to finish.

The difference between this film and the Fellowship, is that the warmth from the Fellowship the comfortable feeling that you had is gone, it is far darker and I imagine it only gets worse.

The movie starts out with Frodo and Sam going foward on their journey, early on you meet Gollum who was introduced briefly in the first one. When you see this long tortured creature you can't help but feel sorry for him, he's a representation of the Rings power over people (or Hobbits as it be) this makes Frodo pity him, who has himself been feeling a bit of the Rings control
Then you meet up again with the other members of the Fellowship, Aragorn (who hasn't forgotten about Erwen) Legolas and Gimli (who provides much of the humor throughout the movie)who are looking for Pippin and Merry, who have managed to be captured by Orcs, thus the plot unfolds. From the very beginning you're taken in, and from that point on you are swept away into a world of far larger scale than most movies even attempt.

By the end of the film you are wondering what comes next (unless you've read the books) what becomes of Frodo who can't fight the ring any longer? Does Sauron win over Middle Earth? Or does someone (not neccesary who you'd think)come to the rescue.
I suppose only time will tell

Note to hard-core die hard Tolkien fans: IF you want to see a movie that follows the book EXACTLY you may be dissapointed, because while this movie is terrific it does go its own way a bit
First of all, Merry&Pippin play a far larger part in the book with the Ents, I think this is done to incorporate the characters into the plot more, they made the Ents a little weaked willed. And secondly there is a scene with Aragorn and Erwen that occurs nowhere in the book, and this is done I believe to capture the female audience with the idea of the romance between the two.

But if you can look over these small changes I believe you will be very happy with the movie. I almost guarantee if you enjoyed the first you will enjoy the second, and I have a feeling the trilogy will end as well as it begun, so stay tuned.

Summary: WAIT FOR THE EXTENDED VERSION
Review: This is a great film, with amazing special effects (I've seen it five times in the theater). Granted, it strays from the book, but it remains true to the essence of the story-- and Gollum alone makes it worth watching over and over. WORD TO THE WISE-- wait until November when the extended version of the DVD is going to be released. Waiting for the extended release made SUCH a huge difference in Lord of the Rings-- giving more background to the story and providing details and extras that really added so much to the film. This one will be no different.

Summary: Would Tolkein Have Liked This?
Review: First off, I loved this movie!
Having said that, any who haven't seen this movie (is there anyone?) and has read the books will notice that this movie is actually the first two thirds of the book, plus things hinted at in Tolkein's appendices. As with the Fellowship Extended DVD, however, the extra time should flesh out more of the plot points and hopefully bring it closer to the book (why was Aragorn knocked over the cliff?). The only real problem I had with this film was Faramir, a noble and just character in the novels who I truly admired, was turne into something of a jerk in this movie.

Also, The Battle of Helm's deep is one of THE most intense moments (scenes) I've experienced in a movie, though I fear it loses some of it's impact in the living room setting (and why were the Elves there?).

Also, I am looking forward to the appendices on this edition as I truly enjoyed those found on The Fellowship of the Ring. This DVD is a must buy for any fantasy fan. And if you're one of those rare individuals who hate these movies, go watch the animated ones. Maybe that will give you a better apprciation for what Peter Jackson has accomplished.

Summary: INCREDIBLE movie
Review: Peolpe keep on saying that this movie did not include everything from the book...true, but I would like to see them do better than Peter Jackson has done! Fitting everything from the book into one film would be extremely hard without upsetting the audience because of the long running time. Hopefully the true LOTR fans will get back scenes that were not in the movie from the special edition DVD, and will be satisfied. This movie will go down as one of the greatest trilogies of all time! I hope Peter Jackson gets an Oscar for all this...
