Summary: Brosnan, Dench and Carlyle carry intelligent 007 adventure
Review: I give this Bond film credit for having a brain. An intricate plot (relatively speaking for a Bond film) has been lacking in this series for quite some time. The first two Pierce Brosnan 007 adventures were mostly action and smarmy remarks. Not that there's anything wrong with explosions and innuendo, it's just that we've seen it before. Again and again. TWINE puts some meat on this series' old bones. It keeps the basic elements standard in 007 movies and builds around them. Plot, dialogue and character motivation are the driving forces of TWINE, the 19th Bond film. Judy Dench, Robert Carlyle and Brosnan are accomplished veteran actors who handle themselves nicely. Dench's M is a bit overused but I can understand respect must be paid to Dench as an actress and that means giving her screen time. I would love to have seen more of Carlyle's Renard. Brosnan gives us a grimmer, tighter, more professional Bond than his previous efforts. Well handled and believable. Sophie Marceau is gorgeous but out of her depth. Melodrama, poses and breathy lines are poor substitutes for acting. Denise Richards? I hardly dare even go there. Let's just say I seriously considered giving this movie an entire star less just because of her. An unusually serious Bond film. Bond finds himself the uncomfortable middle man sorting out the passions and plans of various players; both on his team and the enemy's. TWINE shows Bond as part of a larger team like no other Bond movie ever has. Even the British Secret Service has gone bureaucratic! A very good Bond film that lacks a certain element needed to make it great. Call it sexiness or panache or joie de vivre. Call it what you will but TWINE falls short of excellence while maintaining the series' high standards.

Summary: parody of a bond film
Review: What's happened to these bond films? They've become almost a parody of themselves. Almost like the old batman series. They are such by the numbers plot line. Another ski chase, another boat chase. Which one was the film where he blows up the bad guy? All of them! After about 20 films they all look alike. Especially the last few. How about bond going after an average plain vanilla bad guy? Instead of exotic locales how about an adventure in Podunk, Iowa? Honestly, these movies are a blast, but can we have some "originality" and "creativity"?

Summary: Great Bond, bad Denise Richards choice
Review: I loved this movie and it confirms for me that Brosnan is as good as Connery, if not better. I know thats not popular to say, but I firmly believe it. The only bad, almost ludicrous, choice in this movie was making Denise Richards a nuclear physicist???? She spouts the lines exactly like someone who is clueless would. She would be great as a ditzy Bond girl, but not an intelligent one. Sophie was excellent, though. Mesmerizing in every way, she is my second favorite Bond girl. This film has incredible visuals and special effects. Yeah, there are holes in the plot and reasonings, but so what? This is a Bond film. Creative license has always been its innate charm. It is a place where we can suspend reality, just get away. My second favorite Bond film, next to Goldeneye(which, by the way, stands alone atop the pinnacle of Bond films).

Review: The 19th MGM James Bond-007 movie is here. It's probably the best movie yet. It has the best stunts.

Filmed in: England, France, Spain, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and the Bahamas. The name is taken from 1969 On Her Majesty's Secret Service when James takes a look at his coat of arms and is told that the family motto is: The World Is Not Enough.

Of course, Pierce Brosnan returns as the role of 007. Sophie Marceau as the murdered tycoon's daughter, Elektra King. Denise Richards as nuclear expert, Dr. Christmas Jones. Robert Carlyle as the doomed terrorist, Victor Zokas aka Renard. And John Cleese as R, Q's assistant. The movie also sees Robbie Coltrane's return as Valentin Zukovsky and Judi Dench 3rd appearance as M, the boss.

The plot involves Sir Robert King, an oil industrialist. He buys a report about the Soviet's missile department accidentally thinking it contained info about the terrorists attacking his pipeline in the East. Surprised to find out his money was wasted, a Swiss banker retrieves the money. M sends 007 to pick it up. But the banker, Lachaise, is in for a surprise. The report Sir Robert bought was stolen from an MI-6 agent who was killed for it. Knowing Lachaise knows who killed the agent, Bond threatens him. Unfortunately, Bond only escapes with his life and the money. No name. After a spectacular scene, Sir Robert is dead. Days later, his daughter Elektra takes over the construction of the pipeline. But 007 suspects there is something suspicious about terrorist Renard, the King organization, and even Elektra herself. M refuses to listen to 007's crazy instincts. Only Dr. Christmas Jones & Valentin are on Bond's side.

The movie sees Q's retirement. And a good thing too. After all, the DVD isn't dedicated to Desmond Llewelyn for nothing. However, Q has given the Q labs to R. Probably a bad choice. R will talk you through putting a shirt on!

Review: This movie was unbearable to watch. After the opening sequence I would have been better to turn it off. This movie totally lost my interest. There was no substance to the action sequences and the acting was awful. To top it off the ending was ridiculous and insults your intelligence. This movie puts 007 in a bad light. If you like 007, this movie will not be on your favorite list--it's at the bottom of mine!

Summary: Another Satisified Bond Reviewer...
Review: There are only two actors that have convinced me they can only play James Bond: Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. While Connery played the character with much suave and finesse, Brosnan plays it with a more serious and bolder touch. Without getting into too much detail about story or plot for this latest Bond flick it definitley lives up to its title with evil characters that don't know too much of a good thing can be hazardous to their health ! The story or plot is packed with typical Bond-esque twists and turns dealing with explosions,espionage, gadgets and global domination in some form or another concerning the world's leading oil pipelines along with Soviet politics ! In true essence it's any James Bond fan's cinematic treat.

The beautiful and gorgeous French actress Sophie Marceau (from Braveheart fame) is perfect for her role as heiress Elektra King to an oil empire. Even with half her character's ear missing (watch the movie and you'll know why)she's still mesmerizing. The only questionable choice for another character is Denise Richards (Wildthings) for her role as nuclear physicist/scientist Christmas Jones. At times her wooden performance will make some viewers cringe.I know, give Denise Richards time and she will be a "better" actress someday.It's just that she seems great for eye candy and nothing else (it's embarrassing since she plays an American scientist among European and British characters/actors). The only other disappointing note is the final cinematic appearnce of British actor Llewellyn as Q ;he passed away shortly after filming this project. The dvd inclusion of Garbage's video and theme title for the film,while the video has it's own Bond storyline, keeps in sync with the overall effect or subject of world domination and destruction. It's amazing no matter what artist from almost any pop genre is chosen to record the Bond opening themes, they always come out on top ! It's a pleasant surprise to see the group garbage in an almost "formal" music video environment without going to wild, extreme, or bizarre (not that that is such a bad thing for the group's own personal musical image---I'm a fan of theirs,also)...

To say this is the worst James Bond---NEVER ! To say it's the best---not quite. However, it is well worth the time and money spent in viewing this dvd...

Summary: Stunning Bond Preformence
Review: When I purchaced The World Is Not Enough off Amazon.com, i was a little concerned because of the reviews. But, I slapped the DVD into my player, and sat down with a nice big bowl of popcorn. And, I loved it. Pierce Brosnan offers a stunning preformence. The plot isn't dry, and no ideas were taken from the 18 other james bond movies. Director Michael Apted put his all into making this Bond sequal the best yet, and i think that he should be recognized for that. Other than Brosnan, Sophie Marceau is a very talented actress who puts her all into this performence. If you was great, action filled fun, select a James Bond movie, especially THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.

Summary: i find it to be the best
Review: you know, it's ironic that so many people have said this was the worst james bond movie and so on, but i find it to be the best of the pierce brosnan series. goldeneye was good, but...oh i forget what i didn't like about it, i haven't seen it in ages, but i recall that i didn't like it...and tomorrow never dies was okay, but too predictable.

what i really liked about this one is that james bond was used like he used the girls he always slept with. electra found his weakness and exploited it. i always thought james bond would have to be a super-spy, one who would have no weakness, but we find that the quality that we love most about him, his sexiness--getting all the ladies--was just taken advantage of and attacked. i liked that part. it's time bond learned his lesson that sleeping with all the women in the world isn't that good of a thing.

Summary: Dalton should have continued with the role of 007
Review: Like an earlier reviewer stated, Brosnan squandered the promise he showed in Goldeneye. His subsequent movies including TWINE have been disappointing. Too little plot, too many action sequences and a rather weak performance by Brosnan have taken their toll on the series.

For anyone that has seen the 1987 movie "The fourth protocol", you will know what Brosnan is capable of. In that movie he played a lean, mean russian agent. If only his portrayal of Bond was more like that, he would be much more convincing as 007. It was a sad day when Dalton decided not to return as Bond in Goldeneye.

Summary: Squandering the promise of "Goldeneye"
Review: Two movies later, it's hard to remember how Pierce Brosnan reinvigorated the comatose James Bond franchise with "Goldeneye." Whereas that film was fresh, sexy and (especially for a Bond movie) smart, "The World is Not Enough" features one inane set piece and twist after another, bringing back memories of the end of Roger Moore's campy era.

And leaving aside plot inanities like M's role in the film, Electra's "secret" and the thudding climax, what on EARTH made them cast Denise Richards in this? She may be eye candy, but her range clearly extends from the sophomoric "Starship Troopers" to the titillating "Wild Things," but no further. Every time she comes on the screen, it makes me want to turn off the TV or, at minimum, the volume. Casting her a nuclear scientist (in hot pants, no less) drew catcalls in the theater, and the experience doesn't improve at home.

This is a below-average Bond flick and a definite renter. Spend your money on Connery or "Goldeneye."
