Review: In a single summarizing word: Borg. I absolutely loved this film, and highly recommend it. The unusual level (for a Trek film) of objectionable language may offend some viewers; but as a sci-fi/action/adventure flick, this one has few equals. The Borg have got to be among the most sinister villains outside of horror films; perhaps that's why "First Contact" had a dark, brooding air throughout the film. The pure evil that resonates from the Borg is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat over the fate of Earth, even though you know it'll be okay...but, then again...resistance is futile...you will be assimilated...

Review: This is the best! It has a clever plot with all of the Next Generation gadgets, as well as new and more clever ones. It gives a never-before-seen view of the Borg.

Review: Let's analyse the other Trek films first. Star Trek, the Motion Picture: Slow, boring and tedious. Star Trek II, The Wrath Of Khan: Good but not perfect. Star Trek III, the Search For Spock: Silly. Star Trek IV, The Voyager Home: good. Star Trek V, the Final Frontier: Silly again. Star Trek VI, the Undiscovered country: great. Star Trek VII, Generations: silly. Does anyone notice a pattern? Even number= good film. This is fully true with First Contact. Personally, I loved every minute of this film. Firstly, it has a fantastic score. Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes et al all do well. Brent Spiner, my favourite character, is outstanding. And the wonderful Borg Queen is introduced. The Borg are the most threatening bad-guys we've yet seen in Star trek. Hell, aside from the slightly silly Zefram Cochrane, this is perfect! The Enterprise E is a wonderful ship, much more interesting than the previous one. I'm not too big a fan of the militaristic new uniforms, but they're quite nice. The plot for the film is a little predictable, but I think it's great! And personally, I think the people who think that William Shatner should return should have their head examined. With all due respect, the guy is getting on a little. If you've seen the Simpsons "Star Trek XII: So Very Tired" sketch, you'll see what I mean. First Contact is my favourite Star Trek film, and is far bette than the next one, Insurrection. I can think of no major problems, so I'll give it five stars and two thumbs up!

Summary: The Best Star Trek Movie. Period.
Review: I had tried to watch TNG when it first aired, but became boredafter three episodes. Needless to say, I didn't watch any more. Thena friend took me to see this movie in a theater. I was so astounded, I went home and watched all of the episodes on tape that I'd passed up when they were new (my friend had them recorded). That was the only way I found out the first season was the only one that s**ked.I know some people still did not like it, and I think I know why, so this may help you decide if you haven't seen it: If you like ST for its rich characterizations and don't in general enjoy action pictures because you think they're too juvenile, you won't like it. It does rather depend (for in-depth character development) on the series that went before it. However, if you like action movies, or if you think a theater release should have more action than a TV series, you'll like this immensely. You don't even have to like ST or know anything about it. This has displaced my old favorite 'Voyage Home' as my personal favorite. I can watch it over and over. And, as the other reviewers mostly say, Frakes' direction is impeccable.

Summary: Zephram Cochrane is cool!
Review: Zephram Cochrane is king and really makes this movie. For once, ST has created a real person and not some noble ideal. In talking about his warp engine Cochrane says "I did it for money... so I could retire to some tropical island surrounded by naked women." (look of shock on my face) Yeah! I can believe this! This is real! Brilliant, a bit nuts, but still a human being. My only reason for not giving it that last star is that Picard is pulled too far out of character when it comes to having to blow up the ship. He's too resistant and whiney.

Summary: When Zefrem Cochrane was a young dude...
Review: This film deals with time travel by Picard and his merry men back to the dawn of Warp Drive to thwart an evil attempt to get in the way of that discovery. We had only met Cochrane once before, "in the autumn of his years", on the Original Series, when a non-corporeal being he knew only as "the Companion" fell for him heavily enough to make him immortal (and later to give up her own immortality for him). In this film, Cochrane is a tinkerer in the mode of a latter-day Edison, about to make the biggest breakthrough in space travel since the Atlas rocket, but the scene that I remember most is when Counselor Troi, usually the Enterprise's hub of charming sensibility (we should all be so lucky as to have such a shrink), is served real booze by Cochrane (remember, the crew is only used to synthehol) and gets as plastered as Lucy Ricardo in that classic "Vitameatavegimin" episode. When old flame Riker sees her that way, he only partially suppresses a grin of affectionate amusement.

Summary: Good space cowboys flick
Review: Technically awesome and does create some suspense. Good acting by Patrick Stewart, especially when he loses his temper going into a rage about how mankind has allowed the Borg to venture further step by step. However, I must agree, this is not Star Trek as it used to be - too much violence, too little wonder. And Picard does go on with his socialist version of the future - no money, and people don't care about material wealth anymore. Yeah, right! Still, good entertainment.

Summary: THE BEST TREK FILM TO DATE
Review: Ok, the plot tended to wander a bit, but the overall effect is a definitely creepy movie that is dark and optimistic at the same time. You have the Borg (with an impressive performance by Alice Krige as the Queen) trying to erase Earth's "First Contact" with an alien race and you have the appearance of Zephram Cochrane...the inventor of warp drive. The women of Trek, Troi and Crusher, had little to do other than be set decorations. Lily (Alfre Woodard, in a typically excellent performance) is great, especially in the scenes where she is with Picard. Speaking of Picard, he sure did get to stretch his emotions a bit and appear more human than he has in the past. FIRST CONTACT will definitely go down in the Trek history books as one of the best...if not THE best.
