Summary: This is a great DVD package...
Review: I've looked at all 4 movies in the DVD package and were really impressed with each one. However, Superman:The Movie was the only DVD out of the collection that has a great deal of extra features along with a remastered audio and video but looking at the following 3 movies, one can't complain because when a movie is digitally transferred to DVD, it somewhat gets it's own face lift anyway, so anyone would agree that the Superman II, III, and IV looks much better in the DVD format that it ever did on VHS. Each DVD movie does atleast, contain the theatrical trailer which is always nice to see. I recommend this product highly, however, if you didn't like every Superman movie, I would recommend purchasing them individually.

Summary: Everybody's gotta be a critic, huh?
Review: I find it extremely amusing that everyone rags on III and IV like they do. Especially IV. The special effects were bad, huh? Well if all you care about are special effects then you shouldn't be watching movies that old to begin with. SM II had special effects just as bad. The scene with Zod blowing away the flame thrower, and the explosion shockwaves cracking that idiotic piece of glass they were trapped in were just as bad, if not WORSE, than any of the effects in IV. Then there's people complaining about plot holes and things that don't make sense. Great, then I suppose you SM I and II lovers can tell me exactly why the villians in II knew English immediately? Or why they didn't seem to have super hearing? Or why it took two of them to pick up a bus? How about the way SM suddenly got this "memory destroying kiss" power? Or Saran Wrap Logo power? Or why having a dense molecular structure would give some of these powers to BEGIN WITH? My point? Stop being so over critical. They're FANTASY MOVIES. And damn good ones, too. The acting is great, even in III and IV. Nuclear Man was fun to watch because none of the other movies had an enemy MORE POWERFUL than Supes, I don't care what anyone says. Plus it was always fun to watch him try and annoy Lex Luthor. The quality of the DVDs is great as well. The only reason I give it only 4 stars is because there is no full screen format version (widescreen version on a 14 inch monitor is not the greatest thing in the world), and SM IV is the sliced and diced version, missing 45 minutes.

Summary: SUPERMAN STILL SOARING
Review: Movies like this, do not wear thin, in the passing of time. The Superman series was the best movie experience of my childhood. I closely hold the first film to my heart, because it was the best of the series of four. I have the original format, and recently purchased the Special Edition, and was not disappointed in the very least. These movies in general still soar high.

Summary: Only for the Super Fan
Review: I adored Superman as a child and it was do, almost single handedly, to Superman The Movie. I wanted to fly SO badly! I ran around with a blanket tied around my neck for what seems like my entire childhood. My enthusiasm for Superman only increased with the superior Superman II. Now I had three great villans to pretend to fight! But the party came crashing down with Superman III and IV. Even then I could tell these movies were duds, and soon my nightly "filghts" around the world ended. My point in relating this story is that only the most dedicated Superman fans can stand to watch the final two films. As captivated I was with thte character, it was the stories presented in the films that kept me hooked, when they faded, so did my interest.Great care has gone into the presentation of each fillm and boy does it show! Simply put, these films have never looked or sounded better! For anyone who still likes to run around with a blanket tied around their neck, this is a terrific set that can't be missed. If however you are like me and, a more casual Superman fan, pass up on this set and get the first two DVD's separately. They are immensely entertaining and exciting with plenty of action and adventure to captivate the kids of today. You should not pass these up! Sadly the last two fillms don't measure up and are not worth the purchase (rent them).

Summary: My Review of The Superman Collection DVD set!
Review: I bought this at the local Best Buy and though only the first DVD is really any good, the whole package is overall quite delicious. But the first DVD is the only one worth buying in my opinion because of it's quality and features. If Warner Bros could make every DVD they released as good as the Superman The Movie disc, they would have every single DVD on the top 500 list. If only they had treated all four films the same as they had treated the first. Then this set would be worth the price it's listed as. But the simple fact is that if you are a Superman fan like I am, you have to buy the whole thing.

Summary: Very High Flying
Review: This set of four DVDs is overall excellent. In particular, the first movie received special treatment. We are able to see some great interviews, deleted scenes, and even original screen tests for several leading ladies playing Lois Lane and even the villainous Ursa. And the first movie also includes some restored footage and enhanced effects. The problem is that the other three movies were not given anything close to that kind of treatment. They are no different than what you see on the old videos. What makes me the most upset is that SupermanIV had about 30 minutes cut from the original film and Warners has NEVER decided to add that footage back into the film when released on video or DVD. Adding the footage could be a good marketing strategy. Superman buffs would love to see the footage never shown in theatres. To my knowledge, the extra footage was shown only once many years ago on the Holiday Network. So, the footage does exist, but the execs at Warners refuse to add the footage. I felt that DVD is the perfect reason to show that footage, even if it is added with a "special features" section. unfortunately it is not and we may never see the entire film as it was originally written. Other than that, I give the set a very good rating.

Summary: Superman is Here!!!
Review: The Superman movies arrive on DVD in spectacular fashion, and man, was it worth the wait! The first movie, as everyone knows by now, was digitally remastered for this new DVD and VHS version. The DVD is packed with tons of cool extras such as screen tests, three behind-the-scenes documentaries, added scenes, and much more! There's enough on this DVD to entertain Superman fans for days! The brilliant musical score by John Williams is even more dynamic than ever and the red, yellow, and blue on Supeman's outfit just jumps off the screen! Unfortunately, the 3 Superman sequels weren't give the VIP treatment by Warner Brothers for the DVD release, but one can only hope that this is only a matter of time. The sequels are still great to watch again simply because of the brilliant performances by Christopher Reeve, who brought a larger than life appeal to the Superman movies. Superman 2 is considered by Reeve as the best of the series and has Superman battling the Phantom Zone villains. Superman 3 co-stars Richard Pryor and contains the confrontation between Clark Kent and Superman that Reeve has stated as one of his most favorite Superman scenes. The last adventure, Superman 4, was written by Reeve himself and features the funny double date scenes with Clark and Superman, as well as the battle on the moon with the solar powered Nuclear Man! The Superman movies may have their fair share of flaws, but they are still grandly entertaining even after all these years and worth owning on DVD and VHS!

Summary: A classic film deserves a rich look
Review: Considering this is one of the best comic book films and one of the greatest movies period, it deserves a much better presentation. Warner Bros. "gem" is wrapped up in a snap case and cheesy advertising designs with the only thing to protect this jewel, flimsy cardboard pieces! Look at X-men,Fight Club,Seven:special edition,Independence Day just to name a few, their packaging and special features go the extra mile. Granted the movie is one of the greatest whether its remastered or not the DVD is for the new and the future generations who should learn more about the film through documentaries and behind the scenes footage. After all what holds all precious artifacts?

Review: Finally the day is here! Superman on DVD! I have no gripes other then I wished they also gave Superman II the white gloves treatment and loaded that disc up with all kinds of goodies. At any rate, I can't wait to get home to watch this thing and relive the magic.

Summary: You'll believe a man can fly.
Review: The curtains draw. JUNE 1938: A young boy opens a comic book, and reads a small piece from it: "In the decade of the 1930s, even the great city of Metropolis was not spared the ravages of the world-wide depression. In the times of fear and confusion, the job of informing the public was the responsibility of the Daily Planet. A great metropolitan newspaper whose reputation for clarity and truth had become a symbol of hope for the city of Metropolis." The camera zoomed out, passed the Daily Planet building, into space. A stirring theme begins, and we believe a man can fly. Such is the power of Donner's direction, and Williams' theme, in my opinion the greatest work of each. Virtual sabotage by the tight-pocketed producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind would cost each further entry into the series a little of the original's magic, but all but the forth one brought a bit of their own magic to make up for it. Superman II, finished by Richard Lester using a large percentage of footage filmed by Richard Donner during the original production would bring a touching romance and the powerful decision of mortality (undermined slightly by the previously named producers, who didn't want to pay for Brando again.) Superman III would feature a powerful scene in which a corrupt Superman would fight an honest Clark Kent for the mantle of the S. (Kent winds out, and after destroying Superman, rips open his shirt to reveal the classic, and unblemished uniform. He precedes to take back the name by undoing all of his predecessor's wrongs.) Superman IV, while more along the lines of Power Ranger's the Superman and giving allowing him undocumented new powers, has equally powerful performances of a less than stellar script. This set is a dream come true, and I'm patiently waiting for it to arrive on my doorstep this Tuesday. Do yourself a favor. Pick this box set up, and allow yourself to believe a man can fly.
