Summary: Avoid like kryptonite; buy only SUPERMAN I on DVD
Review: This collection is an uneven offering, meant only for the SUPERMAN completist. While it is common knowledge that the films themselves are of varying quality, you might wrongly assume that the mediocre sequels might at least be redeemed in this collection by tons of extra features.

They are not.

Indeed, SUPERMAN II-IV are little more than VHS transfers to DVD. It's bad enough that SUPERMAN III and IV offended the sensibilities of even the most casual SUPERMAN fan when they were released theatrically. Here, Warner Brothers only deepens the insult. It's not just that there are no extra features on II-IV; it's that the transfer itself is of a much inferior quality on the three sequels. Where SUPERMAN is a gloriously enhanced, remastered gem, SUPERMAN II-IV show their age to the point that you'll blieve SUPERMAN I was made AFTER its sequels.

Unless you really need the convenience of being able to surf to a specific scene in Superman IV, save yourself some money. Get only the Special Edition of SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE. Leave the other sequels to a nostalgic trip through your VHS collection.

Summary: Is Not Shipped With Care
Review: If you are looking for the appeal of owning the box set of Superman, then please go to a store to buy it. The box I got came all beat up even though the packing for the shipping was in perfect condition. So now my silver box has wrinkles and crush marks on the corners. If I had bought this in the store I would have been able to pick a box without any scratches or crush areas. That's my only regret.

Summary: This DVD Gift set stinks....
Review: It's perhaps asking too much for Warner Brothers to put more effort into their DVD production and packaging. Not only are these all offered in display cases with cheap snap open packageing, the package box itself that holds all the DVDs together can be damaged in the mail. Ignoring that, the fact that of the four movies in this case, only the Special Edition DVD of the first Superman movie is any good. The rest are complete jokes. The 1978 movie still remains the best movie ever done with Superman. Christopher Reeve still remains the best Superman, where as his successors in the role (Dean Cain and Tom Wedling from Smallville) have proven to be jokes. Just like Warner Brothers is become a joke of a studio.

Summary: Worst sci fi movies ever! Dull, Duller, Dullest.
Review: Let's see: Utterly predictable, luke warm & 2 dimentional characters, wooden acting and when all is said and done you sort of wished the bad guy won for you don't give a whit about anyone in the movie that you're supposed to care about. The writing wasn't even as good as the 1950's superman comic books that I used to have. Reeve's Superman and the other good "guys" in the movie are simply that: Too good. It's just like the characterizations in Walker Texas Ranger. The "good guys" are totally polarized to the good without any of the NORMAL human shortcomings that make REAL characterization so potentially fascinating. And similarly Reeve's Superman (like Walker Texas Ranger) has antagonists (bad guys) who are so utterly unrealistically polarized to the "dark side" that they are completely unbelievable and thus prevents one from ever accepting the story on its own terms. These negative characters in either show seemingly, when they aren't spending their time concocting evil schemes, spend all of their free (that's non evil scheming time) stealing candy from babies, pulling the wings off of butterflies and other evil evilness...you know, that's evil--not good like Walker and Superman who are perfectly good at all times.

Pick either series, and right from the start you KNOW the (UTTERLY-evil-in-every-aspect-of-their-body/mind/soul) plotters are doomed for all eternity. Why? Well obviously they are utterly evil and therefore cannot withstand the "utterly goody two shoes" "aw shucks" "do gooding" of Reeve's Superman or Norris's Walker who are so utterly good Good GOOD and guaranteed to win. Do you know why? Because they're good, and the evil ones are not good. They're evil. Got it?

If you're into "nice" childishness then this drivel is for you. If not then look elsewhere. How does one pick a better actor to portray Superman than Christopher Reeve? Throw a rock...in any direction. Dean Cain was a million times better. The classic comic books were too.

Summary: Too Expensive Boxed Set...
Review: This review is not about the movies, it's about the Boxed set, if you want to read my reviews on each movie, look for it each movie's information. The idea to release all 4 movies in a boxed set is great, although quite expensive.

This it to warn all of you possible buyers, we all know what the Superman Feature Film movies are about, but I found out this boxed set has no extra disc, just the four DVDs, one of each movie, you can expect that, for the very same price at least.

I've been looking at every DVDs details, and comparing with the ones in the boxed set: I found no difference! Even the Superman I disc, is the Special Edition.

I dont know how the actual box of the boxed set is alike, besides from the pictures from this website; please be aware, IF YOU PURCHASE EACH DVD SEPARATELY YOU WILL SAVE OVER [X]. You will have the very same DVDs, but not the box, will that box be [X] worth? I dont think so. I consider myself a Superman fan, but I wont spend [X] in a nice white box, I can buy another DVD for that!

Also, I encourage you, the owners of the boxed set, if I am mistaken please let me know, I like my information as accuate as it can be.

Summary: Ultimate Superhero Collection
Review: This is one of my prized posessions of my DVD collection. Christopher Reeve is the most believable Superman I have ever seen. Next to Tom Welling as Clark on Smallville. Point: Buy this collection, you will not be disappointed. Only the last three movies in the collecting fall short when it comes to picture/sound/extras. I don't see what all the fuss is about with the new sound effects. They are awesome! Bottom line: buy this collection!!!!!

Summary: You only get one good movie.
Review: The only movie that is worth buying and having is the 1978 Superman movie directed by Richard Donner. It is the only movie that was respectful of the Superman mythology and gave us a Superman as we would like to see him played on film. The sequals were not worthy to carry the name Superman in their titles.

Summary: THEY SKIMPED ON II, III, AND IV
Review: Disc 1 is where it's at: loaded with bonus material! Unfortunately, the rest have nothing as I don't consider trailers to be a bonus. I'll be angry if WB re-releases this again...next time with II, III, and IV properly loaded with all the extras. Currently, Paramount's "double dipping" by re-releasing the Star Treks again.
