Summary: Adventure Never Felt So Good...
Review: Peter Jackson Has Done The Impossible. He's Returned To The Days Of David Lean And Cecil B. DeMille And Even Topped Them To Boot. A Sheer Delight Of A Film And One Of The Greatest Ever Made. Is It The Best Of All Time? That's Up To You To Decide. Even If You Haven't Read Any Of The Books Or Don't Even Know What A Hobbit Is, You'll Still Fall In Love With This First Part Of Arguably The Greatest Story Ever Told This Side Of The Bible...All The Performances Are Pitch-Perfect, The Actors All Slide Easily Into Their Respective Parts And Own Them As If They Were Actually Existing In Middle Earth As Real People. Absolutely Amazing. It Is One Of Those Films You Can Watch Over And Over Again And Never Tire Of It, And That Is Truly What Makes A Movie Great. The Level Of Detail And Scope Put Into This Film Is Astonishing, As Well As The Effortless Pacing, Making A Three Hour Film Seem Almost Too Short To Bear. There Is No Reason Anyone Should Not See This Film At Least Once; It's Definitely Required Viewing And To Be Certain, A Cinema Landmark...

Summary: An awesome movie.
Review: The Fellowsip of the Ring was an action-packed movie. The action scenes are some of the best I've seen in a movie. I've never read the books, so I can't compare, but Fellowship is a must see. Great acting, great storyline, and great character developement. These are something the sequal lacked, unfortunately. I hope the Return of the King will be more like this movie than the Two Towers.

I liked this movie so much that I bought it right after it's release, which was a big mistake. Weeks later, advertisements came out for this "platinum extended version." and I felt like I was [cheated.] If New Line wanted to release a platinum-edition Fellowship, they should have released it that way. I want all these features, but I refuse to BUY another Fellowship just for extra features. Oh well.

Summary: And i thought i had seen it all
Review: When I first went to go see the "Fellowship" in the movie theater, i was as impressed as all the other people. i couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD. (though seeing it on the big screen is still the best, especially the opening "Last Alliance of Men and Elves" battle) i immediately went out and bought it and i wore it out. When i heard about the extended version, i immediately started saving up for it. and it was definetly worth the wait. A 30 minutes more than the original plus hours and hours of extras. this 4 set DVD is amazing. And then you get the National Geographic DVD to go with it. Nobody can go wrong by getting this.

Summary: A real epic...one of the best DVD's ever
Review: ...this is one of (if not THE) finest DVDs ever produced. The added footage fleshes out the story spectacularily, giving the film an amazing amount of added depth. But the features...There is enough documentart material to set one well on their way to Tolkien scholarship! The boxed collectors set with the figurines comes with an added National Geographic disc that alone is worth the price of the entire set. One of the few dvd's ever to be a "must-have"

Summary: The extended version creates a problem
Review: The problem is that it's so much better, I deeply regretted ever seeing the theatrical version, which I still recall when watching this version, a distraction which breaks the movie "spell". It would be like seeing a Miyazaki film first with the English soundtrack (Save your mind! Don't ever do it!)

I applied that to "The Two Towers", purposely not seeing it in the theatre, nor will I buy the initial version of the DVD, since I don't want to make that mistake again. That assumes, of course, that there will be an extended version, but I'm willing to wait to make sure. Better still, the producers should avoid the two-step "teaser" release of the first movie and go straight to the boxed set. A repeat of the first marketing effort might be seen as an attempt to gouge, though personally I can understand the need to have both versions available.

The rest of the material on the disks? Very interesting, quite impressive, but something you watch once and never again of course.

Summary: The Extended Edition was definitely worth waiting for!
Review: Originally I saw this movie in the regular version. It was great even then...but the extended edition was definitely worth the wait!! The extra footage really ties everything together and on top of that it adds to the adventure. Definitely a MUST have.

Summary: BUY IT.
Review: If you were kind of ho-hum about the theatrical-release version of "Fellowship", then you absolutely MUST see this version. The added footage not only make the movie more coherent and understandable, but it adds more character development and depth of plot. Some scenes are a MUST for total understanding of the second movie, "Two Towers". Oh yeah... and expand your mind... READ THE BOOK.

Summary: A Ring worth wearing
Review: This is an absolutely mind-blowing and stunning work of unspeakable proportions. With the directing of Peter Jackson and a near perfect cast, "Fellowship" is brought out of the book and brought to life on the big screen and what a movie! This isn't just your typical fantasy movie. This is an experience...and it's just the beginning of what's to come later on. The extended edition makes either the Platinum Extended Edition or the Collectors Gift Set worth every penny, bringing out new scenes not seen on the regular edition of the movie. A definate classic for the ages. Well done Peter!

Summary: The Best Movie I've ever seen!
Review: This version of Peter Jackson's great film should have been the one that appeared in theaters. Having the film more than 3 hours long would have probably earned this movie the Oscar for Best Picture. Otherwise, this film is still great, even on the home screen. It incorporates about 30 minutes more into the film, making Tolkien's world of Middle-earth come alive even more brilliantly. The audio commentaries are great, especially the one including Peter Jackson because he reveals cool details about the 3rd film. The special features on the 2nd and 3rd discs are also amazing! I've had this DVD for 3 months and I still haven't finished all of the bonus features. This version of the film is great because although it still ends with a cliff-hanger, you've seen so much that you don't even think about film 2 or 3 and you sit there just totally baffled at what you have just seen (Like I did). In conclusion this film is the best DVD of 2002 and the best movie I've ever seen!
