Summary: Go get it
Review: (written before DVD's release)
An excellent engaging series, hurt on television by the medium: you've got to see every episode and you've got to see them in order, or it won't do much for you! Even with FX repeating episodes a week later, it was hard to keep up (many episodes were never aired again after their original week). This is why delivering a DVD of the whole season is perfect, perfect, perfect. I was so glad to hear that Fox had decided to release this to DVD.
Although the series is slated for a second season this Fall, the first (this set) can easily be viewed as a stand-alone plot-line (no apparent cliff-hangers were left, for instance). It is also rumored that Fox has some special features planned, such as including an alternate ending (!) I'd also like to learn more about the changes they made to the first episode (it was filmed before 9/11 but slated to air after, and needed some sensitive touch-ups relating to its terrorists and particularly an incident with an airplane) and hope that these will be detailed on these DVDs as well.
I definitely plan to buy this right away. The price can't be beat for the scope (24 hours of tv!), the plot, or even the casting. You should get it too.

Summary: DON'T Miss This!
Review: Everything you've heard is true. Yes, 24 is one of the most innovative shows of all time, yes Kiefer Sutherland is excellent, and yes Dennis hopper's Serbian accent is a crime. This has been the most involving show I've ever seen and the last 5 episodes had me on the edge of my couch. Sure, it dragged at some places, and some of the plot devices were ludicrous( have you ever known someone with instant amnesia?), but that was not enough to bring down the highlight of the 2001-2002 television season. DON'T Miss It!!

Summary: Best Series ever!
Review: I have been watching "24" on FOX Latin America. The final episode aired yesterday and was absolutely great! I can't wait to buy this DVD. There were some plot twists that I didn't like so much but overall, it was the best series I have ever seen. I think everyone should see this series, you have to think of it like a very long, long, long (24-hour long) movie. Everything takes place on one single day, from midnight to midnight. Each episode covers one hour (real time) and that's why there are 24 episodes and that's why the show is called "24". You have to buy this DVD when it's available, it's that good.

Summary: Much more than an innovative format
Review: Add mine to the huge and growing number of glowing reviews of 24.

This is a dark story with real, 3-dimensional, flawed characters - especially including the protagonist, and a riveting plot with many twists and a *very* satisfying conclusion. That not all its story lines have a happy ending in the last episode is much to the show's credit - it would have been cheap and very artificial if things had gone differently.

And kudos to Fox for taking the risk to share with us a dark show with a flawed hero and a show with such an innovative format. You just don't see stuff like this on the big 3 networks.

The real-time format is the first thing people (and critics) notice about 24. But 24 is so much more - well-developed characters, excellent writing, high suspense, emotional impact.
I hope the video release will turn more people on to this important show, so that its 2nd season will be the commercial success that it truly deserves.

And what about the editing. Before 24, you never pay attention to the editing of a television show. But in 24, the editing is amazing - it's high quality is obviously critical to the show's suspense and the real-time format.

24's fans are extremely loyal, and 24 enjoyed excellent word of mouth and much critical acclaim (garnering *ten* Emmy nominations). Yet it was not highly rated: many potential viewers thought that they'd be lost because they missed episodes. Not true - every episode begins by introducing the characters and recent plot developments that are relevant to what will happen in that episode.

I agree with others that some episodes and some plot developments were not up to the overall standard of excellence of this series. But the majority of 24 was so amazing that you don't mind sitting through the relatively few episodes that are merely "good".

I've read elsewhere that this DVD set will contain an alternate ending and commentary by Kiefer Sutherland on season 1 and a teaser introduction to season 2.

As I write this, Amazon.com's price for the first season of 24 is [item price]. To put this in perspective, remember you are getting 24 hours of programming (plus extras) for about the cost of two typical 2-hour DVDs. A steal.

Summary: THE Best Show EVER
Review: This is THE best show ever. It was incredible. Every episode was fantastic and on the edge of my seat. Twists and turns everywhere! One of THE best finales I've ever seen...a moving finale that will make you drop a tear or two.

For those who haven't seen this show or was too late to get into it...Buy this DVD! Trust me and everyone...it's a great deal and it's the best.

Summary: Best thing on tv - but still
Review: Although this series was the best show on television in its time slot - it still has problems which will become even more apparent when viewing it in its DVD incarnation.
First, while the story involving Jack Bauer and his work at CTU is interesting and suspenseful, the parallel storylines involving his wife and daughter become more and more ludicrous as the story progresses - the daughter's trials become more and more frustrating as she escapes from her captors and is recaptured multiple times. Even worse is the amnesia suffered by one of the characters following a tragic accident.
Second, I doubt the program will be as intriguing the second time through. While I tuned in each week to find out what happened next, I don't believe that I will be able to sit through the slower moments in the series for a second viewing. There was certainly a lot of exposition that seemed to slow down the show at times.
Additionally, will there be an explanation as to how the 24 hours now becomes 18 hours without commercials? What is the cast doing with that extra 6 hours of daylight?
Minor complaints aside, the show was strong enough to keep me watching, but barring any interesting extras (such as the original pilot with the full scene of Mandy blowing up the plane) I don't think that this DVD will be able to sustain my interest for a second go around. While I can recommend this set for Keifer Sutherland fans (he really is fantastic as Jack Bauer) - I don't believe that the series lends itself to a DVD collection. The biggest problem being that the show is built around a gimmick of sorts and opens itself up to narrative problems in the facilitation of its real time storyline. I do believe, however, that the writers will be able to make the necessary adjustments to the formula so that, in season two, the show isn't quite so rocky and problematic. I'll still be there next season - but I don't think I can watch it again.

Summary: Finally getting its due...
Review: 24 is hands-down the finest dramatic television series that has been around in a VERY long time. The plot is thick and suspenseful, the format is enthralling and revolutionary, and the acting is top-notch. However, despite critical praise and strong fan loyalty, the ratings were mediocre and the general public never caught on. But the true fans knew this was something special, and maybe with this release, the rest of the world will catch up and make season two a success. Please...BUY THIS DVD AND SUPPORT 24. You will not regret it in the least.

Summary: 24 Gripping Stuff - Possibly the best TV to come out of USA
Review: Absolutely excellent edge of the seat TV. I have never made such an effort to ensure that I am in the house to watch a TV series.

Despite a few (minor) technical inaccuracies, 24 is definately the best US TV I have ever seen - Bar None. In fact I find it difficult to believe it is a US program (note US spelling!).

I hear there is a new series coming and I honestly don't know how this level of tension and nail-biting terror can be carried through to a long term series.
I hope it can.

10/10 for Michael S. Chernuchin (writer) Jon Cassar, Davis Guggenheim, Paul Shapiro, Winrich Kolbe and of course the cast - esp. Elisha Cuthbert (Kim Bauer) who plays the spoiled brat so well, she runs the risk of getting type cast!!

Well You know where I'll be that day. "24" Stars Keifer Sutherland as counter terrorrisim unit agent Jack Bauer. The episodes are one day in his life. As he says,"Today is the longest day of my life". With the many plot twists and the feeling that our hero is never out of danger gives the Edge of your seat suspense. BUY THIS DVD SET!!! Summary: What a Breath of Fresh Air . . .
Review: At last! Thank you America! Just what we've needed in Britain for a very long time. Gone are my days of watching endless cardboard BBC hospital and costume dramas. This show is the only reason I turn my TV on. The week I have to wait between episodes seems like a month. The quality of the plot, acting, photography and direction is superb. It's a real precedent setter for the TV mini-series. In a way I hope they don't do a second season - it definitely ain't broke and no-one should try to fix it - you can't beat perfection. You don't need to know anything else about it! Just watch one episode and you'll be completely hooked. That's a promise.
