Summary: Is Disney animation growing up?
Review: This would be about the 40th Animated(cell) Movie,put out by Disney,and the first one with a pg rating.Also no song's through out the movie ,but nice musical scores.The story is good.The cell art is weak.The Cgi is really nice.This movie warrents a 3.5 star rating.But pg -where did that come from.This movie is not as intences as the rating will make it seem.Two of the worse things(rating wise/not story wise) about this movie is the opening distruction of Atlantis & the fact that put the word death in it one two many times.All in all .Lion King had more of a dark nature too it.One plus is the hero is a defferent kind of hero ,not a tough guy.This is kind of refreshing.Voice by M.J.Fox THE STORY-Opens with disneys version of the sinking of Atlantis.Switch too early 1900's - we see our would be hero ,Milo-the musume boiler room employee. Who happens too read,speak,&writes dead language.Along with tons of modern ones two.He is called upon bye an old freind of his grandfathers too forfill a quest.So with a group of hired men & women he is off too find the lost city of Atlantis.When they get there the hired help turns out too be a group of Mercs out too make a profit.But with the help of Milo & the freindly Atlantiens some decide there are more important things then money.These few help our hero too get back the heart of Atlantis and her new queen.

Summary: "Atlantis: the Lost Empire" questions what if?
Review: The whole idea of Atlantis was first brought up by Plato, in 360 B.C. Being that HE was the first known human to discuss a possiblity of the island, I do not believe that he discussed it in literal terms but metaphorically. But what if there really was an island called Atlantis that rested on the bottom of the sea? "Atlantis: the Lost Empire" answers that very question. It is a far stray from the normal animated picture, beginning with there being no song and dance numbers. Disney toyed with the idea in "Tarzan" but even that had a little singing. It is possible that Disney is trying to bring in an older audience that would otherwise not see a musical feature. The film is set in 1914, which is a time period that is used in many movies such as this. The story begins with Milo(Michael J. Fox), a janitor at an institute who can't seem to make the scientists there believe that Atlantis actually exists. His attempts make us think of James Spader in "Stargate". He is called by Preston Whitmore(John Mahoney), a reclusive billionarre who knew Milo's father. He put together a team to go the the hidden Island, all based on THE SHEPARDS JOURNAL, which had belonged to Milo's father. It is the journal which will lead them to Atlantis. So goes the team, which is composed of everything a good team would need: the team leader is Rourke(James Garner) who has a hidden agenda(isn't that always the way), and includes the mechanic Audrey(Jacqueline Obradors), Helga (Claudia Christian), who is Rourke's right hand woman, Cookie the cook(Jim Varney in his final role), Vinny(Don Novello) who is in charge of explosives, Moliere the Mole (Corey Burton), the digging expert, and Mrs. Packard(Florence Stanley) who supposedly is in charge of communications. Much of the over 200 person crew is killed by the guardian sea creatures but the survivors are still able to make it to Atlantis by falling down a long dead volcano. There Milo meets Princess Kida (Cree Summer), who is trying to help her civilization of Atlantians who have been living since the fall of Atlantis. They have lived so long because of an ultimate power source which accounts for them being so far ahead of us in technology. Now lets get to the climax. It definitely breaks new ground for Disney with its many different types of aircraft shooting at each other and explosions going off left and right at the same time. Character animation in this film is also very different with a chiseled look to it. There are two large risks that Disney took with this movie. First, bringing out a movie with traditional animation in a year that is crowded with computer generated films. Second, releasing the film on the same day as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider". They wanted to get an older demographic but it will be hard considering that most teenagers would rather see "Tomb Raider". This film is good enough to take these risks. They might not get the older demographic, but younger children will still be dying to see this film. "Atlantis: the Lost Empire" may not be as good as "Beauty and the Beast" or "Tarzan", but it delivers the goods. See this movie where it should be seen: in theatres.

Summary: Kick Butt Disney Movie
Review: I loved this movie, it was so cool. The part I loved about it was that the imaginative view and the magical part of it was awesome. the part I didn't like about it was that the girl characters have those model bodies and everyone thinks those bodies are bad for our little girls including me. Well I hope you love it as much as me.

Summary: Dissapointing...
Review: I had much higher hopes for this movie. For starters, there was no character development at all. Milo was the only one that we knew anything about and who anyone could possibly relate to, but even his relationship with his grandfather was more contrived than usual for a Disney film. I was shocked at the way that the film tried to include minorities-- in a very type-cast/stereotypical way. There was an Italian who worked in a floral shop, a smelly dirt-loving Frenchman, and a Latina woman who's highest ambition was to open an auto shop. The "international" cast did more harm than good. The scenes were choppy and the characters more flat and uninteresting than normal for a Disney movie. The most interesting part was Atlantian-- the artificial language. ..." Suggestion: don't bother. Spend your money on something worthwhile like Shrek. ...

Summary: Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Review: Atlantis: The Lost Empire, has got to be one of the greatest Disney movies yet. With it being very highly anticipated and alot of advertisment, Atlantis lived up to all the hype. The story was very creative and interesting. The characters were very likable and the illistrations were great. Michael J. Fox did an excellent job voicing Milo Thatch who is in search of the lost city of Atlantis just like his grandfather did. A man gives him the oppurtunity to when Milo gets a present from his grandfather called the Shepard's Journal which is a map to find Atlantis. Milo and his crew go on the underwater journey and the crew isn't nice to him at first but they learn to like Milo. The journy is a rough on and it takes many lives but the acheive there goal. Money and greed take over some of the crew and causes conflict. The story is great and I think everyone of all ages can enjoy this film. Also, if your a parent theres not singing and all that stuff like in regular Disney movies, it is a just a movie that is great. This is one of the great films of 2001.

Summary: Very entertaining, but too fast paced
Review: The movie starts out with a young man named Milo, who is convinced that the ancient city of Atlantis actually exists. He tries to use ancient documents and legends to make his case that a museum in Washington DC (presumably the Smithsonian) should fund a project to help Milo find Atlantis. Unfortunately for Milo, the commission won't even listen to his case. As it turns out, Milo is the grandson of an explorer who also tried to reach Atlantis, but failed. He (Milo) ends up meeting a man who agrees to fund Milo's project and even provide submarines, equipment, and a motley crew of rather amusing characters to help Milo in his mission. Most of what I've mentioned so far occurs probably in the first 15 minutes of the movie. From there, the movie gradually becomes more and more incomprehensible. The pace of plot development moves even quicker and the viewer is left with little to no background of what is going on. Add on to all of this a very weak love story between Milo and the princess, some really powerful crystals, and an illiterate city of people who happen to be able to speak every language (figure that one out!), and you have this Disney film called Atlantis. Having said all that, there are some folks to whom I would definitely recommend this movie. If you're looking for a good time with a bunch of friends, this is a good movie to see with a bunch of your friends. The jokes and plot holes throughout the movie make it very entertaining, and a worthwhile ice breaker. I would also recommend this movie to anyone who follows Disney movies. If you do follow Disney movies, you may recognize some of the background schemes recycled from previous movies. For example, one friend of mine thought that the beginning of the movie was from straight out of 101 Dalmations. Of course, I've never seen 101 Dalmations, so I wouldn't know. I'll let you decide whether she was right :) I would not recommend this movie to anyone who goes to the theater alone or on a date (unless of course if your date happens to be a Disney fan). Certainly, I also wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a good quality movie.

Summary: Animated version of SG1
Review: I couldn't help but notice the similarities. Some obvious, some I had to look for. Milo is Daniel Jackson, his background even the same. The cartoon even looked like him. The storyline too similar to the original Stargate movie. Vinnie, with a few extra touches is Jack O'Neill, Audrey is a black haired Sam Carter. Teal'c is so obvious I won't go there. Christopher Judge must have been the model for the cartoon image. All that was missing was the gold tatoo. And of course, Commander Rourke, the infamous Colonel Maybourne. I saw this movie for the purpose of escape and entertainment, but ended up seeing Stargate SG1 in animated form.

Summary: "I didn't say it was the smart thing to do . . .
Review: . . . but it's the *right* thing." Okay. This is not, BY A LONG SHOT, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, or The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Uh-uh. No songs, no cute animal sidekicks (unless you count Mole, but that's not really fair . . .), and *gasp* a PG rating for violence. Never thought I'd see the day. Disney doing a PG animated feature! Wow. I, personally, love this movie. It's not quite the same caliber as The Emperor's New Groove----but this isn't a comedy, it's an action/adventure/drama type. Okay, the other characters could have been developed a _little_ more. Fair 'nuff. But first of all . . . God, isn't ANYone out there just a WEE bit tired of the hero and heroine falling in love?!?! How in HEAVEN'S name could anyone want a more developed love story? NO LOVE STORY! For once, it was more about friendship than romance. Thank the Lord! The romances in films, _especially_ Disney, have gotten SO predictable. It was a great, wonderful change to not have that clouding up everything here. Romance was unnecessary . . . so it wasn't put in. As for the other characters----Milo Thatch is just about my favorite Disney character of all time, and this was *his* movie, so I have little to complain about in terms of the other characters. This movie was about _him_; the secondary characters were just that. Main characters are often the only ones developed. So was it with Milo and Kida. Fine. I liked it. :) Michael J. Fox does a _superb_ voice-acting job here; I can NOT say enough about it. When Milo talks of missing his grandfather, Fox's emotion through voice alone is enough to move me to tears. It's rare that a live-action actor can do as well in a voice-acting situation (coughcoughTITANAEcoughcough). But Fox was just . . . amazing. See it for the outstanding acting, if no other reason. This has some humor, has some emotion, has plenty of action. And has a great moral about doing what you think is right. The whole Atlantis myth I found quite fascinating; this is a movie that will keep your attention. So, forget the animal sidekicks and the we'll-put-it-in-just-'cause-that's-how-it-ALWAYS-works romance and give Atlantis a try. If you really take a good look at Milo Thatch and watch this guy try to find the line between idealism and realism (and I, for one, can relate to THAT), you may be surprised at how much you enjoy it.

Summary: Atlantis Discovered!
Review: While watching this film I was reminded of last year's "Titan A.E." The film wasn't the ordinary animated kid flick filled with songs and stuff for 10 year olds or below. It was entertaining especially for teenager and parents. It had action and had many likeable charcters as does this movie. In the past few years, I think that if Hollywood as suceeded in any film genre it would probably be animation. Animation has turned a corner in the past few years and with movies like "Atlantis" it will keep on growing. Michael J. Fox voices Milo, a linguist who's quest is to find the lost city of Atlantis. Preston Whitmore, voiced by "Frasier's" John Mahoney, finaces the quest to find the lost city. The team is led by Rourke, voiced by James Garner and includes many wonderful characters including Vinny (Don Novello), as the explosives man; Moliere the Mole (Corey Burton), who loves to dig; first mate Helga (Claudia Christian), the mechanic Audrey (Jacquline Obradors); Doctor Sweet (Phil Morris); Cookie the Cook (the late Jim Varney) and Mrs. Packard (Florence Stanley), who handles communications. When the crew do finally reach Atlantis they are befriended by Princess Kida (Cree Summer). She then takes them to see her father the King (Leonard Nimoy) who wants the outsiders banished. Then there's the climax which is probably one of the best aminated action sequences. It is truely done extremly well. It is a film that not only kids will like but also there parents. Parts of it may remind you of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" only done in animation especially when the ship is attacked by a leviathan before reaching Atlantis (don't worry it's not a spoiler). You will be amazed by Atlantis. As far as animation goes it's just plain old fun at the movies.
