Summary: Stop coddling your kids!
Review: Folks, movies aren't meant to teach your kids right from wrong, that's your job. Having a couple of chain smokers in an animated film is only a reflection of real life. Gimme a Break! And are you really shocked to see this from Disney? Because if you are, then you must be new to their stuff. In their film Melody Time, where we see Disney's version of Pecos Bill, he is also a chain smoker! However you may not know this from watching the recently released version of the film in which I was disgusted to find the cigarette digitally removed from his mouth, and an entire piece of his theme song edited out due to the line "Pecos rolled a smoke and lit it...". I am not a smoker, and frankly, I can barely tollerate it and wish it was illegal, but it's not and there's no reason why it shouldn't be seen as if it doesn't exist. I don't smoke and never have, and I grew up watching Pecos roll his smoke over and over on the Disney Channel. I LOVED that cartoon. I knew smoking was stupid, and any kid out their who hasn't figured it out in this day and age is obviously shy of a few brain cells. Cartoons are not going to make the difference. If you are worried, explain it to your kids, but c'mon, you can't shelter them from something they can see just by walking outside their home! Anyway, enough about that, I wanna talk about the movie. THis movie was great. Now, it was not nearly as great as Tarzan, OR Toy Story, but it was still great. I expected it to be the Disney equivalant of Titan A.E., a big action film with more CGI than hand drawn stuff, and I was pleasantly mistaken. I can't believe some people didn't know what was going on, or that some people felt it's plot was shaky, or any number of other complaints I've heard so far that mainly seem to be coming from viewers who are a little slow or, on the opposite end, have been spoiled by over-done animated films and overly serious and complicated Anime. (not that I don't appreciate Anime, but they do get carried away at times) Like another reviewer here, I too was pleased with the opening of the film. It was reminiscent of the original 101 Dalmations in it's style of art. I only have a few complaints about the film, but not enough to bring it down from a 5 star rating. My complaints were these: First off, I felt things moved maybe a bit too quickly from the calm opening to the rush of the expedition, but this may be something I'll get over upon a second viewing. Second, I didn't feel the characters were introduced or developed well enough. It was more of a video game introduction, and the backstories of the characters came a bit late in the story for me. The only character I felt for really was Milo. Also, I felt that the comedic talents of some of the other voice actors could have been utilized much more. The Mole character was not enough of a comic relief source. I really didn't find him that funny. I got the idea that the explosives expert was going to be the funniest on from the previews, and while he WAS the funniest, his best lines were shown to us in the previews. Don't get me wrong though, it was still a great, fun movie, even without an attractive female character that we tend to expect in a Disney animated film. Sorry Disney, Belle was close, and Jane would've been close too had it not been for her icky voice, but you still haven't topped the beautiful Ariel....unless you count the new animated Sabrina (but c'mon, that's not really a Disney character...is it? Well, I guess she's been Disneyfied for TV). The four females in this film were not at all attractive, though in desperation for a cutie to look at I guess the Mechanic had her moments, but not at all Disney quality. My friend who saw the movie with me said she looked like she'd been drawn for an ABC weekend Special. Ha! Maybe so, but she was better animated than that. But as for the princess, c'mon, who's gonna fall for a White haired chick in war paint?

Review: Aloha I am Kimberly saw Atlantis the lost empire last week and it is one of my fave movies !What I really like forgive me when I say this but the reltonship between Audrey and Milo they had more of a romantic effort then Milo had with Kida if you ask me !Anyway this movie is fab !

Summary: Sunken Treasures
Review: I never expected this much from the Walt Disney company.It's got the basic feel and magic of Disney and a mix of sci-fi and history.I think it was one of coolest movies ever. It's got so many different characters. Like: Milo Tatch,a guy who really believes Atlantis exsists. Lyle T. Rourke,the commander of the ship. Princess Kidagakash,in short,Kida,she is the beautiful princess of Atlantis. And there's a whole load of other cool and exciting characters who do amazing and funny things.It's a must see. I can't wait for it to come out on video.

Summary: Plagiarism, and an ugly one.
Review: So far I've only read reviews and seen previews. Nevertheless it is clear to me, that this new Disney production is a cheap plagiarism of japanese anime "Nadia and the secret of Blue Water". The story is similar, the main characeters are similar (Milo=Jean, princess Kida=Nadia, Audrey=Hanson, Vinnie=Sanson, Helga=Grandys, commander Rourke=Gargoyle).Even the character design is a grotesque (and very ugly) copy of the abovementioned anime. ... Conclusion: see the original "Nadia...".

Summary: What a great movie
Review: ...After taking two of my three children to see this on opening day I have heard nothing but "I want to see Atlantis again, Daddy" over, and over, and over... This weekend marks the third time they have seen this movie and guess what I'm still hearing? Controversial chain-smoking character? Come on. The fact is it's a part of life and has been for quite some time. Rather than shelter our children from life's harsh realities, why not sit them down and explain to them the rights and wrongs they will inevitabily encounter? Stop blaming TV and movies... Again, this is a fantastic movie. If you love your children only half as much as I love mine, take them to see this movie. I promise they will love it ALMOST as much as you do.

Review: Every time I see a Disney movie, and somebody asks me how I liked it, I generally find myself saying, "Well, it was okay, but it was no Lion King." I find that both Beauty & the Beast and The Lion King have become my high watermarks for animated films. Unfortunately, none of Disney's latest creations have come close to that watermark. Most, like Atlantis, have been relatively forgettable. Since other reviews have already given synopses of the film's action, I'll cut to the chase. What's not to like? Well, as far as children are concerned, Disney could've done without Wilhemina, an ascerbic and, most disturbing, chain smoking old woman who serves as a sort of grizzled communications officer... telephone operator. Chain smoking? In a DISNEY film? You've got to wonder what they were thinking. Aside from the tobacco-pushing imagery, the movie contains a good deal of violence. I can deal with some violent scenes (The Lion King certainly had them, as most Disney movies do), but this violence was performed with guns and other weapons and a whole lot of shooting. Personally, I think my kids are beset with enough violent images through watching television on any given day. I don't like the fact that I now have to worry that a Disney film will be filled with more of the same. Is this an enjoyable movie? Sure--it's Disney. The animation is stunning (although in terms of animation once again I have to say, "It's no Lion King!") as always, although the characters seem borrowed from Japanese anime. The storyline doesn't really have any hitches, although it's a bit predictable. As we left the theater, I asked my 7 and 9 year old boys what they thought the movie was about, and they said, "Finding Atlantis." Well, true...but my inability to draw more of the plotline out of them shows that the film was a bit over their heads. For adults and older children, I'd say this movie might warrant splurging on a matinee--but don't pay full ticket prices to see it.

Summary: Atlantis: The Lost Chance
Review: Not good. And what a missed opportunity. Whatever happened to the Disney ethic: it's only cartoons, nobody gets killed! Violent flaming death, desecration and destruction of ancient civilizations, and ugly greedy-minded characters. And this is supposed to be a Disney film. Even chain smoking is given precious Disney airtime. Walt must be turning in his grave! I suggest that the talentless, unimaginative and over-paid creatives who put this dull and hackeyed story together, sit down in the archives and pull out the reels of Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, and re-acquaint themselves with the concept of: F.A.M.I.L.Y E.N.T.E.R.T.A.I.N.M.E.N.T. This appaling film only gets two stars: one for the Disney hallmark, and, one for the poster (even though is looks like an Asia album cover). Hopefully, this film will sink beneath the waves...quickly!

Review: AND IV'E SEEN PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THEM. I FOUND IT ENTHRALLING AND EVEN TOOK MY DAUGHTER THATS ALMOST 3. WE BOTH HAVE ADHD( ATTENTION DEFICET HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER)MY DAUGHTER WHOS BED TIME IS 8 P.M. STAYED UP W/ ME PAST 12:30 P.M. WATCHING THIS MOVIE AND NOT ONCE TRIED TO FALL ASLEEP. I'D SAY THAT WAS PRETTY INTERESTING.SOME OF THE CHARACTERS MIGHT NOT QUITE BE AGE APPRORIATE BUT THEY ARE VERY WELL ROUNDED WHICH IS NEW W/DISNEY MOVIES. THEY ARE ENTERTAINING,FUNNY AND SOME ARE FAR MORE REALISTIC THAN WHAT YOU FIND FROM DISNEY.IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM W/ THE CHARACTERS YOUR CHILD MIGHT SEE IN THIS MOVIE MOST LIKELY , I'D HAVE TO SAY YOUR CHILD PROBABLY KNOWS SOMEONE ALREADY LIKE THE LADY CHAIN SMOKER IN THE MOVIE. IM MY VIEW THATS THE MOST INAPPROPRIATE CHARACTER IN THIS MOVIE. THIER IS VIOLENCE IN THIS MOVIE BUT I'VE SEEN MANY CARTOONS ON TELEVISION THAT ARE MORE INTENSELY VIOLENT, MANY OF WHICH ARE VERY POPULAR W/ CHILDREN. THE LITTLE MERMAID USE TO BE MY FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE IT'S NOW BEEN REPLACED W/ ATLANTIS THE LOST EMPIRE. I GIVE THIS MOVIE RAVE REVIEWS ENJOYED BY BOTH A 24 YEAR OLD ADULT AND A 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. I WAS EXTREMLY IMPRESSED. I WOULD EVEN RETURN TO VIEW IT AGAIN SOMETHING I'VE NEVER DONE. I AM GOING TO GRAB THIS MOVIE AS SOON AS IT IS RELEASED TO VIDEO SO I CAN CONTINUE ENJOYING IT.

Summary: Shall We Call it "Dumb" or "Dumber"?
Review: Okay . . . it's a kids' movie. You don't have to reduce the entire content of a movie aimed at the under-10 crowd to pablum, however. Disney should know that as well as anyone. The fact that this ho-hum piece should show up in the same season as the inspired brilliance of "Shrek" is somehow ironic. Does anyone over 10 actually believe that everyone in this supposed civilization has forgotten how to read? Does anyone care, considering how lifeless and flat the "Atlanteans" are (with the obvious exception)? Yep, the animation was terrific. The voice-over work was outstanding in spots. If you aren't in the target age-bracket, though, be prepared to be bored . . . for a long time.
