Summary: Not a bad movie if you fast-forward through the first 2 hrs.
Review: The re-creation of the titanic (including the boiler and engine rooms) was fantastic and well worth seeing. The story itself, however, was shopworn and predictable and the acting was one-dimensional. In particular, I found it impossible to be sympathetic for Kate Winslet's character. Overall, I was disappointed considering the hype and Academy Awards this film received, and felt that it wasn't worth three hours out of my life to watch it.

By the way, couldn't they have gotten a better artist to do the drawings that Di Caprio's character had done (that were supposed to be so talented and promising)?

Summary: Why was such a fascinating story ruined?
Review: There are few stories more gripping than that of the Titanic, so why did the movie need to surround itself around a shallow, cliched love story? The characters could not have been more cardboard -- all are good or bad, corresponding to wealth. And the dialogue could not have been more wooden -- I will always laugh at "I'm the king of the world!", "Look at this use of color!", and all the trust me, go for it, lovey dovey stuff. DiCaprio delivered lines like an automoton and was completely unconvincing as a rough lad. Winslet -- playing no matter how much a free spirit -- was more a 1998 Spice Girl (middle finger at work) than a product of Edwardian society.

Some great effects, but you do not survive being sucked down with a huge ship into icy waters.

Cameron's moralizing about the survivors is simplistic-- swamped boats killing everyone wouldn't have made much sense.

I certainly agree that "A Night to Remember" is the Titanic movie to watch. No reason to make this one, except cold hard cash.

Thank goodness for Amazon -- I feel so much better having let the world know how I feel!

Summary: Panders so badly to cheap melodrama
Review: James Cameron finally sells out completely and panders to the worst of public wants. What soes the "mainstream" want? Pretty faces, neato special effects, histrionics to cover at least 20 movies...I had thought of giving this more stars, it wasn't all that bad, but did it really deserve that many awards? It's not like this is Citizen Kane or Gone With the Wind...

Summary: Very Good and Enjoyable, but a little overrated
Review: I enjoyed this movie very much. Sure,it's not very realistic, but WHO CARES??? i have too much realism in my life. Although that romance wouldn't have happened in real life, it's still fun to watch. It does give a very realistic view of the social classes of that time. The dialouge was a little clunky at times, and they could've cut a little out of it (how many times did they run through that ship???), but overall I enjoyed it very much. The sex and laungauge were kept to a bare minimum, which is unusual in this day and age

Summary: EXTRODINARY MOVIE ABOUT THE WILL TO LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST
Review: I loved this movie - I love how it shows that Rose broke out from the pompus world she was living in to live like we all should live. But I do think that Leonardo should of been nominated!!

Summary: A Cinmetaic Masterpiece
Review: Before reading this review, scan the others already submitted by amazon.com guests. Most people hated it, (they should be committed) and the ones who liked it offered no intelligent reasons. (they were clearly Leo-DiCaprio-infatuated)

What really makes this movie so spellbinding and infinitely worthy of the Best Picture Oscar is that it is a grand, sweeping fairy tale of a story set in what could be called a long time ago in a place far, far away. Not 1912, but the Grandest Ship in the World, one which was so majestic in its glory and so terrifying in its death that it was the perfect setting for a classic story.

And such is provided through Jack and Rose, two young lovers who have absolutely beautiful chemistry. Unfortunately, one of them is Leonardo DiCaprio. Thank goodness he was robbed of an Oscar nomination; his performance threatened to disbalance the movie and ruin the spectacular human story and emotions. Towards the end of the film, it becomes clear that Rose is the main character and that Jack is no less than a plot device to help her realize that there is more to life than sitting up straight and gossip.

The Titanic herself is one of the most breathtaking cinematic effects ever created; forming a feeling of overwhelming power, grandeur, and luxury as she steams across the ocean. James Cameron's direction will not allow the camera to sit still and have the ship do its own thing; the camera swoops around the funnels and does full 360 degree turns, creating dizzying perspecives such as are yet unparalelled in movies.

James Horner's musical score is yet another breathtakingly perfect aspect of the film; the pounding music of the action sequences, the wild vocals of the great ship's death, all bring out the astounding story told by the movie to the most beautiful detail.

Titanic is truly a spectacular achievement, and ranks among the greatest movies of all time- not along side crowd-pleasers like Independence Day, but among classics like It's a Wonderful Life, Gone With the wind, and Casablanca. A true masterpiece.

Summary: How did this move make millions? Ten year old girls...
Review: I would bet my soul that this movie made its millions from all of the ten year old girls with a crush on Leo. May I ask why all of the English people were portrayed and evil (the rich people as well). Best picture? Well, maybe if you move your mouth differently so it is pronounced: "worst picture".

Summary: THE MOVIE WAS BREATH TAKING AT EVERY MOMENT
Review: THIS MOVIE DISERVES NOTHING SMALLER THAN 4 STARS. THE ACTING MIGHT HAVE BEEN BAD BUT THEY COPIED ACUAL WORKS LIKE PAINTINGS AND DISH WARE FROM THE TITANIC. PEOPLE DON'T UNDER STAND THE TIME, MONEY, EDUCATION, AND EFFORT WAS PUT INTO THIS MOVIE. ANY ONE THAT JUDGES THIS MOVIE WITH 3 TO 1 STAR DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. IT UPSET ME TO SEE PEOPLE GIVING THIS MOVIE A 1 STAR. THE STORY WAS BASED ON THE ACTUAL SINKING OF THE TITANIC. THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT SO WONDERFUL.

Summary: This film makes you think what is really important in life
Review: Okay, I admit it. I saw Titanic in the theatre four times I loved it so much! When I stop to think why it was so appealing, the first thing that came to mind was that it's a true story. I know "Jack and Rose" were fictional, but to me, that's only a fraction of what this movie is really about. It's about the tragedy of so many deaths that didn't have to happen on that fateful night. It's about the families that were torn apart and the lost love (I'm still not talking just Jack and Rose here- sadly, there were plenty more).

What this movie boils down to, is that we're all the same. In the end, it doesn't really matter how much money we have, or what we look like, we're all after the same thing- survival. Think about it.

Summary: GAG ME!
Review: Why so many people wanted to see this movie is beyond me. DiCaprio acts like someone on drugs through the entire movie. Let me get this right, he's a porr boy who lives in England, and somehow he speaks perfect English and is remarkably clean. Get real. This movie had some good points, like the special effects and the real life scenes. But i think it says somehting about James Cameron asa guy. That boat was full of people and great stories, but he had to make his up own little corny love story. Ithas horrible dialogue and corny lines galore. Basically, I think the summary says it all. GAG ME!
