Summary: Production design and scale: Excellent. Everything else: bad
Review: In terms of scale, design and visual accuracy, this film is unbeaten by all else. But the story leaves much to be desired. The fact that Star Wars fans are upset that the record for 'most poupular film' no longer belongs to Star Wars just isn't true. I think that 'most popular movie' is actually a poor reflection on the film's quality. It only means that (no disrespect intended) the majority, lowest common denominator enjoyed it. With Star Wars films, this is arguable, but most Star Wars fans like the trilogy, not because Joe Soap liked it, but because it stimulates and absorbs them in very personal ways. Now, back to Titanic. Obviously, Titanic absorbs and stimulates many people in personal ways, but the actual merit of the film is debatable. When a production like this is staged, absolute historical detail MUST be maintained. Sure, the love story is fine, but what of the famous Third Ship incedent? This was practically, and rightfully the main focus of the classic 'A Night To Remember'. And innacuracies reighn supreme in parts of the movie. Cameron would have us believe that Titanic was the fastest and most advanced ship ever made to that time. In fact, White Star never professed that their ship could be a record breaker. They stressed comfort and relaxation. The pivotal point of the story should have been the bad luck, tragedy and co-incidence that doomed the ship, not a soap-opera set aboard a ship. Redemption for the movie comes in the form of fabulous costumes, design accuracy and staggering visual effects. Other than that, it is a contrived and often irritating tale, let down by historical inacuracy towards the end. I think that Cameron should stick to films like True Lies and Aliens.

Summary: Great the first time, not so great the second time.
Review: I personally hate chick-flicks and this is definitely one, but the first time I saw this movie I was enthralled by the effects and the quick development of the characters. However, the second time I watched it, I saw the movie's flaws, which were many. For one, the movie is told throught the eyes of Rose, yet she knew what happened with Jack when she was not around. The dialogue is weak and contrived, but the story is very good. Good performances by Winslet and Dicaprio.

Summary: HORRIBLE, JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE!!!!
Review: This movie sucked!!!! It was really bad, it was stupid!!! The only reason all the teenagers liked it was cause of leo, and he sucks as an actor too. This movie should just be thrown out or burned or something cause it was horrible!!!! It had a stupid plot, and by the end of the movie, i wanted to cry not cause it was sad, TRUST ME but because it was a pathedic display of motion picture history!!!!! If you want to see it, then see it, but it sucks!!! This doesn't even deserve not even one star thats how bad it was, and everyone made such a big deal about it when it wasen't even good!!!!! But thats just me!!!!!

Summary: Stop complaining, Star Wars geeks!
Review: It is evident that most of the people responsible for trashing Titanic and giving it a bad image are Star Wars fans who just cannot bear the fact that Titanic dethroned Star Wars as the most successful movie of all time. Many of the comments are completely irrelevant: Titanic deserved all the acclaim it had received. Unlike Star Wars, which is well crafted but completely unconvincing movie, Titanic offers emotional experience never seen on the silver screen before. Titanic's screenplay is not great, but don't tell me Star Wars was better in that department. Acting is certainly better in Titanic. Music is great in both films, but whereas John Williams has nothing to work on in Star Wars (it is a completely emotionless movie), James Horner can elevate the emotional impact of Titanic to divine levels. Russell Carpenter's cinematography is, like the music, absolutely stunning. Not only does he convey the ship's glory and sad fate by the great camera movements and angles, he also makes us enjoy every piece of dialogue in the film. Directing is another category in which James Cameron outclasses not only his 1997 competitors, but also all other directors in the history of mankind. Cameron might be proud of himself but rightfully so: to direct such an expensive, complex and difficult project, one must be a genius. All of you people complaining about James should try to imagine what is it like to be working on the most demanding film in history, and how much enthusiasm, devotion and talent does it take. As you see, I don't need visual effects to like Titanic. For me, it is the greatest film ever made and in my humble opinion, it might take several decades before somebody makes a better film. And one more thing: those saying that Titanic did not deserve the 11 Oscars don't understand movies...

Summary: It sank....get over it
Review: It sank. It was sad. But seriously, does a story over the horrible tragedy win an Academy Award for best picture??? No acting skills, all the movie had was good special effects, but that shouldn't have been enough to win an oscar. What next for the academy?

Summary: Unoriginal,uninteresting,dull...um,boring
Review: Ugh......What a horrible movie! Shallow, typical plot, annoying, flat, one dimensional characters, sickening melodrama, and, worse of all that disgusting Leonardo Dicaprio. The only watchable part was the special effects.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Nice special effects
Review: Look, I know we are all sick to death of Titanic, but that doesn't mean it was a bad movie. The special effects were the best I've ever seen, and that alone earns it high marks. The plot was cheesy and the acting mediocre. (Only James Cameron could work sex in the back seat of a car and gunplay into a story about the Titanic. Give me a break, Jim.) If you buy this movie, simply skip the first tape and watch the second part. That's when it gets really good.

Summary: The only reason it gets one star is cause its the lowest.
Review: My God!

Somebody over at the Academy must have had something with lunch the day they chose it as best film, because honestly I can't tell how it could win this prize. The plot stunk worse than that jar of maynonaise in my oven, the acting was absolutely atrocious, and the romantic subplot seemed useless and only included as filler.

Trust me. Go run a marathon, or build a lifesize model of the CN Tower out of rice. It'll take less time and be a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

Summary: FANTASTIC!!!
Review: Anyone who does not want to lose sight of what courage, honor, and true-love really mean owes it to themselves to buy this movie! At a time when countries are killing their own people ala-Adolph Hitler; when children are killing their own classmates; when babies lives are being snuffed out before being given a chance to begin, it's nice to pop this movie in and, if even only for 3 hours, lose yourself in the fact that love can endure, even against the most incredible odds and in the face of the most horrific tragedy. Anyone who wants to hold onto this mooshy, hopeless-romantic side of themselves (even if they don't want to admit it) MUST buy this movie. And for those who really enjoy the way a movie is made, allowing their minds to be lost for a while, the special effects on this movie cannot be challenged!
