Summary: Excellent Disaster Movie
Review: This film is fantastic, especially if you are a disaster movie fan. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it even better. I have so much respect for those people risking their lives so the rest of us can enjoy seafood. Plus, the actual storm of 1991 was so powerful, a movie was needed to tell the story. I notice some people didn't like this movie--but hey, it's a DISASTER movie, and these movies usually don't draw the positive attention that boring dramas and love stories get. You will love this film if you enjoyed Deep Impact, Twister, and Dante's Peak.

Summary: New England Fishermen
Review: I feel like I am in the minority here...but I like the movie. And I have heard the People of the town thought the movie company did justice as well. How do you tell a story of a lost fishing boat where all hands were lost. We do not know what actually happened on board, and which of the subplots and events that were added in to brighten up what was an otherwise sad story. The Andrea Gail sets out for a late-season fishing voyage right before a number of meteorological events trigger one of the largest storms in history on the Eastern Seaboard. We get to see many events that occurred including the perils of a yacht, a Coast Guard helicopter crew, and the fishermen on the Andrea Gail.

I feel they captured the town and fishermen. the time at the begining of the movie is required so that you can see why the men were willing to take risk going out so late in the seaon to fish again. I enjoyed the little look into New England fishery.

The boat, the men and the action on the high seas is great to watch. The storm effects (CGI I'm sure) were also very cool. Both George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg do a fine job as the captain and crewman, respectively, of the doomed Andrea Gail. I will keep my DVD and watch it again....

Summary: 1 star is way to many!
Review: It started out slow and it was hard to follow. And at first when the boat starts to sink it is kinda exciting but it take 2 hours for the boat to sink and it just keeps repeating. If you want to to have more fun just go look out the window!

Summary: Like Backdraft?
Review: The Perfect Storm plot follows very closely to the movie Backdraft, except its hero's are not firefighters, but tuna(?) fisherman. If you enjoyed Backdraft as I did, you'll certainly won't regret watching this film.

After seeing the Perfect Storm I know know there is really no such thing as fresh fish (it's all frozen).

Summary: Great film on a marvellous DVD
Review: FILM - If you ask me, I don't know why people are putting down this film so much. Sure, keep away if you're too "sophisticated" for action flicks and don't bother writing reviews for it, otherwise.. just hire the DVD and surprise yourself. A great cast, and they're all pefectly suited to their roles. The build-up to the meat and potatoes (the action) of the film is far from boring, it lets you understand the characters and why they took the risk of going through the storm as opposed to waiting there, and this is normally achieved with action flicks these days. **Spoiler** - at the end when the crew all await their death, you wonder what's going through their minds and what it would be like to be in that situation, how would you feel? Go out and rent this disc, see for yourself - this film is not as bad as it is made out to be.

DVD- Reference quality audio and video, sounds great with 5.1 DD.. and some nice are included aswell.

Summary: Not the Perfect Movie, but pretty darned good FX
Review: The special effects in this movie are out of this world. On DVD, the sound is so realistic during the storm sequences you may feel like you want to wear a raincoat! And the computer graphics of the ocean waves were worth the price of admission alone when it was out in theatres. The acting was very good, and coming from someone who is not a George Clooney fan, I thought he did a great job as Billy Tyne, a fishing boat skipper in a slump. He takes his crew back out to sea, not caring about the major storm that is developing on their return path home. Mark Walhberg was great as one of the fishermen, who is hoping to get home to the woman he loves, played by Diane Lane. But to do that they will need to pass through the storm. The first half really sets up the characters and their relationships to one another, while the second half deals with the storm. I have not seen FX like this since the Matrix, and if you own a 5.1 sound system, the movie will shake your house. This is a good movie, but an excellent DVD.

Summary: Story line is more like a shower than a storm Effects OK
Review: This film suffers from a week storyline which really can't be saved by special effects and good acting. Wish I had rented first! I see lots of used one for sale.. now I know why.

Summary: The Film Maker of "Das Boot" Also Made THIS?!?
Review: This is one of the worst films hubby and I have seen in awhile. We were all primed for greatness too knowing that Wolfgang Petersen, who had made our all time favorite high seas adventure, at a fraction of the cost, was at the helm. To say this is not "Das Boot" is like saying George Clooney is not Tom Cruise. The soundtrack was grating beyond belief, oozing sentimentality and mawkishness. The writing was corny and, boy, they laid on the maudlin element with the women folk with a trowel. Then there are the actors. I know Mark Wahlberg can do better but I think I have given up on ever seeing George Clooney act anything but handsome on the big screen. Fortunately, I got this at my library for free so I didn't waste any money on it. I have the book and I hear it is terrific so I think I will simply wait until this disaster passes from my mind and then read it.

Summary: Compared to other movies for summer 2000......
Review: This movie was pretty good when you compare it to what was out there this summer. The special effects with the waves and the weather are unbelievable. The acting and the overall plot were not the most original, but the entertainment value of the movie is very high. I would rate the plot as a 3 and the action/fun factor as a 5. Sound and Picture Quality are great and are the main draws for this DVD. Nice rental, possible buy.

Summary: The Perfect Movie?
Review: The perfect storm is a great movie for watching with your loved one on a stormy night. The effects and writing are some of the bext I have seen in sometime. I was surprised that Clooney turns in such a nice performance. I went in thinking the worst and instead got on of the best.
