Summary: "The Blair Witch Project of Outer Space"
Review: I think this is what you get if you mix together the Blair Witch Project and Galaxy Quest. Take a mediocre and predictable sci-fi story, throw in a group of actors that seem to have been instructed to act as badly as is feasibly possible, and then throw in one actor (Vin Diesel) who somehow is able to go counterclockwise and turn in a powerful performance. Mix this all together and the result is something unique, different, and downright weird. There were times where I thought I had my DVD in wrong and that the real movie was on the other side. This unusual mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly winds up with about a 3 out of 5 in my book.

Summary: I bought this after reading these reviews.
Review: Don't you hate it when you follow someone's recommendation and end up buying something you hate? That didn't happen here! I have watched this movie 5 or 6 times now and I will thoroughly enjoy watching it more. This movie is probably my favorite of the genre. Vin Diesel absolutely ROCKS as a villian with a heart. I can't wait to see future works with him.

Summary: VISUALLY STUNNING SCI-FI SPECIAL EFFECTS BLOODFEST!
Review: This is truly a great sci-fi feast for the eyes! The scenes on the planet are awe inspiring and make you feel small and helpless as you are plunged into total darkness!Vin Diesel is definately making his mark with fans of this genre,I look forward to seeing him in other films,as he really makes an impression in this movie.Although they purposly keep the creatures barely exposed, you see enough of them to know they are BAD and UGLY.If you love sci-fi,definately see this one!I've watched it several times and still enjoy it as much as the first!

Summary: Perfect!
Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is certainly the best sci-fi movie to come out in years. The story, the plot, and the actors are all strong. The setting and the cinematography add to the overall effect. There's nothing predictable about this movie from the very beginning. There's no telling who will live or die. Therefore, I will reveal none of the plot. This is a great movie. I do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi or scary movies. I loaned the video to my sister, a movie buff who has seen everything. She liked it so much that she's watched it at least five times without finding a flaw. Before concluding, I must say that I fell slightly in love with Vin Diesel's character in this film. He was so sexy.

Summary: Fantastic scary space creature movie!!!
Review: In my opinion, there can't be enough scary space creature movies! I love the genre, and Pitch Black will not disappoint you.

The action starts right at the beginning, with a truly spectacular crash scene. There is a convict on board who escapes, survivors stumbling around trying to figure out what to do, the bounty hunter who wants to find the convict, and the pilot with a chip on her shoulder because of a bad decision she made trying to bring the ship in. Then one of the survivors finds a hole in the ground and the scary space creatures introduce themselves by chomping him.

They look for water, they look for the convict, they find more scary space creatures, and then discover that the planet will soon be engulfed in total darkness because of an eclipse and the scary space creatures only come out at night. They find the convict and team up with him because of his enhanced night vision, but is he really bad and is the bounty hunter really good?

Pretty typical? Yes, but with some very big exceptions. The casting for this movie was excellent. Radha Mitchell as the pilot and Vin Diesel as the convict are both talented new actors. The casting was well done, each character well performed. The Photography was superb, especially the lighting. With three suns on the planet (two yellow and one blue) the lighting at times was almost surreal. The special effects were much better than you would expect, not just the aliens but also the scene where this huge planet is coming up over the horizon, soon to block out the suns and cause the eclipse. And the aliens? Scariest space creatures since "Alien", spooky and deadly.

Pitch Black will not win any awards, but for fans of this genre it is a rare plasure to watch. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: Sleeper Hit
Review: Without repeating much of what has been said by the hundreds of other reviewers, I will comment on what attracted me to the film. Atmosphere, and moral ambiguity. What I mean is the sense of melancholy and dread that comes through strongly not only in the decent acting but moreso in the great audiovisuals (the lighting used during the movie's daylight-on-planet episode really set the tone). I thought the special effects were great, especially for being low budget, though it is my constant opinion that 8 out of 10 movies with huge special effects budgets are thin on everything else. Another reader cited "the mummy". Ugg what a terrible movie. Anyway, add a somber new-age synth score that, while watching I felt myself transplanted there doomed with the rest of the characters.

As to my second point, the main characters all had major flaws while still showing their humanity. The minor characters, however, were woefully described paper thin, despite having decent actors fill those thin roles. They could have done so much more...

With an opening scene that immediately thrusts the heroine into a morally decisive situation that doesnt result in typical hollywood fashion, you can see what I mean by "moral ambiguity".

Radha mitchell and Vin Diesel, as well as the fellow who plays the hypo-merc Johns pour out the cheesy drama, and it works.

However, as the movie progresses into action and more action, it loses its initial charm, and reduces to more typical formula fare.

Summary: Once again Vin Diesel Proves He's Worthy
Review: Pitch Black is a science fiction/horror film that borrows from the traditions of the Alien series and Tremors. In some unknown date in the future, a commercial spaceship is making a routine trip when suddenly the crew are awakened from cryosleep to find their captain dead, and an unknown planet rapidly approaching as they spiral through its' atmosphere. Unable to regain control, the ship crashlands, and all but nine of its' passengers are killed. Left to explore their new setting is one crew member, one ragtag law enforcement officer who is not quite what he seems, one millionaire's daughter, a group of devout muslims, a runaway child, an eccentric antiquities dealer, and one extremely dangerous escaped convict who also happens to have superhuman night vision.

Through careful exploring the group of survivors discover that they are not alone on the planet: their company, however, consists of a group of carnivorous aliens who are out for blood (aren't they always?). At first avoiding them seems to be no problem, as the creatures only venture out in the dark-- and with three suns the planet never has a night-time... until the newly-promoted captain, Fry, realizes that they have arrived just in time to witness a total solar eclipse that comes but once every 22 years. Convenient, eh?

In order to escape the planet alive the survivors must turn to their vicious criminial-- Riddick played by Vin Diesel. Diesel is, always, stunning. He once again shows his talent as an actor in the role, complete with moral battles and animalistic instincts.

This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. An excellent pick for any sci-fi/horror fans.

Summary: Mr. Macho in Space
Review: Vin Diesel is sooooo sexy, so why did they waste the obvious attaction between his character and the captain (Radha Mitchell)? When Vin cuts off a lock of her hair and sniffs it in ecstacy, you can fairly feel the air vibrate! I like the general story with the sometimes holes (like in horror stories when everyone in the audience is screaming, "Don't open the door! Run!"), but a couple of the hanger-ons in the script I found annoying. The effects and the bad guys were very good for a less than big budget film and the terrain certainly was bleak. The best part of the story for me was wondering who they were going to knock off next---it was fairly obvious that you didn't get lightly damaged in this film, you got really dead! All in all, a repeat viewer and one I will add to my collection of horror/sci-fi movies.

Summary: If the lights go out....Be afraid, be very afraid!
Review: Woo hoo this movie was scary! Things are not what they seem, and when you figure out what it is, it's worse than what you thought. It's like the most hideous nightmare, being "out-there" in the dark with things trying to get you, plus you've got a violent convicted murderer to worry about too. But,let me tell you, I'd love to meet this dude in a dark alley! Ladies, see the movie, even if it's just to get a gander at Riddick (Vin Diesel). I found the movie to be very enjoyable and well worth seeing again and again, but then, I am a total Vin Diesel Addict, so I guess I'm a tad jaded when it comes to my opinions. Again, I loved the movie, Vin Diesel and Radha Mitchell were awesome!
