Summary: Kids think they have it all
Review: I saw this movie for the first time in a THEATER back in 1982/83. I then recorded off TV in 1989 and have watched it about 20 times since. I agree, the story is a little hokey at times but you have to look at the whole picture (no pun intended), it was ground breaking and innovative, kinda' like Metropolis was in it's time. I don't have a DVD player (yet) so I ordered the video (brand new) and have watched it a few times. It gets better and better each time. I wish they would revamp it and re-release it again in 2002 for it's 20th anniversary. It sits right next to my other ground breaking videos (Star Wars, Blade Runner, Toy Story). My 7 year old loves it and asks many questions about the "olden days"..you know...PONG and Lunar Lander.

Bottom Line.....GET THIS MOVIE!

Summary: TRON Rocks!
Review: This film came out in the summer of 82. This was a good summer for films(E.T., Star Trek II, Rocky III, Poltergeist). I recently checked the digitally remastered vhs out and hope to find this one on dvd soon. Nothing but fun! The soundtrack by Wendy Carlos kicks(good tune by Journey-ONLY SOLUTIONS also). It is fun to see how dated the computer hardware technology is in the film when the actors are busy typing on those old TRS models! (ha ha). David Warner makes a truly evil villian as does the voice of MCP. Cute Cindy Morgan is always fun to watch(have always wondered what has become of her since her Caddyshack days!).Jeff Bridges swaggers around the screen much like Han Solo. Light cycle chase is awesome(remember the video game tie in to this film! ).Awesome light show!

Summary: Jeff Bridges does a great job at playing Flynn!
Review: This movie is about a couple of people who decide to go against a corrupt business man individual who obtained riches with the aid of the evil MCP-or master control program. It is the job of these computer people to put the bad business guy out of circulation. Jeff Bridges plays Flynn, a computer brain who decides to go against The Mcp, what happens is that he gets zapped into the computer world by the mcp, and from there the story get really exciting. Their is alot of action, you will see the cycles, and the computer graphics are amazing. I also have to say that the musical score is fantastic, Wendy Carlos does a fantastic job. This picture also includes Bruce Boxleitner, he came out in a show called "Scarecrow and Mrs.King" which aired a couple years back for a big tv network. It also has actor of the past David Warner if i am correct. If you like the game alot, you will like the film. This movie is a master piece, and Jeff Bridges does an awesome performance. The only complaint I have is that he did not get the pretty girl in the end. But it is good vs evil. Can you just imagine if their is a part two for TRON later, Imagine JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME PLAYING THE EVIL ZARK! This movie is recommended to all who love films.

Summary: Not as good as I remembered
Review: I enjoyed this movie as a kid (back when I was less critical!), but after watching it for the first time in about 12 years I cant help but feel disappointed. Why? Well, no one can question Tron's innovations in special FX, but as far as a movie as a complete thought it leaves alot to be desired. Though the film is visually stunning and (visually) imaginative, the acting in this film is downright awful at times, and the plot leaves alot to be desired. (And has Disney ever made a film over 90 minutes?) People say that this film started it all as far as CG goes...true. But is this a good thing? Seems like this movie just told filmakers they could rely on eye candy to sell tickets, with little effort put into the script - this trend really started kicking in in the early 90's and is progressively getting worse. I must use 2001 as the standard for all sci fi films, it had great FX combined with an incredible story. 2001 (and Jurassic park, for that matter) shows how FX can be used to acheive a complete cinematic experience, this film just says "Hey, look what our toys can do! " The DVD is downright cheap, a la Disney, with virtually no extras and a crummy piece of paper with chapter titles as opposed to a booklet (which is why i bought it used rather than give my money to Disney). The picture quality was crisp, but for some reason this DVD pauses slightly during chapters, which Ive never experienced on any other DVD's I own, including the Matrix. All in all, its acheivements in SFX cannot be denied and must be applauded. However, this film really now only serves as either a trip down memory lane, or as a historical piece in the progress of SFX. With a better script this movie would have been dynamite...oh well.

Summary: EXCELLENT MOVIE!
Review: I havent seen the DVD version so Im not sure what problems people have had, but I can review the movie, (and what an excellent movie it is! )

Being a kid when video games were relatively new, Tron fulfilled all my dreams of being in an actual computer game! Imagine VR without the head gear, cool or what! Though the graphics arent up to todays standards, its still a visually stunning movie thats always entertaining.

What can I say about the cast, Jeff Bridges, Michelle Pieffer and Bruce Boxleitner, are well suited for their respective roles, enhancing the movie with acting talents.

Though this movie is old, kids these days might not enjoy it as I do, but then again this is a classic! If you like the idea of being transported into another world, and fighting your way back out with the help of some damn smart computer gen individuals then Tron is for you. Get a hold of a copy and enjoy.

Summary: It all started here.
Review: Toy Story, A Bugs Life, Antz, Starship Troopers, Small Soldiers etc... they owe it all to this movie for taking the first step. The art of CG animation began with Tron. (well, more or less anyway...) While it's still somewhat pleasing to the eye even today, I feel a little sorry for anyone who is seeing it now for the first time, instead of in 1982, when it was quite literally mindblowing. The fact that I was a 13 yr old hardcore videogame addict at the time enhanced my viewing pleasure, of course. Still, this movie does have a beautiful visual style that has never once been duplicated.

Here's a bit of Tron trivia: it was originally planned to be a regular hand-drawn animated feature.

Shame on Disney for chincing out on the DVD frills.

(Note: This review was written two years before the release of the 20th anniversary edition DVD, which is BURSTING with great features.)

Summary: Okay, so it's not the most intelligent sci-fi ever...
Review: I saw "Tron" at a young age, and was highly-influenced by it. I instantly became a video-game junkie as well as a fan of sci-fi, where as before my interests rarely strayed from Star Wars movies and KISS records.

True, it's not the most scientifically plausible of plotlines (computer hacker gets zapped into video-game universe where he is considered a "program" and must battle the Master Control Program to defeat a scheming corporate butthead from the real world who stole his video-game ideas) but who cares! In it's time, it had some of the most astounding visuals ever beheld by the human eye. True, the standards have been raised over the past years, but I think a lot of it still holds its own in sheer imagination quality.

Jeff Bridges manages to get off a few good lines here and there, and David Warner is always a good hammy villian, reminiscent almost of Vincent Price or Christopher Lee.

Plus, if you stick around through the end credits you get a decent, durn-near-impossible-to-find song by 70s-80s rock group Journey.

The DVD transfer is great, too. This is one of those movies that's just not as fun without really good sound and picture, and subsequent VHS releases have fallen short to say the least.

Summary: Dynamic for 1982
Review: The special effects worked for me. I saw it for the first time on DVD in December of 1999. I personally am a Communications major and I just loved the effects..state of the art as they were from 1982. It really is interesting. Jump into the mind of the past and take a ride! I totally loved it.

Summary: Music Based on Movie "Tron"
Review: We have a winter drumline at our school and the theme of our show is music written from the movie Tron. The music is great and so is the movie. Our show is very "Tron-like".
