Summary: Pure Magic!
Review: I remember the first time I saw Candleshoe. It was shown on a lazy Sunday afternoon on FOX. I was about 12 years old, a little jaded perhaps for the nature of this movie, but my age did in no way diminish the pure pleasure at seeing a young Jodie Foster triumph over obstacles. She was spunky and beguiling and instantly became my hero. I'm so glad that it has been re-released. A gem of a movie for kids of all ages!

Summary: too much fun
Review: I used to watch this movie when I was a kid, back when I first fell in love with Jodie Foster. She's fantastic, the story is engaging, the rest of the cast is excellent. Great for kids, great nostalgia value, a must for Foster fans.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Loved it as a Child, still love it as an adult!
Review: If your looking for a "G" movie to enjoy with your family without violence, language or adult themes; this is it. I enjoyed it so much as a child, and when I saw my children watching it for the first time, I enjoyed it all over again.

Summary: A teenage Jodie Foster in family-fare tale
Review: Jodie Foster plays an American hard-knocks-life kid who travels to England, and together with a small-time crook tries to swindle an old lady (played by Helen hayes) out of her fortune. Foster passes herself off as the child of a long lost relative (now orphaned), which makes Hayes feel responsible. Although the hoax is soon discovered, the two grow fond of each other, and when there appears to be no money at all in the estate, they band together to save the place from the tax man. The predictable ending is nonetheless satisfying. -- This is not a 5 star movie, but it certainly is pleasant family fare!

Summary: One of my favorite live-action Disney films
Review: Jodie Foster stars as a juvenile delinquent/orphan named Casey who's in the right place at the right time -- and has the right look. A con man hires her to pose as the long-lost granddaughter of a rich English woman (played by Helen Hayes), who lives in a big house/castle called Candleshoe. The catch? There's a treasure hidden somewhere in Candleshoe, the con man knows about it, and he wants Casey to find it. At first, it's easy for Casey to dupe "Grandma", her butler, and the four precocious orphans who also live at Candleshoe. But before long, Casey begins to feel a little guilty about what she's doing. This is a wonderful movie, with great performances by Foster, Hayes, and David Niven as the Candleshoe butler. It is one of my favorite life-action Disney films. This DVD has the movie in full screen, widescreen, and has scene selection.

Summary: There is which character is David Niven?
Review: This is one of those cute films that are safe for kids. It has the Disney signature all over it.
Casey Brown (Jodie Foster) is recruited and in cahoots with a con man and his wife. The wife used to work for the family of a castle and can teach Casey how to fool her way in as a long lost relative. Once inside she is to find the alleged treasure of a pirate captain. In the process of searching she is forced to cooperate with the family which is trying to scrape up enough money to save the castle. She appears to be softening up. Where will her loyalties lie? Is there really treasure or is it just a story? And why is the butler never seen with the gardener?
