Summary: The best (and scariest) political thriller
Review: John Malkovich is so realistically creepy in "In the Line of Fire" that no matter how many times I've seen this film, I always feel uneasy afterward. But the reason I bought this DVD is because it's one of the best Clint Eastwood movies from the 1990s (aside from "Unforgiven" of course). I love the romantic subplot between Clint Eastwood and Rene Russo's characters - the scene at the Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorites.

The friction between the Secret Service and the President's staffers seems all-too-real - even moreso since you've got actual Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee portraying the White House Chief of Staff, more concerned about poll numbers than the President's safety.

It was filmed beautifully and looks great on DVD. I have the no-frills version, so I can't comment on any of the extra goodies in the special edition version except to say that either edition is a worthy addition to your DVD collection.

Summary: Best Assassination movie ever.
Review: This movie gets better everytime I watch it. It catches a super look at a crazed citizen and how easy it is...in theory, for somebody to actually assassinate an American President. John Malcovich, especailly, is AWESOME in this movie. He plays a sick sick man who develops an obbession of death and killing the president of the United States. Clint Eastwood plays one of the Presidents body guards in the secret service. He has been on the force for a long time and he is struggleing with retirement. When the two characters first meet we feel a tremendous rush of suspence and it holds us through the entire movie! This is an exellent movie, sometimes overlooked. A deffinate 5 star!

Summary: Exciting Movie!
Review: This movie was Clint Eastwood at his very best. Eastwood plays the role of a Secret Service agent who is in charge of protecting the President. He had previously been on the detail of protecting Kennedy in Dallas. John Malkovich is absolutely evil and sinister in his role as the assasin. He and Eastwood struggle throught the entire film. Eastwood's girlfriend also adds to the movie. This movie is tense from the beginning to the end. There are plenty of action sequences that keep the movie very

lively and entertaining. The ending effectively wraps up the movie. Buy and watch this video. You will not be dissapointed.

Summary: An action thriller that engages you emotionally.
Review: This is the first and only action thriller I think that was able to engage me emotionally. This was definitley Clint Eastwood's best role surpassing his some-what overrated performance in Unforgiven. Here he plays Frank Horrigan, an aging man still clinging on to his job as a secret service agent because he couldn't protect JFK. Then comes John Malkovich's character. Frank, living a life full of regret, is given a second chance to prove to himself and to the honor of his duty to get in the line of fire(during the climax set int he elivator, Frank finally gets in the line of fire risking his own life knowing that the snipers around the area cannot see what's taking place inside). As for John Malkovich's character, I thought it was tragic that him and Frank were basically products of the same government. The revealing of the villain's childhood photos was effective in its ability to make me feel pity for him. A psychopath who feels he's been turned into a monster by the government. A villain not seeking money but seeking closure and vacant vengeance. These were several things that made this action thriller stand out from the rest of its genre. Now if only more action movies put story first and then the explosions second...

Summary: Eastwood is excellent
Review: Showing us he can still act, Eastwood turns in a great performance. However, he showed up in terms of acting by the superior Malkovich. Great overall movie. Could have been 4 stars but I was turned of by the Eastwood-Russo relationship

Summary: Suspenseful thriller, great DVD!!!
Review: First off this film has Clint Eastwood in one of his best roles he's ever played. You can read the summary if you want to know what the film is about so I'm not going to bore you with another summary, this is a review. But it has great suspense, Malkovich plays a great, sinister villain out to get the President and puts Eastwood right in the middle which is his plan. Great soundtrack (5.1) and an impressive anamorphic transfer, and also some pretty good special features as well. Worth buying.

Summary: Outstanding!!!
Review: I just wanted to comment on the Special Edition version.

After viewing the original version DVD, this version simply puts it to shame!!

The special features are just great... Going "Behind The Scenes" with the Secret Service is a nice long segment on how they operate.. Included is a segment on "Catching the Counterfeiters", which goes into a lot of detail on the new features of U.S. currency and on how to spot a phony bill... Throw in the actor interviews & deleted scenes, and on top of it all, an outstanding film, well, you just have a wonderful DVD that is a MUST HAVE for any collection.

Highly recommended!!!

Summary: "Efficient" is right!
Review: One of the watchwords for thrillers these days is "efficient" -- as in, does it do its job and thill you? "In the Line of Fire" answers that question unhesitatingly in the affirmative. Wolfgang Petersen (of the magnificent "Das Boot") offers up a very smart, fast-moving story about an assassin and the Secret Service man on his tail.

"Smart" is another one of those words that gets applied to a good movie like this. The best movies are always about intelligent people exercising their intelligence, and "Fire" is no different. John Malkovitch's assassin character is smart enough to build a gun which won't show up on a metal detector, and can outwit his pursuers in ways that are nifty without being farfetched. Eastwood's Secret Service agent is not as ingenious, but he has the benefit of an incredible amount of patience and tenacity.

The film takes a bit to get going, but once it does, it almost never slows down and never loses us. The climax, too, is high-energy without being absurd -- too many movies like this blow what should be a snap of an ending. Ironically enough, Petersen's own "Air Force One" made that mistake: it was a terrific film up until the last couple of minutes, where a plot twist that was brewing for the length of the film is completely wasted in a throwaway moment. "Fire" never insults our intelligence like that; it's one of the most tightly-wired movies of its kind.

Summary: Action film with a heart and a brain
Review: Once again, Clint Eastwood is the central figure in an action movie. However, this time he plays a man with flaws and vulnerabilities. He is Frank Harrigan, a Secret Service agent who is still tormented by his failure to protect John Kennedy on that tragic day in Dealey Plaza. Fate hands him an opportuntity for redemption when a psychotic assasination buff targets the President. He is drawn into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the killer, who is fascinated by Harrigan's role in history as the only active agent to have ever lost a president. Harrigan struggles with self-doubt and age as he attempts to prevent history from repeating itself. An excellent film.

Summary: Good Stuff!
Review: I cannot wait till the speical edition DVd. The first DVD version was pretty good afterall. Other than The lack of no extras, but a decent Video, and audio transfer here. But think of this Extras! Do me a favor, if you get this don't eave your previous dvd version hanging, keep it some where safe so you would be a true fan of this great film with superb performances (Especially John Malkovich, witch by the way got a Acamedy Award Nominee, well deserved). If you don't have the first version, what are you waiting for. A supernatural thriller is waiting upon you!
