Summary: Crystal clear video
Review: This is an entertaining science fiction movie with crystal clear video equal to that of The Fifth Element. I wish all DVD's had video that was this sharp.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: an excellent sci-fi thriller
Review: This is an excellent suspense sci-fi film. I must say that it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. There are many plot turns and twists, and it is very exciting to watch. Charlie Sheen does a superb acting job as a paranoid stargazer who stumbles upon a mysterious frequency. He goes in pursuit of this and meets other people along the way. Some he can trust -- some he cannot. This is a great film, and I suggest you watch it.

Summary: One of the best alien movies out there
Review: This is one of my favorite films and I own the DVD version. It represents sci-fi at its very best. The photography is dazzling and the locations for the filming are superb. Charlie Sheen is a very talented actor and it shows in this film. He is perfect for the role he plays. The supporting cast is also excellent. The special effects are well done. This movie will keep your attention through its entire length. As a sci-fi buff since the '50s I can assure you that this is one of the very best and is worth purchasing. This is a 5 star film and if you like sci-fi you will love it. Buy with confidence. This is an excellent, well-done movie.

Summary: Terrific Sci Fi Flick
Review: This movie came out about the same time as Independence Day - and it is MUCH better. Fantastic plot, fantastic acting, fantastic conspiracy flick ... and pretty good special effects! You will LOVE this is you are an X-files fan, Star Trek fan, War of the Worlds fan, or if you're into really go sci fi movies. It got 2 thumbs up when it came out, but didn't have the advertising budget so it didn't get a lot of attention. But what a fantastic price!!

Summary: Rent first
Review: This movie is good. I did not say "great". It will not appeal to all. I bought it and watch it from time to time. This is not, however, a five star movie. Rent it first, and see for yourself. If you do buy the DVD, get the version with Arrival II on the same disc. It costs the same (the only way to move the second movie os to give it away, it was that bad, but free is free).

Summary: SCI-FI AS IT SHOULD BE...
Review: This movie was underrated when it was first released, and, as with all good, underrated movies, it has since become a cult favorite. Clever and imaginative, a lot was done on a limited budget to make it into a top notch sci-fi thriller. It has an intelligent and well reasoned story, and the special effects are imaginative.

Charlie Sheen, clean and sober, plays radio astronomer, Zane Zaminski, who picks up radio signals that are not earthly. When he takes a copy of the tape of these signals, which he believes to be indicative of intelligent, alien life, to his boss, chillingly played by Ron Silver, he is summarily fired from his job. Suddenly, all is not right with the world.

Smelling something real fishy, Zane sets up a home satellite and tries to zero in on the signal. He gets lucky, or unlucky, depending upon how one looks at it, and he picks up the same signal he previously had picked up. It crosses a signal given off by a Mexican radio station, which motivates him to go to Mexico and check it out.

While in Mexico, he meets a fellow scientist (Lindsay Crouse), who is there on her own investigation, as she has noted major atmospheric changes, which indicate that global warming is occurring at an alarming rate, almost as if there were a greenhouse effect. Unbeknownst to Zane at the time, her concerns are connected to his.

While at a power plant with her, he comes across a doppelganger for his former boss, which sets off alarms in his head. Returning undercover at night, he discovers that the entire plant is operated by aliens, and they are not here just to say hello. There, a series of events transpire to reveal to him an immense, alien plot. Yes, it's the old alien conspiracy story rearing its ugly head. Only this time, it is handled with surprising intelligence. Zane is now on a mission to convey what he knows to the world, but the aliens will stop at nothing to silence him. Will he make it? Watch the film and find out. If you love sci-fi films, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: This The World's Worst-ever Sci-Fi Movie
Review: This the most god-awful movie I have ever seen. The plot was just short of non-existent and the acting was downright pitiful. How anyone could have liked this movie (see other reviews) is a mystery to me.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Paranoid, intelligent, and thrilling
Review: Those three words sum up The Arrival. This film is about a radio astronomer named Zane Ziminski (Charlie Sheen) who picks up a signal from outer space. Consequently, his boss Phil Gordon fires him. But Ziminski manages to line all the satellite dishes from his neighborhood into a single array and discovers an identical signal in Mexico which means there's communication from outer space to Earth. Ziminski heads to Mexico and finds a strange power plant that is a facade for something much more sinister.

I admit this film's pacing was a bit slow, especially in the middle, but for the most part The Arrival succeeds. Charlie Sheen's performance is good and he is certainly not miscast. The underlying paranoia is there even if it does dissipate towards the final twenty minutes. And unlike Independence Day, this film doesn't overdo its special effects. Instead, the f/x arrive at the right moment, making them special indeed.

Summary: Decent movie, could be alot better. 2 and a half stars.
Review: While this movie isn't terrible by any means, it falls way short of where it could be. They had a good idea, they just didn't know what to do with it. I'm a fan of movies like Roswell... while the movie itself may not be great, im facinated with aliens and the story of what happened (or didnt) at Roswell in 1947... However, "The arrival" doesn't quite know if its made for fans of Roswell and who are seriously interested in this subject, or if this movie is for Science Fiction fans. There are alot of moments and things that will make those who are seriously interested in the subject go "OH! come on!".
While at the same time, this movie may not have enough of that kind of stuff for the ones who are into science fiction.
This move DOES seem to aim more to be a Roswell-type movie, by keeping things "realistic" but whoever wrote the script got himself into trouble by complicated things a little too much at times, and so in the end they did end up having to use things that are over-the-top even for those who believe in extraterrestrial life. Obviously whoever developed the scrip doesn't quite get it whats so interesting about Roswell, and things like that.
This movie also suffers from just OK acting, below average dialouge at times, predictability, characters are sometims too dumb.... Things like that.
Still on the entertainment aspect, this movie should do its job. Which is why im giving it 2 and a half stars... It entertains, just dont expect it to do a whole lot for you if you, like me, are seriously interested in the subject.
