Summary: Entertaining action fastasy comedy film.
Review: Director Joe Dante is best known for making films like-The 1981 horror classic:The Howling, Classic Gremlins and the sequel and Innerspace are his best films. In some way, this is a part remake of his own film-Gremlins(1984). The plot is simple about a young teenage boy named Alan Abernathy(Gregory Smith), one day, when he look after in his father shop. A friend of his, show new army toys called themselves-The Commando Elite. Alan takes the commando elite and also the Gorgonites are also new. One night of the gorgonites toys talk to Alan and he told him that another gorgonites are danger from the commando elite. The commando elite are more trouble than any one could imagine and these toys are in some way are human and The commando elite are putting everyone in danger and in trouble and the solution is getting worse in ever sense of the way. The picture has terrific CGI images by ILM are impressive, every time, you watch the movie. The only flaw is the story is not always sucessful but thanks from a nice sense of directing by Dante. Co-written by Adam Rifkin(Mouse Hunt, The director of Detroit Rock City) and Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio(Godzilla, Aladdin, The Mask of Zorro).

DVD has impressive widescreen format(2.35:1). The only Dante film, in a Panavision Scope). A short but fun behind the scenes featurette and Deleted Scenes/Outtakes. Outtakes are actually funny to watch. Superb Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Grade:B+.

Summary: Great movie.Blows Toy Story outta the water
Review: Warning-the following review may contain big spoilers.Read carefully.

This is awesome! Out of all movies in the "Robots On The Rampage" genre, this one is the absolute best.It turned out sooooo much than I expected it to.The acting was great, the plot imaginative, the script above-average and awesome battle scenes. The special F/X are OK at first, but get great later on.The stuntwork is pretty cool too (the scene where the Alan kid is on the power line was great.) The characters are highly likeable too, even if their development could've been better. The toys were really cool too. They made cool weapons flamethrowers, chainsaw skateboards, etc) and were just awesome (heck, even the Gorgonites were likeable, though a little dumb.) The music was alright, and the film was highly entertaining. This is just so fanstastic. And parents, don't worry about the violence! There's no gore whatsoever and the kind of violence is exactly the same kind your kids see when they watch their saturday morning cartoons.Overall, this is a simply brilliant movie. Plenty of action, nice special F/X,great acting Rated PG-13 for action violence and brief profanity.

Review: "Small soldiers" This is so cool. It's about toys which come alive. And then the soldiers are the bad guy's and the monsters are the good guy's. And then the monsters meet a boy. Then the soldiers try to attack him {boy}. And after that they find out that they put special chips {electronic} to make them alive. Then the people try to stop the soldiers and they do. After that the boy takes the monsters to the forest and lets them free. Then the end.

Review: Note-The following review contains some spoilers, so read carefully.

This movie is so great it deserves much more than just five stars.I was very impressed. The story and plot are very imaginative, original and creative and the execution is just right. The characters are likeable and the toys are really great. The Gorgonites are a little dumb, but are likeable nonthenless. The special F/X are pretty average at first, but get really neat later on and the stuntwork is VERY cool (I won't even spoil it for you!) The weapons the toys use are pretty cool. They range from flamethrowers, chainsaw skatebooards, nail gun tanks, and plenty more. The movie just plain rocks! And parents, don't worry! This is just fine for your little one's.If you loved Toy Story I can asure you that you'll love this even more.A LOT more at that. This is superb family entertainment. My only real gripes are that the movie is disappointingly short and the ending is a bit of a letdown. The same can't be said for

how entertaining and funny the film is! Just buy this! And one last time, parents don't be afraid to show this to your little one's.Their sure to love it! Don't let the PG-13 rating fool you! Rated "PG-13" for comic action violence, comic mischef and very little profanity.

Summary: FLAWED,BUT REALLY COOL
Review: Small Soldiers (1998)

Small Soldiers is a little too flawed to get a perfect five star rating, but non the less,it's a really really good flick.

The story is a little predictable, the characters severely lack development, some of the dialog is totally out of place, and the special effects are flawed due to overbrightened animation and looking a bit too "computery".

However, despite those flaws,Small Soldiers has a lot to offer that'll keep you in stitches throughout the entire film. There are plenty of in-jokes (keep an eye open on the trash dumpster the second time around. You'll find a figureine of Gizmo from Gremlins in it) and if your a horror movie fan,you should probably give it a look. The sequence when the Commando Elite figures jerry-rig tools from a neighbor's garage and transform them into weapons,is taken from the Hardware store scene from Phantasm II.

The story is like this: a super rich Global corporation create two lines of action figures: The Commando Elite,G.I. Joe-type mercenaries and the Gorgonites,a band of incredibly ugly but peace-loving monsters who are actually warm and friendly despite their hideous appearance.

The toys are implanted with super-intelligent computer chips which give them the ability to walk, talk and fight with enemy figures. The chips are a bit too advanced however, and the toys soon come to life.

The Commando Elite figures are hell bent on destroying the Gorgonites,as that's their programming. They create weapons from household hardware items, which include butane flamethrowers, rapid-fire nail guns, chainsaws, knives, fireworks (bottle rockets, firecrackers, etc) as well as a large number of vehicles, such as sawblade tanks,bottle-rocket launching makeshift helicopters, and half-tracks with very nasty nail guns mounted on top.

The Gorgonites meanwhile take refuge in a boy's house hiding from the Commandos (the Gorgonites are programmed to hide). However, the Commandos soon find out their location, and stage World War III in Suburbia USA.

Small Soldiers has a lot of twists and turns along the way. Despite total lack of character development, the acting is still great (the actress who plays Christy is wonderful!) and the voice-overs for the Commandos and Gorgonites are absolutely fantastic. The action sequences are also very clever and amusing and the music score is incredible and fits in perfectly. The gags in the film are also very plentiful,so expect to be laughing throughout nearly the entire film.

Overall,Small Soldiers is a very flawed yet awesome movie that desereves to be in your video collection.

On a side note, although many people argue that it's too violent for a kid's movie,it's not at all a bad film for kids.It may be a little nasty for some kids, but boys ages 8-12,who are obviously the film's target audience, will find a whole lot to like and will probably think it's the best film ever.

Summary: An excellent flick that's even better on DVD.WAY better
Review: I've reviewed this film three times and gave it a perfect 5-star rating, meaning you simply MUST see it as it's a masterpiece of epic preportions. The DVD transfer is unbelieveably brilliant.A while ago,me and my friend Ted went to BlockBuster and rented four DVD's.He has a DVD player over at his house,so I watched 'em there. The DVD's we rented were Phantasm,Friday The 13th,Cobra and this. This DVD will absolutely blow you away. The picture quality and sound are excellent. You'll never deal with the grainy vision you get from the VHS tape again. The picture is so clear you'll think your in a movie theater. The sound is perfect and you can hear everything that's going on.The extras are incredible. You get everything you could possibly ever want in a DVD. You get bloopers, deleted scenes, cool behind the scenes footage,an interactive video game demo and a lot more.Heck,it's worth getting a DVD player just to see this unbelieveable experience! I'm going to buy a DVD player soon and this is one of the first movies I'm buying with it.The price is hefty, but it's worth it.Buy it now!

Summary: Awesome special effects
Review: For pure entertainment value and eye-candy alone, I really enjoyed this film. The acting was good, even though the plot was full of holes and the script had some extremely cheesy lines. It was good to see Phil Hartman on screen, but his talent was wasted in this flick - his character was a minor one and he didn't get many lines.

The premise: a military defense contractor expands its boundaries by buying up a successful toy company, hoping to put surplus chips to use by remarketing them as toys.

Two races of action figures - soldiers (human) and Gorgonites (totally dissimilar to each other, from the planet Gorgon, both are programmed to be mortal enemies. The soldiers are programmed to win, the Gorgonites are programmed to either hide or lose.

Apparently no testing takes place before they hit the shelves and the soldiers are ruthless, ripping the Gorgonites limb from limb.

They decide that children who play with Gorgonites must also be destroyed, as they are perceived as being collaborators with the enemy. Needless to say, this is entertainmen for grownups, not for little ones.

The chips that are used in them give them artificial intelligence - the ability to learn and to create new weapons using anything they find. Almost like "Universal Soldier" along with the passion and emotion.

Archer, protector of the Gorgonites, is the true heartwarming character of the film. He is homesick for Gorgon, and even though the planet only exists in the mind of the toymakers that marketed him, he longs to be home.

Alan, a boy trying to re-earn the trust from his parents, has a hard time proving that toys are the ones wreaking havoc until they are caught in the act.

In the end, it becomes a literal fight to the death between the small soldiers and the children and their parents.

The film falls short in that it doesn't know if it's a farce, a parody, a comedy, an action flick or a drama. They try to put in way too much, so most of it falls flat.

The scenes with the attacking Barbies is more creepy like "The Stepford Wives" than it is funny, even though you get the jokes in what are supposed to be comic relief moments.

Still, this is well worth watching for the animitronics and for sci fi concepts.

Review: "Small Soldiers" is an excellent movie. Its proably a little too violent for small kids like 6 and 7, but the concept is good. The ending is speciafially awesome when the good guys win!

Summary: WHERE IS PART TWO !
Review: THIS IS A REALLY GOOD MOVIE. THERE IS A LITTLE DRAW BACK IN THE FACT THAT IT CAN BE A BIT VIOLENT FOR YOUNGSTERS TO UNDERSTAND. IT PROBABLY WOULD BE ALOT MORE POPULAR IF THE VIOLENT TEMPERS OF CHIP AND HIS GANG WASN'T SO HARSH. HOPEFULLY THE MAKERS OF THIS WILL COME OUT WITH A SEQUEL REAL SOON THAT IS A BIT MORE ACCEPTABLE IN CONTENT TO THE GENERAL AUDIENCE AND THAT IS MORE SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER KIDS. IF THEY DID THAT THEY WOULD PROBABLY MAKE SOME SORT OF GOLD MINE NOT ONLY WITH THE MOVIE BUT TOYS TOO!AND OPEN DOORS FOR MORE PEOPLE TO SEE THE 1st ONE. OR HERE'S AN IDEA THEY MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER A RE-RELEASE ON AN EDITED VERSION MAYBE A LITTLE MORE KID FRIENDLY.
ANYHOW ENOUGH ABOUT WHAT I THINK THE FILM MAKERS ARE MISSING OUT ON. It's A GOOD MOVIE WITH ALOT OF POTENTIAL. PARENTS MIGHT WANT TO VIEW THIS ONE FIRST.
WE LIKED IT ENOUGH TO NAME OUR PUG DOG - ARCHER.
