Summary: Dino-Mite!
Review: Think back to 1993 and that summer. Jurassic Park was the film event of the year and the hype was enormous. However for me this was one occassion where the movie lived up to it's press. The build up of suspense is terrific. First we see the set up of the island and learn how dinosaurs have been brought back to life. The sense of wonder was unsurpassed, I'd never seen a living brachiosaur or the birth of a baby dinosaur. This film brought alive those creatures and the wonder of the natural world. We'd all seen dinosaurs in books but never seen them live and breathe! Then, just as I became comfortable and safe, technology is overpowered and the natural world fights back. Cue some of the most terrifying and inventive action ever devised as wonder turns to fear. The raptors have to go down in history as some of the best villans ever and the T-rex attack on the cars is one of cinema's finest moments. This film, I'm sure, will remind you why you bought your DVD player in the first place and I can't wait to own it! If that isn't enough there's a whole other movie to discuss. 'The Lost World' was for me the 'Temple of Doom' of dinosaur sequels. It loses that sense of wonder I experienced with the first but almost makes up for it with some of the darkest and gleefully nasy action you're ever likley to see. Hats off to Spielberg for allowing the two T-rexs to rip a man in half, on screen! The shock value is great. The sequence involving the raptors in the grass is brilliant, really giving you the feeling of total terror and chaos when confronting these hidious creatures. Also this film boasts one of the best nailbiting, seat-gripping moments ever on screen invoving something as simple as a slowly cracking pane of glass... pure genius! I admit that the story is perhaps too slim with this second film but DVD is then the perfect medium for it as you can enjoy it scene by terrific scene without worrying about the plot to much. Each action scene is an entity unto itself, a superb mix of direction and editing and special effects talent. Just to add to these reviews I'd like to mention one John Williams, his music gives these films so much in the way of tension, spectacle and terror. The addition of his music to this box set makes this purchase an absolute essential buy, as if it wasn't already!

Summary: Finally it's here!
Review: Wow! Ever since I've had my DVD player I've wanted to hear the T-Rex roaring through my expensive home theater system. I mean thats why you spend so much money on them to see and hear movies like this. I was thrilled that both movies would be on DVD. And they are both great. Wonderful video and audio transfers. Both in your choice of DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Both are great but if your system supports it go with the DTS. All in all a great set of DVDs, no collection would be complete with out it! So buy it!

Summary: The legendary dinosaur movie :)
Review: Almost everyone knows Jurassic Park. In my opinion, one of the best ILM productions. The special effects are fantastic, and the nature scenes just draw you into the movie. Unfortunately the storie is a bit simple, the idea is OK, but the storie could have been better.

The Lost World is a classic "2". More evil dinosaurs, more rain, more darkness, and more people being frightened by the dinosaurs. The effects are still OK, but eventhough the effects in Jurassic Park might be older, they are better suited to the movie than in The Lost World, which is just a basic action/2nd-version movie.

Summary: Two classics for the new millenium
Review: Bringing these classics to DVD was a breath of relief for Speilberg fans. The movie that paved the way for today's blockbusters is beautifully transferred to the rich, sharp picture of DVD. Bringing these larger than life dinos into your home and surrounding you with the clear, earth-shattering sounds of the past, is a must for any DVD collector.

Summary: Finally, They've 'AROARED.'
Review: Well, I guess Spielberg finally decided that the time was right for his dinasaur duo to be released. If you are one of the minority not to have seen either of the films, where have you been? The first film tells of a mad genius having created dinasaur embryo's from preserved blood types found in a mosquito. Implausable? Of course! But the film isn't about science, it's about adventure and there's enough of that to boot for a two hour thrill ride as only the master knows how to control. The characters are not the most dimensional of beings but that's not really what we're after here anyway. The dinasaurs are believably frightful and accompanied by Oscar winning sound this is one DVD worth owning. But... there's more, not just the films slightly superior sequel, but additional features to delight. With a behind the scenes documentary, as well as production notes and story boards, you'll be entertained for quite some time after the films are long finished. I can solidly recommend this special DVD set for your collection.

Summary: 65 million years later
Review: Finaaly, after much too long a wait, Mr. Spielberg has given permission for the two greatest dino flicks to get the shiny disk treatment. Each of these movies is a treat. Lets deal with the original, Jurassic Park first. From the moment you see the first complete dinosaur you can see where the megabucks budget was spent. The dinosaurs look so real, it's like watching a nature movie on National Geographic! Based on the novel by Michael Creighton, this movie tells the tale of the ambitious John Hammond's (Attenborough) plans to buuild the most amazing theme park ever, populated with rides and "tame" dinsoaurs. Except things go a bit haywire and when Hammond brings dino experts grant (Neill) and Satler (Dern) to help him convince the lawyers that the park is safe it doesn't exactly go as planned. Along for the ride is Jeff Goldblum as a mathematican, who forcasts disaster with alarming accuracy. The effects are fantastic, the dinsoaurs convincing and the score by John Williams both uplifting and memorable. Spielberg directs with aplomb. A must see, especially with the extras that DVD can bring. The second movie, The Lost World, takes place a few years after the events of the first movie. Hammond has been replaced by his ambitious and ruthless nephew, who's main desire is to finsh what Hammond started and bring the "tame" dinos to San Diego where he is building a theme park that is more suitably located. Sarah Harding (Moore) is Jeff Goldblum's animal scientist girlfriend who Hammond convinces to go to the second island where the original film's dinos were bred. The abandoned site has not been visisted for years, but the dinos have grown in grsat numbers there. Goldblum is furious and sets off to rescue her with a motely crew of advewnturers. But the nephew's team are there for one reason, to capture the dinos and bring them back to mainland US. Although not as good as the original movie, with a much weaker script and storyline, this movie is still very enjoyable, especially when a certain large carnivorous dinsoaur gets let loose in a terrified San Diego! It is another essential purchase for Spielberg fans now the the great director has finally sanctioned the DVD releases of his back catalogue. Take note Mr. Lucas!!
