Summary: The trailer impressed me...
Review: ...with the absolutely perfect translation of Spider-Man's fluidity of motion and poses from the comic to the live-action screen. Examine the shots of him leaping from the side of a building, casting a web-line onto a cornice, whipping through the concrete canyons, soft-landing upside down under a lintel--perfect! You can imagine King Kirby's artwork as snapshots from these sequences. This really IS the comic come to life, and I have to say, "Well done, ladies and gentlemen!" They really did pull it off and I'm still amazed.

Toby Maguire, Willem Dafoe...big names, yes, but also big acting talent. That bodes well; you can add CG, costumes, FX to an imperfectly-cast actor and come out okay, but no amount of bells and whistles can make up for bad acting (George Clooney as Batman? Oh please...)

I don't know the plot (other than the broadest outlines of the origin story--I'd rather be surprised). But come May 3rd, I'll believe that a guy with the proportional strength and speed of a spider could become your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

It's wonderful when you see a beloved childhood icon treated with care and fondness, and very painful when the producers take a cavalier attitude toward the subject. I haven't read the comics for years, but Batman and Spider-Man and other great genre heroes became part of my childhood mythology. I love dipping into that nostalgic well, and I hate seeing those memories sullied (Kevin Kostner as Robin Hood...I rest my case.)

Let's hope they can pull it off for 120 minutes. Excelsior!

Summary: This IS Spider Man!
Review: I am now 51 years old. I was there in the beginning. The first comic books, the cartoons, television, it has taken all this time to find the perfect director and cast, visuals and audios, to recreate the way it was. I applaud you!

Summary: Youngest Spidey Fan
Review: I may only be 4 (almost 5) years old, but I know my superheroes. My first favorite hero was Batman, then I found Power Rangers. But my favorite hero of all is SPIDER-MAN and I haven't even seen the movie yet, just some cartoons! I often wear my spider-man costume and wrestle my Mom and Dad pretending they're the bad guys. I told my Mom that when I grow up I want to be Spider-man and save all the people. We're all counting the days until the movie comes out because we know it's going to be THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!

Summary: Marvel's big guns...
Review: DC comics has had it's days with the Superman & Batman movies. Now finally, Marvel brings out it's big guns with Spiderman. Oh sure, "Xmen" was a good effort. And so was "Blade" (with its sequel due in March). But Spidey is Marvel's golden boy. Like Superman & Batman, kids are BORN knowing who Spiderman is. It's going to be "Batmania" all over again. As an adult, I tend to be more cautious when it comes to movies like this one. When all you see is the eye-candy effects and no sight of a real story. I hope to Stan Lee that I'm wrong and we actually get a great plot as well as great effects & action. Probably won't, though. Spiderman will be a hit, regardless. With all of the factors the other reviewers mentioned such as the actors, director, & effects, it will definitely give Star Wars: Episode II some serious competition. Plus we get the infamous Danny ... Elfman supplying the score. Spiderman won't be great, but it will be (darn) good!! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title

Summary: From A Long-time Spidey fan
Review: I'm really looking forward to this big-screen version of my favourite comic - I've been reading all the Spidey titles for 20 years. I think Tobey Mcguire is an excellent actor, although I'm not sure about the new-look Green Goblin...but I guess I'll get used to it. My only fear is the usual one people have when a cherished franchise recieves an adaptation into a new medium - will it capture the essence of the comics correctly? I don't know how Sam Raimi will cope with handling such a big project as this, so different to his other work, but I'm pretty confident he'll do the best job possible. Let's hope so!

Summary: spiderman is totally outrageous
Review: Well, unlike many of my fellow reviewers, I am well over the
age of 13, but I still think Spiderman rules!!! I have a six
year old son and I don't know who the bigger fan is - me or him.
I can't wait to see this movie and I think it is about time the
Spidey guy got his day on the big screen. I say bravo to the
Spiderman and go kick some bad guy butt!!!!!

Summary: "You're not Superman you know"
Review: A young Peter Parker, while on a feild trip to a science facility, gets bitten by a genetically enhanced super spider, causing him to gain muscles, and better vision. Peter is now able to climb buildings with the greatest of ease, sense danger before it happens, and is able to lift very heavy things. How more amazing can you get? When all of a sudden a guy in green suit who calls himself "The Green Goblin" shows up to to make our favorite wall-crawler's life more hectic than it already is. Will Spidey survive this ordeal? Will people find out his secret identity? Will Mary Jane ever stop screaming? On May 3, 2002 the whole world will know the answers to these questions and more when one of the most anticipated movies of all time hits theater and snags us all in its web of adventure and excitement.

Toeby Maguire playing Spider-Man will be awesome. I can't think of anyone else who would be better to play the greatest super-hero of all time. Finally he will be recognized as the great actor that he really is. Can you believe they actually had Freddie Prince Jr. up for the part? Kirsten Dunst IS Mary Jane Watson. The only problem that I have (Just by seeing the previews) is the Green Goblin costume. It looks like a robot from the Power Rangers TV show.

Besides that small problem this movie is gonna rock. Be there on May 3, 2002 and experience the ultimate spin. "Hey there. There goes the Spider-Man."

Summary: CAUGHT IN THE WEB
Review: While many critics complained that the CGI effects made the movie seem more like a video game, I found the effects jawdropping, awesome and quite fun. Sam Raimi's fast-paced, lively direction perfectly propels the comic book hero onto the big screen. Tobey Maguire is perfect as Peter Parker, showing his immense range (see "Seabiscuit," "Pleasantville"), and Kirsten Dunst radiates not only a beautiful physical presence, but the quite seductive beauty of a girl becoming a woman. Willem Dafoe is the perfect archvillain, although it seems at times he gets too much the best of our hero, but in the end, spidey prevails. Cliff Robertson and Rosemary Harris do nicely as Parker's aunt and uncle, and James Franco gives a moody James Dean turn (he played him in a TV movie) as Harry, Dafoe's neglected son.
The whole production works mainly because of the heart the cast puts in, and the amazing effects. Looking forward to catching the sequel.
