Review: Conan the Barbarian is a superb film. The sound track is amazing. The fight coreogrophy is great. Arnold's acting is...pretty good for Arnold. As with most of the films from the 1980's, there are plenty of racy lovemaking scenes. Not for anyone under sixteen or so. The giant snake is cool too :) This is a classic film that will never go out of style.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE
Review: Hmm..!conan its not only a heroic movie.its a deeper look to ourselves.all human emotions are there anger, sorrow, vengence, etc.the movie has the most heroic music ever written(hail basil).the dvd is extraordinary with so many informations and detais about how the movie was made.the production photos are great.i want to say something now.the snake rise it wasnt so realistic but it was 1981 remember?and for those who wanted a final sword fight with thulsa doom i remind them that thulsa doom was a wizard not a warrior.thats why he had those 2 huge gyus to guard him.the movie its excatly like the original story.conan was the first movie that showed the way.all the others followed.
imagine if olivers stone original script hadnt been rewrited by milius.just imagine...

Summary: There is a price, Barbarian
Review: Conan the Barbarian has all the elements of a great movie - good music, good enough acting, good concepts, godd villains, etc, but falls short in a few ways. First, most of the "action" scenes, especially those in the end, aren't really any swordfighting. Basically, it's just Arnold with a huge ax hacking people. Also, what really disappointed me was that there wasn't a fight with Thulsa Doom. I was expecting a big sword fight but instead, all i got was Arnold hacking Thulsa's neck and pulling his head off. They really needed a sword fight or some kind of other fight there. Also, some of the speical effects blow chunks. I almost fell off the chair watching Arnold fight this huged plastic snake.

Besides that, the DVD is pretty good. The documetnary is well thought-out, and the commentary is fun to listen to. The speical effects and the deleted scenes aren't that special and the Conan archives or ok for a minute or so.

Summary: Conan the epic
Review: Know that during the age that fell after the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Arias, there went Conan. And while many have emulated (in modern tongue, the word has been expanded to the phrase "blatant" rip-off") his feats in book and film, this flick by John Milus and with Arnold Schwarzennegar remains faithful to the rogue hero's spirit. In some pre-modern age, an age of armies, kings and sorcerers, Conan is raised in slavery after his village is massacred by the evil Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). Hinting at many Conan stories, the script has the boy toiling for years as a slave at the "Wheel" before being sold as a prizefighter. Learning the skills of death, he is unceremoniously dumped by his owner, and finds himself a vagabond. Becoming a thief, Conan learns through a medium of his fate to rise to the rule of a modern kingdom (the story is narrated by a mystic who will serve the future king). He meets and joins forces with Valeria, a sly thief. Together, the two despoil palaces and temples - one belonging to a cult that worships Thulsa Doom himself. Conan is far too mercenary to consider vengeance against Doom...at first. Instead, he is soon "recruited" by a tired old king (Max Von Sydow, who owns one of the palaces that Conan has visited) and given an offer he dare not refuse - find and bring back the king's wayward daughter, a recent adherent of the Cult of Doom. Much adventure, pain and suffering follow.

Though taking liberties with Howard's legend, or just mixing up some stuff (Valeria was never a serious love interest - the script seems to confuse her with the pirate queen Belit; Conan does meet Doom, but the sorceror is actually a refugee of an earlier time in which he tangled with King Kull, a barbarian king of Atlantis), this flick gets the heart right and even irons out the theme underlying Conan's legend: though explicitly down on Conan's ways (in truth, we're all barbarians, is what Rob Howard says), the legend actually finds a way to weasel a sense of honor or duty out of the guy, allowing him to achieve rule over a kingdom, and hold it. The climax is not when Conan meets Doom for the last time, but immediately before his last battle, when Conan prays to Crom, the Cimmerian Deity. He doesn't pray for victory, only that people remember how the few stood against the many. This is a barbarian you can live with

Summary: HOLY.....
Review: This is a first-rate KILLER DVD release! It has a superb picture, awesome sound, and lotsa goodies too. But, the real prize is the absolutely wonderful commentary by director John Milius and Arnold. This is hands-down THE BEST EVER commentary you will ever hear ontop of a film! These guys are having so much fun recalling the making of this film and so will you when you watch it like this! I may never watch this film without the commentary again! I was laughing so hard it hurt at times. Arnold is one hilarious dude, and he keeps saying "exactly" after literally everything John Milius says. The more he says it, the funnier it gets. This may have the workings of a new drinking game - anyone remember "Hi Bob"? Anyway, BUY THIS DVD, even if you don't love this film, you'll LOVE this DVD! Thanks Arnold & John, ...YOU GUYS RULE!

Review: I've always been a fan of this film, it's very artistic and doesn't get caught up in the whole "thee's" and "thou's" that plague some historical fiction regarding pre-history, and it's not chock full of British Actors, as is the norm. I especially like how the first sequence goes by with almost no dialogue. But I wanted the Collector's edition... it MUST be better than the regular version right? It must have tons of cool stuff on it right? Nope. It sure doesn't. I like that it keeps in the deleted scenes like the original ending with the Princess and his talk with Subotai before the big battle, but what I usually like on DVD collector editions is the actor commentary...

The actor/director commentary on the Austin Powers movies is superb, it gives you a little glimpse as to things that went on behind the camera during the scene, or how they came up with a certain idea. When I saw that this edition had John Milius and Ahnold doing commentary, I decided to go for the overpriced collectors edition. Were there little stories about how ideas came up? Some... not really many. Most of it was Arnold and John describing the movie as it went along as if I were blind. "Here's me finding a sword, it was neat when we shot that." ... "The lighting in that scene was incredible."...
