Summary: A Great Movie Despite Slant
Review: This is a movie in which Charlie Sheen plays a private just assigned to Vietnam. While Oliver Stone does a great job at showing how war is hell, he (IMO) included a leftist slant to everything. However this does not detract from the fact that the movie is well done with characters we care about (or hate) and a war story that moves along quite briskly. If you like war movies, I recommend adding this to your collection.

Summary: Powerful, insightful, revealing!
Review: Platoon is, in my opinion, the definitive movie about the Viet Nam War. It is powerful, insightful, and unforgettable. The movie captures and displays insights into the minds and wills of men who fought there. There is friendship and animosity, support and deceit, hope and hopelessness. Underlying it all, though, is a intense desire among the men to survive to return home.

The epitome of the movie to me is summarized when the main character reflects on what one character described as an eternal conflict between Sgt Barnes and Sgt Elliason for his (Chris Taylor's) soul.

The movie contains solid performances throughout. Top-notch, 5 stars. Watch it once and you will never forget it.

Finally, I want to say THANK YOU to all you service personnel out there who served in Viet Nam. Too many people do you a disservice by not recognizing and acknowledging your sacrifice for all of us.

Thank you.

Summary: Powerful, nauseating, realistic.
Review: One of the greatest war films of all time, Platoon's only weakness is Charlie Sheen's lead performance, and his bad voice-over work. Other than that, Platoon has nary a weak spot in it. The battle scenes are harrowing and visceral, depending more on atmosphere and suspense than gore, and there's a bounty of good actors in the cast: Tom Berenger as the troubled but dangerous Barnes; Willem Dafoe as the doomed martyr Elias; Kevin Dillon as the sickeningly violent Bunny; even Forest Whitaker pitches in for a minor role. And director Oliver Stone's excesses become virtues in this film, the machismo of his dialogue a perfect partner to this boys-only war story. Cinematically speaking this is also Stone's visualization at its prime and a slew of classic sequences abound in Platoon: Barnes' murder of the village chief's wife and threatening his daughter; Elias being shot down, and then abandoned by the helicopter; the final desperate face-off between the VC and the platoon; the buildup to the booby trap while searching the abandoned VC camp.

An unforgettable film and a standard in the war- film genre.

Summary: STONE'S BEST
Review: This film won 4 Oscars deservedly. It is by far the best Stone movie. It will, no doubt, stand the test of time. Stone gives his message against War in Vietnam, but without forgetting one essential point: you must give a message, but the mesage must be included in a good script ! ( what was not done in "NATURAL BORN KILLERS", for example). Dafoe is fantastic, Berenger is in practically his only great part in his career.

Summary: Oliver Stone's Best and Most Personal Film
Review: "Platoon" is a great movie one of the best I have seen. After 14 years it remians just as powerful as it was when it was released. Oliver Stone has never made a better film than this though he has made some other great movies, his passion for his story comes through in evey frame of this movie. He draws great performances from a talented cast including Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, and Charlie Sheen. There is one sad aspect of this movie though, none of the cast have ever been in a better movie than this and most of their movies haven't been very good. I hope this movie will be rereleased on DVD very soon.

Summary: One of the Best War Movies Ever!
Review: One of the best War Movies of all-time features realistic and powerful battle sequences, great performances and inspired direction. Oliver Stone did a terrific job in recreating the Vietnam War for us, he showed us the war from a whole different angle; the 'grunts' point of view. Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe give their best performances, and Sgt. Barnes and Elias clash of personalities is among the best psychological battles ever put to film. Also worth mentioning is Charlie Sheen who is great as Chris, a college drop-out scripted after Oliver Stone, who droped-out of Yale and spent 15 months in the 'Nam. Powerful film, one of the greats. Extras: spot Oliver Stone in a cameo, and a young Johnny Depp. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 10!
