Summary: WOW...DON'T TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!
Review: This is an incredibly good movie that successfully crosses over into two genres: science fiction and horror. It does justice to both.

A passenger laden space ship crash lands on an apparently barren and arid planet orbited by three suns. One of the passengers is a viscious killer whose eyesight is such that he can see better in the dark than the others.

At first, their most serious problem appears to be how to get off the planet. It quickly becomes clear that how to stay alive in order to get off the planet is the first and foremost issue. You see, the planet is inhabited by killer creatures that shy away from light, and an eclipse is on the immediate horizon.

The viewer doesn't fully see the creatures throughout most of the film, just their gruesome handiwork. Less is more and the film director capitalizes on this premise to great effect. You do not really see them fully until the very end, and they do not disappoint!

This stylish and gripping film depicts the killer as the anti-hero who ultimately squares off with the creatures from one's worst nightmares. As darkness falls, the survivors become less fearful of the anti-hero, as his unique ability to discern these carnivorous creatures in the darkness can help them survive. It is their fear of these nightmarish creatures that now becomes paramount.

Visually stunning, this film is unusual and clever. It is no wonder that it is a sleeper hit. It has the makings of a cult classic.

Summary: Breathtaking
Review: This IS my favorite movie. The visual effects are absolutely beautiful, and even if you're not into sci-fi the photography will blow you away. Vin Diesel is incredibly hot as this character, and this is a truly frightening scary movie. If you get scared of things in the dark -- you will have nightmares.

I saw it twice in the theatres, and I'm not even a real movie goer. The fact that no one seems to know what this movie is really irritates me because the quality is up there with the best ones ever made. The sound effects are wonderful- top notch stuff, and if you have a sound system you owe it to yourself to get this.

Summary: better than most sci-fi movies
Review: From the previews I thought this was going to be another generic sci-fi movie and had no interest in seeing it. Then I checked out the website and was intrigued by the characters and special effects. I was pleasantly surpriesed and this has become one of my favorite movies. The simple reason is that the characters were not stereotyped into good or bad. There was no forced romance in the movie and it didn't try to tie up loose ends. In fact the end was refreshingly different. The visuals were outstanding and added to the film, instead of forcing the audience to feel something, it let them. Definitely worth watching.

Summary: a lot more then Pitch Black
Review: I am just a kid but beleive me its great. It took me a while to convince my parents to rent it,I am 10 years old,i can see R rated movies but I have a little brother.when I did get it I loved it.And its different, the air after they crash on the planet is wierd to give you a feeling. The aliens look big when you first see them, and when the kid dies right after the first guy, they look like bats they can fly, but the first time they werent flying.it is light at first and the aliens are nocternal. So they live in a cavern. But it turns dark and they come out and a ladie is torn in half and it all starts. The aliens are the coolest of all time, they are not huge like in Alien, but are still big, they have horns that come from the side of the faces have sharp teeth and a huge slanted crest on top.The acting is perfect for the movie.Vin Diesal is a great bad guy,you think hes changed until he tries to leave them.He was in a couple other famous movies that Ive heard did a great job, like Saving Private Ryan. Radha Mitchell is going to be in more movies within a year, same with some otherslike Cole Hauser, and Keith David, and that cut girl that you think is aboy until the middile.I highly recomend this movie. It has it all.this is on my wish list.

Summary: Gripping
Review: I heartily recommend this one to anyone who likes their films to be thoughtful and character-driven. In short, it was very tense and played beautifully on a large amount of moral ambiguity. None of the characters were quite what they seemed, and the resulting conflicts played out in a thoroughly gripping fashion.

I am very fond of stories that build on such ambiguities and explore them in a thoughtful and intelligent manner so I definitely encourage you to check this one out.

Summary: One of the worst Sci-Fi movies ever
Review: Along with Alien Resurrection and Hardware, this movie is one of the worst sci-fi movies I've ever had to endure. I stopped after 15 minutes. The entire movie is shot like a TV commercial. This may be good for effect for a few scenes but for almost the entire movie -give me a break! And what about the accents! The lead actress is Australian (as is a few other characters) but tries very unconvincingly to portray an American. One or the other thanks -very distracting.

Summary: Wasted Opportunity
Review: This movie has a great premise: ship crash lands and survivors must face some very ugly and vicious creatures who come out during an eclipse. I must say I had great expectations about it and was quite disappointed. Most of the actors seem to be just going through the motions, never really getting into the story. The most annoying aspect: the escaped convict-hero who spends most of the movie delivering BS one line comments as if it were high philosophy.

Summary: Not frightening
Review: This film is beautifully filmed, well acted and good for a couple of hours' entertainment. What it is not is frightening, or at least, not as frightening as it tries to be. Watch the original 'Alien' instead if you want to see how Sci-Fi horror should be done.
