Summary: A waste
Review: I wish I could find a single thing to praise about this movie.

Oh. Wait.

It had Haley Joel Osment in it.

Now, go watch "Sixth Sense" again and save your money. This movie isn't worth it.

Summary: A Masterpiece!!!
Review: Combine the genius of the late Stanley Kubrick (probably the best director of all time) and Steven Spielberg and you get the must moving piece of story telling ever. This movie will outlast all the dumb criticism thrown against it. Truly a masterpiece.

Summary: A Must See Movie
Review: For all lovers of Spielberg movies, this is a must see piece of cinematography. The story is a futuristic Pinnochio story, a young robot who wants to become a real boy. Its well worh seeing for the acting alone. Spielberg has done justice and deserves credit for finishing Kubrick's work.

Summary: Not very visonary
Review: There have been many praises for this movie's visuals. I think thevisuals were horrible. It does not contain the same visuallystunning 'dialogue' that BladeRunner had, not even close.

Thespecial effects were poor. So what if they spent millions ofdollars on special effects? It certainly didn't look like it. Andsorry, I don't an FX degree to appreciate how hard it is to dosomething. It's incredibly hard to make perfect steel spheres forball bearings, does that mean I have to ooh and ahh at it?No.

And what about the junk yard scene? It looked like theThunderdome scene from the MadMAx series.

The visuals of this moviewere about as bad/good as Waterworld.

In fact, if you want to seea good movie about robots. Please, go see BladeRunner again. Itdeals with Love, Self-identity, memories, and just a whole lotmore. And does it well.

If you want to see another robot moviethat deals with jealousy, go see Saturn 5. If you want to seesomething campy, go see ShortCircuit If you want to see somethingreally bad, go see this movie.

Summary: Unsettling and unforgettable, BUY IT!
Review: This is an ambitious, visually stunning, thought provoking, ultimately disturbing film. I haven't been so moved by a film is quite a while. Flawed? Yes. Lengthy? Absolutely. But I'll be watching it again!
Spielberg has the edge when it comes to pulling at our heartstrings -- I couldn't help but be reminded of Empire of the Sun. Haley Joel Osment is a REMARKABLE talent and should have had an Oscar nomination for this role!
I was so moved by the themes in this film -- humans searching to fill emotional voids, mechas striving to serve a purpose, the ugliness and irresponsibility of our culture, the beauty of perseverence.
Most of all I was moved by the child's unrelenting desire to be truly loved by his mother. It reminds me of so many children, neglected, abused, even abandoned, who hold out hope for the Blue Fairy.
This is a parable to teach us about humanity and our responsiblity to the life we create.

Summary: Dissappointing Spielberg/Kubrick collaboration.
Review: This film began with the collaboration of Spielberg and Kubrick and the result is less than the sum of the potentials of the two directors.

The film fails to convey the potent acuity and complexity of Kubrick. The moral issues and dilemmas of a robots capacity to love and be loved could have been explored more deeply (as the opening scenes seems to suggest), but instead the film becomes an exercise (not surprisingly) in special effects ...(re: Planet of the Apes-esque post apocalyptic New York & ET/Close Encounters/Abyss aliens effects). Unfortunately the special effects without substance becomes tiring and ultimately boring.

On the otherhand Spielberg's panache and strengths in presenting wildly exciting and humorous entertainment seems to almost have been "held back" by his concern to pay hommage to Kubrick's more serious vision and ideas.

This film bears some similarities to Bicentennial Man released a few years earlier with Robin Williams. It may have been more comic book-ish, but it certainly had more emotional impact and is more memorable than AI.

One thing is certain: Osment's performance is extraordinary.

Summary: problem with D.V.D.
Review: I purchased three separarte copies of this film and on each copy there is a freeze frame of a mans face in the flesh fair sequence that stops the film. Are other consumers finding this problem with their copies of this film? Is there a defect in the D.V.D. transfer or is there something wrong with my player? I purchased the wide screen format.

Summary: Ahead of it's time
Review: A.I. was a wonderfull movie, lots of good fx, with a bold teaching story to it. Great casting! A very moving picture so bring the kleenex to this one, you'll see what I mean. Haley did such a excellant job acting! Speaking of which in some sences you can really see the true emotions overwhelling the actor or actress, watch for real tears starting not fake in some sences which makes this an even better film! Once again Steven Spielberg proves the he is one of hollywoods very best. There were some small holes in this movie but with a huge subject like this it's hard get everything right, still you can understand what the point is. this film will make an impression days after! anyway rent or buy this one, trust me it will be worth it!

Summary: I had to give it 1 star as 0 wasn't an option!
Review: Haley Joel Osment played the lead beautifully and I couldn't fault the CGI special effects. As we've come to expect from a film with Steven Spielberg's name on it, they were state of the art. However I found this film very difficult to watch. I was sitting in the comfort of my own home, but this film made me feel uncomfortable, uneasy and slightly sickened. Had it been a horror film, i'd have been praising it for achieving such a state of mind. Instead i'm here to tell you to avoid it.

What did I hate about it?

1: The first part of the film where 'David' (Haley Joel Osment) joins the tragic family, well this was positively bizarre!
2: The rubbish tip where the deformed robots were scrabbling for spare parts to improve their functionality and appearance. Sad and tragic!
3: The 'flesh circus' where the so called humans torture the unfortunate robots for their pleasure. One sad looking 'Mecha' turns to a robot friend (just before it's his turn) and says "would you mind turning off my pain sensors?" Entertainment?
4: The sentimentality of the ending.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't wait for this film to end. Avoid It!

Summary: I still don't know how I feel about this movie...
Review: we watched it yesterday. It was superbly acted, beautifully made and well directed. Stunning. But it was one of the saddest, most depressing movie I've ever seen. I had a hard time not crying from almost the beginning and then when Monica dumps David in the woods against his emphatic protests, well forget it. I spent most of the movie wishing she had taken him back to the factory to be destroyed. She supposedly thought she was saving him but instead she introduced him to hell. My eight year old son was bawling, especially at the end. It was a great movie but I don't know how I feel about many aspects of it. I think horrified.
