Review: Spielberg's decline as a film maker started with this movie.
It's hard to say what made this movie so bad, aside from the over-blown production design, under-developed script, and slow paced and awful choices of casting for the movie. Spielberg tried to adapt a story that Stanley Kubrick was going to do and make it his own. Only thing is the two styles do not mix and we have only a CGI heavy effects film filled with images that shock us more then they make us wonder.

Summary: I Liked It and Hated It At The Same Time
Review: Even though this was an unfinished Stanley Kubrick project handed down to his friend Steven Spielberg, when you're watching this movie, you can't help but wonder how much better it could have been had Kubrick still been around today to make it. Normally I like Kubrick's stories, but the plot for AI is nothing more than a futuristic Pinocchio. What sense does it make doing yet another version of a childhood fairy tale that has been remade over and over again? Why not take this idea of artificially intelligent robots and do something original with it? In any case, AI chooses to go in the "George Lucas" direction of having incredible special effects that try to wow you and at the same time distract from the weak story. However, I did like certain parts of the movie since it does have a certain charm to it and good acting all around. Any specific problems I had with it were fairly minimal until the last part of the movie, and you'll know the last 20 minutes or so when you see it. It is here that the story just goes off the deep end and Spielberg does pointless twists in the plot that do nothing for the overall movie. If you've seen Minority Report, you are familiar with this.... each time you think the movie will end, along comes another plot twist and it keeps going. These extra twists really end up ruining what could have been a pretty good movie.

Review: This movie is a tender, gentle and deeply moving artistic masterpiece. More art than commerce, more minimalism than muscularlism (action); it is as if it belongs more in a fine arts museum than in the video store...! Spielberg is a genius of his own kind. Kubrick shurely would have approved!

Summary: AI The best movie
Review: I dont know why people hated this movie so much. This was a wonderful movie by Stephen S. They didn't refer to the Blue Fairy too much because that's what the story was about. He wanted to become real and had heard the story so he thought the blue fairy was real. It was a beautiful movie that had me and my friends upset for weeks. This film was not recognised as much as it should have been, the trailers did it no justice and were misleading. I love this movie, you should too. (p.s.) did you know he was not allowed to blink once this entire movie. that's talent.) While I love Stanley Kub. I thought the movie was beatifully made. The aliens that everyone was complaining about at the end were advanced robots. Good for you Stephen, one day people will appreciate this movie.

Summary: Super intriguing, but not pleasant--very plodding
Review: I love good science fiction. For me, a good plot can overcome mediocre acting and special effects. However, wonderful acting and super technology cannot overcome a cumbersome and disturbing plot. The main character, David, was wonderful. I cringed with sadness for him countless times. Gigilo Joe and Teddy Bear were entertaining side kicks. So much of this movie was wrought with hopelessness and sadness, that two and a half hours proved far too long. Additionally, the troubling ending in Manhattan did not mesh well at all with the epilogue in the far future. The latter could have been a short on the sci fi channel. The bottom line is that I loved the characters, but just did not like the story. I cannot deny the talent and art that when into this work, thus the three stars. Nevertheless, I finished the movie glad it was over, and eager not to dwell on the dejected musings of its author.

Review: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WAS THE BEST FILM I SAW FROM STEVEN SPIELBERG SINCE JAWS AND E.T.,IT STARS A KID NAMED DAVID AND HE IS A ROBOT WHO WANTS TO BE REAL AND WANTS HIS MOM TO LOVE HIM.SO WHEN HE MOVES WITH A COUPLE HE FEELS LIKE HE IS THIER REAL SON,TIL THEIR REAL SON ARRIVES BACK,AND TROUBLE STARTS, SO ALL DAVID HAS AS A FRIEND IS A TEDDY BEAR{SUPER TOY} WHO CHEERS DAVID AND STICKS BY HIS SIDE IN THE REAL WORLD ALSO WITH GIGOLO JOE.MIGHT SOUND BORING BUT ONE OF THE BEST FILMS I SEEN.

Summary: Failed attempt at a good premise
Review: A good story should have one or more of these: a good story, moral lesson, or emotional content. Spielberg's AI falls short in all of these. The story could be interesting but is not told well. You feel some sympathy for the character but it is more pity than understanding. If it's showing somewhere on TV for free it's worth a look, but it's very long and doesn't keep one's interest enough to watch it till the end.

Review: The whole thing this movie represents is a fairy tale(Pinocchio), set in the future. It also brings along contemporary art, action, and the relationship between a mother and her son. You can't say this movie was too deep, hard to understand, or boring... First of all, it was made by Steven Spielberg, carrying out the late Stanley Kubrick's favorite work. It was called Artificial Intelligence, and not meant to be the shallow Blade Runner type of movie. If you see this movie, you might just be pleased, as I was at the art and relationship displayed.

Summary: Wow, I should have taken their warnings...
Review: When i went to the rental store, i picked up the movie AI, curious to see how it was, undaunted by an unusually harsh M.A.D magazine spoof of the movie. As I went to the checkout line, someone approached me and told me that I shouldnt waste my rental money. Thinking that i may have different tastes, I still moved forward instead of renting a different movie like Saving Private Ryan(which I hadnt seen at the time). I rented the movie, and when i got home, i opened a case. A note fell out. It said, "Don't even bother watching this film, not only is it confusing and shallow, but it is also depressing." If only I had listened. I popped in the DVD. Then, a blinding sensation came to my senses as I realized i couldnt take a movie like this. I gave up at about the point where they were slaughtering AI systems, at least thats what I THINK they were doing. I partially liked a few graceful moments in the film, so it is not as low as worth of 1 star, but it is barely worth a rental, and I dont suggest it for children, as they will be incredibly saddened by it and will have fits of depression, like my cousin who watched it(he had the problem for a couple days).

Summary: Eerie yet touching movie
Review: This movie was eerie in that David being a machine was so artificial, annoying, and scary in his displays of affection, yet you couldn't help but feel bad for him. I think the movie speaks a load about the human condition in several ways. One question that is asked is what constitutes humanity? Aren't we all machines, if it weren't for our hopes, dreams, and desires? If that's the case then thing that we so often desire called "love," is tied to our sense of self. That is the things that we love define who we are and what we do with our lives. For David it was the search for reciprocated love from his mother. That defined who he is. However, there are still existential questions about his programming and whether the conclusion is a realization of the human condition, despite being a fabrication. It's not for everyone and reminds me of movies such as Blade Runner and Vanilla Sky. However, this movie is worth a watch.
