Summary: Don't listen to the critics!! This is a FUNNY movie!
Review: This is a laugh out loud, very funny movie. We watched it with friends and we all enjoyed it. Owen Wilson is VERY funny in this as well as Eddie Murphy. They have a great chemistry together and it shows on screen. The humor is sometimes silly, sometimes witty and clever, but always enjoyable.

Summary: I Spy Something Bad
Review: The film version of the 60s television series, I Spy, continues the trend of Hollywood's attempt to use nostalgia in order to make money. I have no problem with that in practice at all. As long as it's done right. The first Mission Impossibe flick and the tongue in cheek Brady Bunch films, are examples of T.V. series concepts that translated quite well on the big screen.

I am sorry to say that I can't say same for this movie. One of the things that made the series work so well, was it's ability to mix it up a little, in terms of balancing action, drama, gadgets and just a touch of humor. For the film though, it all seems to be played over the top and for mostly for laughs. Director Betty Thomas lets it be known early on that she isn't exactly sure how she wants it done. The film's plot involves a heavyweight boxer (Eddie Murphy) being recruited for work by the CIA, by one of its top agents (Owen Wilson) for a dangerous mission. It seems that a madman named Gunda (Malcolm McDowell) is up to no good. He has gotten his hands on a bomber plane that can cloak itself. Actress Fammke Jansen fills the obligatory female void in the film. If the film's story isn't bad enough, the humor in the film is not only over done, it's also very unfunny. I wish the script were more in keeping with the show that inspired it. The series starred Robert Culp and Bill Cosby, it had an aura of understated cool to it. Murphy and Wilson waste that component, and instead run around like [dorks]. Not all T.V. revival films need be campy you know

The DVD allows you to watch the film in either the widescreen or fullscreen format. If you decide to take a look at the extras on the disc, do so at your own risk, for they don't offer anything that will hold your interest The commentary features "insight" from Thomas,, editor Peter Teschner, producer Jeno Topping, and writers (who should been fired and replaced) David Ronn and Jay Scherick . There are 4 featurettes: one on Cloak and Camouflage (Special Effects), Gadgets and Gizmos, (Props) Schematics and Blueprints, (Production Design), and The Slugafest (Stunts/boxing scenes). The theatrical traliers top it all off in terms of the extras.

I suppose this film might have worked for me if it were not based on a television show that I am familiar with and that I like. Fans of the original show should skip the DVD all together. All others may get some entertainment from the disc, I however, did not.

Summary: This movie is a real turkey -- avoid it
Review: This movie is about a nerdy but smart spy (Owen Wilson) who teams up with a champion boxer (Eddie Murphy) on a mission to recover a stealth fighter which was stolen by a rich businessman (Malcolm MacDowell). In the meantime they team up with a sexy operative (Famke Janssen). This is a film version of the 60's TV show by the same name.

I had high hopes for this movie when I started watching it. The trailer looked really good but boy was I disappointed!! It was not funny at all, the action sequences were boring, the dialogue was stupid and I kept looking at my watch wondering when this movie would end. Never before has an action-comedy movie been so insipid, unfunny, unsuspenseful and just plain awful!!! The friends who watched it with me had one comment to describe this movie: it is a TURKEY!

That's too bad, since the cast contains many talented actors whom I like to watch: Eddie Murphy, Owen Wilson, Famke Janssen, and Malcolm MacDowell.

Don't waste your money or your time on this movie. It is not worth it. Rent or buy "XXX" instead -- the action sequences, acting, and story line are much superior and you'll have a much better time.

Summary: I Don't Spy
Review: In the land of television shows which have jumped to the big screen, "I Spy" joins the ranks of "The Saint", "Wild Wild West", and "The Avengers" as a dismal failure. Of the other three, this is arguably the worst. If you're a fan of the show, just don't even try to watch this. We didn't even watch the movie through. When we reached our tolerance limit, we fast-forwarded through the rest of the movie: All the action and none of the hackneyed dialog. (Which just about sizes up the target result for too many action movies these days.) Instead of this movie just go watch "XXX" another time.

Summary: Good - Forget the Critics
Review: Short and sweet - the critics lambasted this movie, and it stiffed at the box office. Forget all that - this is a FUNNY movie!! You can't put Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy together and not get funny...it just can't happen.
It ain't great, but it is good and funny and well worth it - I laughed out loud. The dialogue between the two is, at times, priceless.

Summary: Not So good Not So Bad
Review: The comedy between Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson was excellent especially when Eddie Murphy tries to teach Owen how to woo Famke Jansen too funny. But the plot was as fragmented as a jigsaw puzzle. It was too left field. But if want a good laugh and you have nothing else to do this is the movie to get.

Summary: The Real Deal
Review: I Spy is the real deal . Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson are an hilarious team. They keep a smile on your face the whole movie. The serious side and the comedian's point of view collaborate perfectly. Just take my word for it, rent this movie and you'll love it!

Summary: A Classic PratFall! (Right on its' FACE!)
Review: From its' role reversal to its' satirical attempt at following the classic lines of the original T.V. show, "I Spy" misses the mark worse than a novice trainee on the firing line on range at Quantico. As Robin Williams once said of "Popeye", "This one didn't do ANYONE any good!"
As a comeback try for Murphy, or a career boost for the rest of the crew, time, money, and effort would have been best spent elsewhere. This one was almost as big a flop as "Pluto Nash"; as a Died-In-The-Wool "I Spy" Fan, I was so insulted, I almost walked out, even though I'd only paid for the matinee. About the only thing that saved this one is the CGI work.

Summary: "I-Spy" a winner
Review: I-Spy was a great comedy/action movie. Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson are both superb actors and they are a good duo. I-Spy is a funny movie but not the kinda or movie that makes you cry from how stupid it is like the Austin Powers. This movie is more substance more buddy comedy with alot of intrigue. There are a ton of plot twists and things you probaly missed if you only saw it once.I loved I-Spy and I can't believe its stunted box office gross. Please don't be fooled by the box office This movie is a good movie that should not be passed by.

Summary: Eddie Murphy King of Comedy
Review: Eddie Murphy is Kelly Robinson and he's at his best. I am a big Eddie Murphy fan since his days at SNL to Beverly Hills Cop. This is not his best movie but it's his best since distinguished Gentleman. Owen Wilson is a perfect CO-Star for Eddie Murphy the chemistry was terrific. It's a must see movie and if it's out at the $1.50 theatre it's worht seeing over and over again. (cause for regular price you could buy the movie if you go and see it twice.)
